Is it just me or Michael never bailed out but is still very much here, in Dean, just chilling and watching the show? It's just a thought but that'd be great right?
This was another one of those occasional outings that just didn't seem to click. The story was okay, but nothing special. But it was the usual problems when this comes up: the timing seemed off, the chemistry seemed to be missing, things just didn't flow well. As I said, it didn't click. Since the blame for that usually falls on the director, I'll go ahead and blame the director. (I don't know who it was and am too lazy to look it up (since I tend to only look up performances that stand out for positive reasons.))
What a boring, poorly developed episode. As a long time fan, I’m really pissed about this lazy writing and lazy cinematography. Ugh, and no Cas, no Jack and where the hell is Lucifer/Nick?
Obviously something is going on with Dean— Will we ever know? Probably. But then will we even care? Maybe.
I think I’m gonna binge the episodes when they hit mid-season. Until then, I’ll just watch the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix for my supernatural fix.
“We got to stay safe, use the buddy system”
Best advice ever given.
That delivery cracked me up. Tonight’s “how to stay alive” advice is brought to you by Moose.
And yet, they fail at it completely. I loved that line was uttered in the same episode in which four hunters were together and all decided to go in their separate ways. Speaks volumes of that buddy system! However, I do think those hunter check-ins were absolutely amazing.
Although I’d love to know what the hell is going on with poor pumpkin Jack, I do appreciate this episode, especially since it advanced in terms of the obvious “where the hell is Michael?” question, we got more lore, Alt!Bobby’s backstory, and lovely character interactions. And Sam as a chief once again! I actually appreciate that it’s Sam and not Dean the one acting as the leader, especially since S12E22 Who We Are, in which Dean let Sam give that amazing speech.
If there’s one scene that I particularly enjoyed, it was the one in which Mary and Dean stepped up and defended Sam and his leadership when he was even beginning to doubt that himself. I seriously loved it. I particularly enjoy anything with Jim Beaver in it and that’s why I thoroughly enjoyed his scene with Mary at the end. It was so touching hearing Bobby talk like that about how he feels responsible for his son’s death. “I don’t know any other way to live”, poor damn Bobby. Mary trying to comfort him was so cute and tender. And Donna letting complete strangers crash on her cabin is simply lovely. I wish she were in more episodes. (Damn, I miss my wayward girls). I can’t get enough of Sheriff Donna.
The whole Michael-Dean bond is starting to get on my nerves. I can’t come up with a reason why Michael would willingly choose to leave his perfect vessel, unless he has a sort of joker, or that he has put himself back to sleep while mimicking Dean’s behaviour until the others’ trust in him grow and then he just tries to imitate him. However, after this episode I’m even more convinced that Michael’s still there in there, or at least part of him. Remember when Dean mentioned being possessed by Michael felt like being constantly drowning? Maybe Michael is in that state right now.
I wonder what that Djinn could have seen in Dean’s head. His reaction after getting inside his head was of pure terror. And, if I recall correctly, he said something along the lines of “You…you’re”. I wouldn’t dare to say he was gonna say Michael, ‘cause I don’t think it’ll make sense after their conversation, but what if Michael had done something to Dean’s vessel, like, I don’t know, making him immortal or something, so as to make him sure that Dean lives long enough for him to take him as a vessel again. He did have a plan, though, and I still consider the fact that he “left” Dean to get close to Kaia and steal her weapon. Imagine if Dean discovered that Michael had plans for him and that he decided to end his life, only that he couldn’t because Michael didn’t allow him to. I can actually see this happening. That and that somehow, Dean’s got something inside of him acting as a failsafe for Michael to return to Dean’s body.
Speaking of the Djinn. It was so damn good to see one after so many seasons. I loved that short flashback from S01E22 What Is and Should Never Be. I always loved that episode. In fact, I think I’ll rewatch it tonight. I love what they are doing with this new breed of monsters this season. However, killing the Djinn with just a couple of his to the head and some shots…maybe these are the disadvantages of making your own Jefferson Starships.
The whole Mary and Bobby thing is actually happening. Last episode of season 13 and their little stroll got me pretty happy. I love these instances of normality in their lives. However, I have to keep reminding me that this is not our Bobby because otherwise, I’ll go crazy thinking the boys’ mom and who I always considered as their father are about to be a thing. I used to blame the writers for making out two Bobbys so similar to each other. But introducing Bobby’s son (Daniel) and having him confront the boys sort of made both characters different. Who’d thought Bobby had a son! After that “Hello, dad”, I lost it. I loved the parallel and symmetry between both Bobbys in the sense that both had to kill the person they lost and they loved the most. Out Bobby with his wife and Alt!Bobby with his son. Gotta love the symmetry of that.
