Hector O hEochagain rises to the challenge of becoming a successful racehorse owner, starting with a visit to Smithfield stead fair, where he obviously doesn't have a clue as to what he's doing, so assembles a team of experts to help him out. Successful owner Padraic Maloney helps Hector make the most of his strict budget by pointing him in the direction of well-known trainer Patrick J Flynn and bloodstock agent Eamon Reilly, who both agree to help him find a horse at Newmarket's July sales.
Hector spends the day at Newmarket looking for a purchase. All seems lost until his trainer spots a horse with potential : so Hector invests and starts dreaming of success, only to realise the hard work is just beginning.
Hector comes to terms with the injury to his racehorse while the vet ponders his long-term future.
