Jean Simmons film career began in England in the 1940's with her memorable roles in David Lean's Great Expectations (1946), Powell-Pressburger's Black Narcissus (1947) and Olivier's Hamlet (1948) which she was nominated for an Academy Award. Moving to Hollywood the 1950's and 60's brought notable roles including Guys and Dolls (1955), winning her a Golden Globe, Young Bess (1953), The Robe (1953), Elmer Gantry with Burt Lancaster (1960) and the classic Spartacus (1960) starring Kirk Douglas, and the 1969 film The Happy Ending, for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
