I decided to give this show a look because I was curious about the wide difference between what the critics think and what the audience seems to think. The first 20 minutes or so were ok. I like all of the actors in the show and Aniston appeared to be doing some really good work. That said, I said to my wife "the only thing keeping this show was a music bed behind the dramatic scenes".
And then came the music bed and it went full-on network drama. This is not a compliment.
The main problem with this show is that the story just isn't compelling. It might be one thing if something like this happened mid-series once we got to know the characters. The last third of the show was completely unwatchable. As good as Aniston was at the beginning it was uncomfortable watching her cry in scene after scene.
I don't get what attracted the actors to this show. There have been soooooo many good series on cable these days - couldn't they find a better one? This is especially true of Steve Carell as he has been in some wonderful dramas.
EDIT The show did get better in later episodes as new storylines and conflict developed. That said, it's pretty safe to say that in just about every scene where someone cries or loses their s*** it's a bad scene.

I wanted to like this show, I had high hopes for it, but unfortunately it’s not good. I watched the first 3 episodes and I don’t feel the need to keep watching. The Morning Show is waaay too dramatic for a nothing plot. We are supposed to feel tension but everything happens just because. It feels so forced. And the music is so overwrought, trying to manipulate the viewer into thinking the situation is super serious, as if it’s the end of the world.
They threw a lot of money at the names, and not enough at the creative process. The writers just looked in the social networks what topics are hot right now. And they put them all in - racism, sexism, environmentalism, Me Too. The show really doesn’t break any new ground and it hasn’t got anything new to say. It's certainly not making the profound points it thinks it’s making.
The portrayal of journalists shouting about the sanctity of journalism is annoying. The show is set in a fairy-tale world of journalistic integrity - journalists are soldiers in the fight with coldhearted network executives for The Truth, they could and would never be capable of biased. And every time a journalist gets upset, they scream, “I AM A JOURNALIST”.
The Morning Show had a lot of potential but the script is atrocious, the overacting and constant yelling is unbearable and it’s just too damn dramatic. I didn’t understand why everyone was so serious.
