[7.3/10] Hey! This is one of the few episodes of The League I saw before I started actually watching the show on a regular basis, and potentially the one that convinced me to give the whole series a shot! (Woe be to me!) Hopefully, this is a sign that the show takes a serious upturn from here.
But I can see why this episode convinced me that the show was worth a shot! While there’s some distasteful jokes in the sequence, seeing Ruxin struggle to get rid of his box of porn is an amusing bit of zaniness where karma strikes in the right place. Taco’s continual struggle with an eponymous food truck that doesn't serve Mexican food is a solid running gag. And while it’s pretty broad comedy, Kevin and Jenny mistaking spicy wing sauce for an STI is worth a laugh.
The only bit I didn’t really like was Pete and Andre trying to hunt down the sacko. Their “interrogation” is pretty dumb, and their efforts to surreptitously take naked pictures of Sofia are abhorrent. Plus, Ruxin’s comeuppance for his whole “bye week” B.S. is pretty weak.
Still, the humor here is definitely stronger than the show can muster on a regular basis. I don’t know if this is a high water mark for The League (especially after last week’s episode), but it’s at least reassuring that I wasn’t taking crazy pills when I saw this episode and thought it was good enough to convince me to watch more.
Last scene at Taco's Truck is exactly what is wrong with this show - and has been the entire time. Characters are always able to leap and connect the dots, even when it's a huge leap.