Two seasons in and I’m still not a fan of Mary’s character. She hasn’t done anything other than making my heart break when she abandoned the boys, confronting them because of her feelings and joining the asshats of the Men of Letters. It’s sort of stupid to bring Mary back just to take her away from the boys only on episode 3 and to get her involved only in romantic relationships. Although if I had to choose, I’d always go with Bobby instead of Ketch. I’m on the verge of starting to think that they only brought her back because they couldn’t bring Jeffrey Dean Morgan back.
Overall, this season is bringing something new to the stage, but at the same time, it is leaving a great number of loose ends. Yeah, Cas is not going to be in each and every episode, but both he and Jack are way to absent. I’d definitely like the writers to explore Jack’s mini depression after losing his powers and to see him use his wits to learn that powers are not the only good thing in him, but that he has other set of assets that can be put to good use. Now, another plotline I loved during the first couple of episodes was Nick’s. I just hope that they explore it in the next episode.
Again, who are these people in the bunker? I mean, give them names, even if it’s just for a couple of them. This is starting to be bother me in the exact same way as it happened in Lost with those other passengers.
Just a bunch of people wandering around doing something, but nameless. I’m guessing the only important character out of all these hunters is Maggie. In fact, she’s the only interesting character out of the ones they have mentioned, not only because she’s been around for a while, but precisely because of the reason why she is, indeed, alive. Let’s not forget that this girl was resurrected by Lucifer himself. I was low-key expecting anyone to mention it or to at least considering that she’s not normal, or that at least, she could have some of Lucifer’s grace inside of her. I don’t see Maggie succeeding as a hunter, to be honest. But I much rather have her just wandering around than having other random hunters popping up in every episode. The same goes with alternate Kaia. She was introduced, well, and so was her weapon, and I’m guessing she’ll not appear again until it becomes really important to get the spear back to fight Michael.
Sam looking for a place for Bobby and Mary to stay at was really weird. I mean, that’s basically going to be their love nest. So, Sam basically arranged Bobby and his mom their love nest. That’s so awkward. The same goes for when Mary started rambling on about how she can’t talk to Bobby the same way as she did with John, and Sam was just awkwardly standing there.
I would’ve seen a bit more of Mary and Dean connecting after Michael “left” him. And they dear to play Dean’s dedication theme. Except that, something really on has been going on with the music cues this season. That sad and lonely guitar from the episode The Scar struck again tonight. That sad music at the end of the episode was so damn weird.
“My father’s dying and there’s a strange man sharpening a machete to presumably kill monsters with in my living room. Thank God for benzos”. That was extremely funny. I love when Dean is casually doing his stuff, waiting for the monster to appear and giving free living advice in the meantime.
Also, when Mary was talking about John, Sam got me laughing more than anyone. “Have you asked? Bobby’s not open like your dad. Like my dad? Okay” Lol. Also, that “The Walking Dead” reference was great. It got me thinking, which actors play Negan and Maggie in the Supernatural version of TWD?
I really liked the old but improved monster, and this ep i general was interesting for me.
But after the fight of the prev. season finale, which was so disappointing I don't get as excited as before, some simple things are even starting to make me mad. In this case, the Mary and Bobby combo. First the fact they are making them a thing, no thank you.
Then their scene with Bobby's "son". They are supposed to be great hunters, why would Mary shout "get away from him" instead of shooting.
Also Bobby was stabbed way too close to the heart with an angel blade, took it out, fell and tackled his son, all this barely bleeding (if at all) and fixed with some bandages. I get suspending belief, but this is too obvious.
And finally, I had a problem with this for a long time, but in this specific case, so we learn Alt Bobby had a completely different life, including a son (which drastically changes lives), but he's exactly the same Bobby as before, physically, emotionally, even same personality and expressions.
pretty uninteresting episode to me tbh. also i am not liking what theyre suggesting w all the bobby and mary scenes . they feel like family idk i cant fathom them being together romantically

One thing I can't tolerate is a melancholy Dean. Pissed off Dean, murderous Dean, self destructive Dean, torturer Dean and Demon Dean are all fine but I won't stand for mopey Dean.
Are they really making mom and Bobby a thing?
