Wouldn't destroying Volnek's body with a pair of claymores also destroy the missing control crystal if he has it on him? That was almost a plot hole, but for Mitchell's sudden display of pickpocketing skill.
Once again, we have people who are knocked out of phase with normal reality. Once again, they can pass through other people, doors, and walls (but not floors). Once again, they are unable to pick up or consume food and drink (but can still breathe air).
This trope is a fun one, but damn if it doesn't bring the exact same inconsistencies along for the ride every time!

An excellent A/B episode. Both stories are quite good... and ultimately connected. I very much enjoyed this episode.
