    Jamal, a Somali refugee from a local estate and Zac, who lives in a nice house just around the corner are introduced for the first time. After their paths ends up crossing by accident at the local Mini Mart, the two boys attempt to start a friendship. Pressure from friends though make it hard to break down the barriers.

    Following Jamal’s arrest, he has to sort out his problems with Zac at an official hearing. It ends up being a humiliating experience for both of them though and they turn away from the possibility of being friends. Jamal ends up joining a local gang and is scared whether he and his family will even be allowed to stay in the country Zac is concerned about the future of his own family after their house is put up for sale and his dad walks out following an argument with his mother. Sheela comes up with a plan to see if she can help bridge the gap between the two boys.

    Jamal’s application for refugee status ends up being turned down and Sheela and Zac begin a campaign in the effort to sway the decision of the appeal judge. After their campaign sees a serious attack on the Mini Mart from some racist thugs, the community ends up rallying to help Jamal and his family fight to stay in the country.
