Seinfeld

Season 1

Certainly not very good and doesn't hold up at all really compared to the modern state of television. But it is what it is. Much like the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, this inaugural season to one of the great and influential television shows does not really do it justice at all. And with only a mere five episodes, it's hard to fault creators Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld too much. It isn't exactly a big confidence boost.

But what this first season does is show where Seinfeld started (that's obvious) and in doing so, really helps put into perspective how the show's rise to television and pop culture phenomenon is something extraordinary. Certainly not a good season at all and first time viewers really should not let it be the 'be all and end all' when it comes to watching the show.

I, and seemingly many others, are stunned at how NBC felt the show, based on this first season, was worthy of renewal but thank god it was.

Not great but OK and a good start to a great sitcom. Just watch season 2, I bet you will like it much better than this 1st one...

Solid first season but as I remember the show only gets better as it goes along.

The average rating I gave the episodes in this season was 6.8, and I know I was generous with those ratings.

So, I'll not round up. There's a reason that first seasons of television series have a bad reputation: They very often don't do a show justice. With a first season this short, that only intensifies.

Hopefully later seasons of Seinfeld improved, or I'll be dropping this show down to the "watch when you're half-asleep" list.

NBC brings comedian Jerry Seinfeld’s stand-up comedy stylings to television with a 5-episode first season of his self-titled sitcom Seinfeld. Co-created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, the show follows the antics of a fictional version of Jerry as he and his friends deal with life in New York City. The series uses a unique episode structure that integrates excerpts from Seinfeld’s real stand-up shows; but they don’t always connect with the episode’s story. However, the chemistry between the cast is incredibly good and gives the show a vibrant energy. Despite the limited number of episodes, Season 1 of Seinfeld delivers a lot of laughs and shows the potential to turn into something great.
