The Cooper family share a small house, and absolutely no DNA. Mum Tess wanted to save as many kids as she could from the sort of childhood she had. So, along with her husband Toby, she now divides just about enough money and nowhere near enough time between their three adopted children Frankie, Alisha and Charlie. In this pilot episode, Tess tries to improve Charlie's popularity by gate-crashing his classmate's 8th birthday party, while back at home, Toby has to deal with Alisha's sudden interest in religion. Written by award-winning writer (and adoptee) Andy Wolton.

Tess and Toby Cooper have adopted three children. Stroppy elder girl Frankie sneaks out at night and sets her parents arguing about her punishment as she sees Toby as a soft touch. Younger daughter Alisha has found God, thanks to a zealously religious biological grandma and, dressed as a nun, wins a theological argument with Toby. Meanwhile Tess, annoyed that little son Charlie never gets invited to other children's parties, gate-crashes a school friends birthday celebration where she exerts a little blackmail to get him accepted. Unfortunately, thanks to the face painting session she brings home the wrong child and needs the family's help to rectify the situation.
