Over half a century ago, three women—Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Birute Galdikas— revolutionized primate research. They showed that the great apes were by no means the dumb giants they were long thought to be. Today, women like Julia Badescu, Nadia Mionieza and Ruth Linsky are continuing the work of the pioneers, because great apes are currently more threatened than ever before.
