She had the means to show everyone or at least sow doubt by showing them the thing they said was removed. Did she do either? Nope, just the crazy lady trope. Great cinematography, lazy screenplay (so far). The norm for apple sci-fi. I know the story, it’s awesome! I hope apple doesn’t ruin it. Not off to a good start…
It's not often nowadays I'm really pulled into any new show coming up. This I like very much, very intrigued.
The conversation between Allison and Holston gave me shivers. Where she told him that everything they see is a lie, that it's manipulated, you only see what "They" want you to see. Not so far fetched isn't it ?
I'm always afraid to get my hopes up for new shows because more often then not they fail to deliver on the long run. I hope this is an exception.
This is good. Really good.
Halfway through the first episode and I keep thinking it's low tech Matrix
What an amazing opener. They could have ended the show with Alison collapsing outside and I would have been okay with it. I mean, I’m glad they didn’t but I’m just saying you know it’s good when it draws you in like this, can’t wait to see more.
She said “I’m either gonna wave goodbye and walk away and you’ll know I made the biggest mistake, or I’m gonna CLEAN… if I clean you’ll know it’s safe up here” and she CLEANED!!!! SHE FCKING CLEANED!!!! I can’t get over it.
I feel like this could be like a Snowpiercer or Divergent, but I’m excited!!
The beginning of the story is great. The atmosphere of the silo reminded me of the world of Fallout. cold and soulless The complexity of the story is great, and I think more mysteries will come up in the future episodes.
Good start for the show, hope they could keep up the good performance and tempo in the next episodes.
Breath of fresh air, haven't seen anything this good in a while
I hd no interest until I read reviews now I’m hooked and intrigued
This show was advertised as a Rebecca Ferguson led show. Why TF am I staring at Rashida Jones for the best part of an hour?
Update: Thankful for that ending. I thought we got catfished. This show looks promising, even though the premise is the same old one as Snowpiercer etc., etc. A bunch of people are stuck inside a man-made vessel. Because muh-climate-change made it super scary to go out and live.
MODERATION EDIT: Be respectful.
A very good first episode imo, I'm actually excited for episode 2! Great pacing so far and great acting, enjoying the story so far!
Wow. The quality of this. From the score (music), to the pacing, to how they introduced the concepts of the show with their speeches and lore-building, to the relatability to our real world camera filters and deepfakes "how do we know what's real anymore" questions.
I don't like most shows, but this show... at least this episode of it so far... is awesome.
Why would they bother to record the outside and then alter it while keeping the image of the person going outside instead of just creating a completely fake recording? And why would people bother cleaning if they know/think the recording is being altered anyway?
Like this might get answered later but from the characters' perspective it doesn't make much sense
This seems something like a mix of 'Attack On Titan' and Tsutomo Nihei's 'Blame' Manga or maybe a 'City Of Ember' for adults.
I blame Denis Villeneuve.
I had to check my TV to make sure I didn't have it in super power savings mode. It's obnoxiously dim. And for that matter, so is the little bit of technical writing. "Memory" in a hard drive? That's not how that word is used outside of badly worded smart phone sales displays and 1930s science fiction novels. I bet the writer goes to the "genius bar" to figure out how to add his new E-mail to his MacBook.
It's hard to judge anything else due to the nature of the introduction to a new speculative world. However, I can't help but feel it's stylistic pretentiousness to have it so freaking dim, (and yeah, I can see the "light" reveal coming from a hundred levels down) while also having a distinct lack of bright colors for anything. I'm basically a classic Parisian compared to the average American, in that I do dress primarily in dark colors—mostly black—because it suits my personality and sense of style; but I do understand that people need color in their lives. And if their entire world is dimly lit hallways and concrete stairwells and a depressing view of a toxic wasteland surface, then they're going to want to dress and decorate in bright colors. Is there some law against it? Yeah, in the midbrow sci-fi community where dark, dreary and hopeless equals "srs adult storytelling that you should take so seriously folks".
And while I'm picking world building bones—do these people have any idea how freaking resource intensive keeping cows is? They could have ot have picked a less believable food source—and that's assuming they're not actually supposed to be farming them for meat—in which case the entire silo would be starving and full of cow manure in probably a year. Gentle reminder that cattle farming is what's devastating biodiversity and driving reforestation and species extinction, and global warming.
And is it just me, or does anyone else get icked out every single time a TV or film couple (okay, any couple starts getting excited about mating to reproduce? I mean, carnality is one thing, but talk of making babies? Is it just an Autistic thing? I feel like I'm a different species.
wondering if the picture after wiping is generated by computer; or the gear is not oxygen to keep ppl alive but poison gas?
the best pilot in years
Slap me on the back and call me bass because I’m hooked!
An absolute fantastic series. You can tell from the first episode that the show is going to be good. It’s my kind of science-fiction right there. I’m a little bit behind watching this, so I have still six more to catch up on.
good show, my wife is losing her DIU in this moment
I know nothing of what this show is about. thought it was going to follow the Truman Show/Severance formula . I was surprised when that character died. Now I'm intrigued.
I'm interested to see where this story goes. Yes. a MUST WATCH.
I’m confused why the characters seem to think the sherif dying is proof he was wrong. the entire point was that what you see out the camera is not to be trusted.
I like the premise. The plot is pretty obvious so far, but it’ll be interesting to see how the finer points play out.
