Even though they are still showing restraint on the "action" , they DID succeed in ratcheting up the tension and paranoia a notch, now didn't they. This episode shows why it is also necessary to vet the spouses of those you're going to employ in a top secret program. Wifey not only runs her mouth too much, but she just gave her Russkie BFF access to an American AFB. I wonder how she is going to feel when the light bulb finally goes on, and, she realizes how much of a MARK she's been and just how badly she's been suckered?
I don't think the premise of PBB (the show) was ever to "explain the unexplainable", as, just looking at that statement, one can see the apparent contradiction. But, it IS turning out to be an entertaining exploration into the UFO phenomenon, and accompanying hysteria of the the 50's and 60's., from various angles, and, how at least one man went from unabashed skeptic to perhaps being not so sure. Yes, the truth is out there, still, and it will be interesting to see if in the end, this show get's us any closer to it.
And just like that, any sliver of rationale for this being on the "History" Channel vaporized. Yeah, it was entertaining, but it should have a different TV home. Beyond that, this might have been the most unflattering depiction of von Braun that I've seen in fiction yet. The real guy was morally gray, at best, but he's usually whitewashed rather thoroughly in historical fiction -- at least in American stuff. But not here. And really, that exchange between von Braun and General Harding was basically a reenactment of Deep Throat telling McGrath about how you want to keep your friends close, but your enemies closer in a classic early episode of THE X-FILES. And in both cases, it only makes sense because plot.
Just keeps getting better. Next...
