Pretty decent episode that's got a little bit of everything. Ship malfunctions, Romulans, ancient advanced civilizations. What's not to love?

First instance of "tea, Earl Grey, hot," even though he doesn't actually get it.
I've always been a bit confused about that catch phrase, though. Do people actually drink cold Earl Grey tea? It seems redundant to specify.

Oh, huh. Not that it really matters, but I just noticed I watched this on the same day it aired, 35 years later.

I like this episode. It's not exceptional intellectual, clever, complex, funny (ignore Data's shenanigans) or philosophical. But we have a determined and unusually brash Picard, the ship's in real danger, the neutral zone, an exploding Galaxy class starship, an exciting confrontation (becoming almost a cooperation) with the still very mysterious Romulans, archaeology and engineering wizardry. A well-crafted space adventure. One of the better episodes in this still not great season.

It's sad that Deanna still hasn't found her footing. She's either describing emotions that easily could be shown or stating things that are totally evident and inconsequential.

This is one of the early episodes I'd like to had a follow up done. There was a book series puplished that used this story as a basis which I highly enjoyed reading. This was done a lot with plots that weren't followed up in the show itself.

One general thing I never really bothered with are the log entries like the ones done by Captain Varley. The camera is clearly in front of him and it shouldn't be because it makes no sense. The recording device is the desktop computer, so itself and the desk should not be visible. Yeah I know - petty me. But what can I say ?
