Stargate SG-1: Season 9

9x06 Beachhead

Things finally get turned up to 11, and suddenly we can take the Ori more seriously. This is extremely well put together and escalates magnificently. I'm sure that we all saw the Goa'uld double-cross coming and yet somehow it unfolds in a more shocking way than anticipated.

The supergate is a cool idea, and also DAMN it's good to have Carter back. In the background we have the new Jaffa government being absolute jerks, but thankfully Louis Gossett Jr. makes it all work.

I felt like this had a supremely well written and executed story. Despite having a couple common plot elements, there were a few less common ones thrown in to keep things interesting.

The characters were great. Especially Nerus, mostly due to the wonderful Maury Chaykin. But even the annoying Vala was well written in this episode.

We even get to see how terrifyingly badass the Ori are.

I am very excited by how well done this episode is done. We need more episodes like this. Solid and moving the plot forward.

That mirrored shot of the display during one of Gerak's transmissions to Prometheus, though. :joy_cat:

Aww, I was really liking Vala! Honestly, more than Carter (never was a big fan). I would've preferred that they kept the new line-up and have Vala stay. She was so fun and had good chemistry with Daniel. Their interactions were hilarious.

Superb episode. However, after a recent assessment of her storyline through the series, I noticed just how unnecessarily cruel the SGC and Daniel in particular are to Vala during this one. She is trying her best to actually fit in, and yet at every turn, she is ignored, prodded or outright insulted. And then goes on to save the day. Claudia Black did a hell of a job here. Shame her departure for the rest of the season is what it took to get Carter back full-time.
