The first 2/3 were good but it's like a joke that goes on for too long and it starts to be less funny.

[7.5/10] “Mortyplicity” does that thing so many superb Rick and Morty episodes do -- pick a wild sci-fi concept and take it to the nth degree. The notion of Rick making a “decoy family” of duplicates in case the shit hits the fan is a fairly standard bit of science fiction for the show.
But spinning that out into nigh-endless reveals that what we thought was the real Smith family is actually just another set of decoys, and that the decoys are making their own decoys, and that the squid-hunters are just more decoys in disguise, and that we’re in an “Asimov cascade” of the various decoys realizing what’s up and attacking one another, until we end up in one giant Smith family clone rumble is a blast and a half. Things get so loony, with constant escalation and added weirdness, that it makes you appreciate the show’s bizarre sensibility.
I also appreciated the touch of a throughline for the various bits here. Summer being the one to question whether they’re fakes is a good runner. And there’s the hint of emotion with Beth pushing Rick to value other lives and other versions of their family, eventually managing to pierce Rick’s “Couldn’t care less” exterior with the truth-bomb that by making all of these clones, he’s shown that he does care.
There’s also just some enjoyable off-the-wall excursions here. Reveals of a wooden puppet version of the Smiths, or muppet versions that are “too cute to kill”, or hideous ones made by a parade of lazier and lazier Ricks who want the skin of fresher Smith families is strange but amusing in that trademark R&M way. I especially got a kick out of the tag here, with wooden puppet Jerry covering him in varnish to get away, only to find himself in a continuing series of ironic/ridiculous misfortunes from his hard-won freedom.
Overall, “Mortyplicity” fits a certain mold for the show, where it takes a basic but wild premise and doubles down on it over and over again. But it’s a formula that works well for Rick and Morty’s vibe, and continues to pay dividends here.
You’re better off not getting attached to any Rick and Morty in this one.

Still not the continuation from last season's finale that I'm looking forwards to, but still great fun and better than last week's, as it's in the same groundwork of Rick's self-obsessed "solution" bringing havoc on his family. This time it's filtered through mind-bending, hilariously repetitive sci-fi concept with some character-based variations to keep it fresh, and grounded by a few bits of emotional edge too (especially Rick and Beth).

The ending was disappointing. They really should have went with the highlander situation, with only one of each surviving at the end. That would have been so much more enjoyable and would have been enjoyable for future episodes, knowing these were the most powerful Rick and Morty's. Instead they went with the character who wants to be hunted which should have stayed as a beginning joke or removed entirely. And then they went the ending of "Well it's just a loop of a loop of a loop" which makes sense but is kinda boring.

Remember when somewhere in season 1 Rick and Morty had to kill another versions of themselves and bury the bodies in their backyard, and later Morty explains it to Summer and how heavy it was? I'm not saying this because I think I need to laughy my ass off every episode or that they need to be emotionally peak, because I don't think the show (or any show) can only move alone these two extremes, it's just interesting to see the contrast of those moments and this throwaway line and how far the show have come since. They were able to make an entire circlejerk (also a bit tiresome) episode on an idea what was once a terrifying moment, and use it to build another character moment, which is how deeply Rick actually cares about his family. The show never ceases to amaze me, and I hope it will keep doing it.
I'm a sucker for taking dumb concepts to the logical extremes, so this episode was right up my alley. Loved seeing all of the family's different designs and thought the pacing was great. Also loved that post credits scene.
