"We're going to tell everything we do or did for the viewer, but in the most unnatural way"
"We're going to put a startled-looking girl as star but she's a fearless hero"
"That guy is poor but he has a horse because... plot?"
"We're MTV, let's put loud music everywhere, all the time"
"They have pointy ears, but we're gonna tell the word Elves 200000x per minute just to make sure even the dumbest person gets it"
"Let's put weird made-up words for everything, like they did in Hunger Games and Maze Runner"
"We're going to put haze here, because it's dangerous"
"I scream, because I'm a vilain"
God those were the most annoying 45 minutes of my life. Imagine Pretty Little Liars, but with even more unexplainable shit and elves.
The anorexic girl, the bad acting skills of mostly everyone, the cheap special effects, stereotypic dialogs... it's all there.
I feel I'm being taken for an idiot by that show. Jeez. I'll try to last at least 2 episodes before deciding, but... urh
Watched 4 episodes... Its basically amateur fan-fic with terrible acting , repeatable script with blood and great effects... Yeah it looks good, but when there are "actors" around you are almost forced to quit watching, if you are casual you will enyoj it... Teen stars from 10+ years old movies for kids. Even Manu Bennet is terrible here.
Only reason for watching is Ivana Baquero :D They show blood and violence, but sadlydontexpect nudity.
Clichéd and undeveloped story and world. Beautiful actors and sets but everything feels flat. Convenient things happen which make story hard to engage with. Also nearly all the ethnic minorities are bad or get killed which makes the world dull and feels like white men were in charge of the whole thing yawn.

Sexuality is well represented though which is unsurprising as it was made for horny mtv teens
MY THOUGHTS ON THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES:
-WARNING: Spoilers Below-
I am so shocked I actually finished this show, I am actually shocked with myself that I managed to muster up the courage to sit through this. Not everything about this show was bad but not everything was good, actually very little was good. Season 1 started off absolutely beautiful, the locations, the CGI, the outfits, the acting, the directing and the script was all so beautiful but for some strange reason it didn't last.
Halfway through season 1 everything started to crumble, the plot became miserable and the actors all lost their way. Everything seemed different and it was slowly becoming unwatchable. By the end of season one I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch season two if it ever came out. After a while season 2 was released and well... That changed everything.
At the moment of the second seasons release the show was sitting at a 5/10 in my opinion, season 2 changed that and unfortunately changed it for the worse, Season two destroyed everything somewhat good about the show and turned it into an absolute mess. There was absolutely NOTHING good about the show, I got halfway through season 2 and gave up, I couldn't do it anymore. There are SO many better shows out there, especially fantasy shows, why should I sit here and struggle through this?
A few months past and I went through my hidden shows and saw this and realised I only had a few episodes remaining. I thought to myself "Why did I stop watching this? I might as well finish it seeing as I'm looking for something to watch." I am so disappointed in myself for thinking that. I forced myself to finish the last half of season 2 and my god I was so miserable doing it. It became even worse.
Overall this show was yet another show that started off alright and then got ruined by stupid decisions and poor writing. It had so much potential but potential can only get you so far. I don't recommend anyone watches this unless you're big on Fantasy shows but even then... Good luck.
Overall rating: 2/10
is it finished or ended? these days series get canceled way to often and i don't feel like starting a series wich i know will stop without having a descend ending. i need closure :D
After 4 episodes: The visuals are unexpectedly beautiful but it suffers quite a lot from typical teen drama bs. But the fantasy world seemes interesting enough for me to keep watching.
wrong year.... it's 2016 not 1969.
Wasn't expecting to last through the first episode of this show after reading the reviews on Metacritic. To my surprise I watched episode 1 all the way through and would’ve continued on if I could. The elf that talked like a Southern California valley-boy at the start was slightly annoying until he couldn't talk any more ;-) Odd choice of phraseology in parts, but overall pretty good.
As soon as episode 5 rolls around, it digresses into something you'd expect from MTV or CW. By the 5th episode, it reaches the point where you could watch the remaining episodes out of order and it wouldn’t really matter.
It’s similar in tone, production value, and content to the British series Merlin — if you enjoyed that one in it’s entirety, welcome to heaven. Think Game of Thrones for kindergarteners ;-)
My thoughts based on 7 episodes watched:
Scenes along with writing are often hit or miss. Sometimes they hit the spot, sometimes are just plain bad and doesn't make no sense at all when you think about it. Also It seems like they can't really nail serious talks down, they always end short and don't really prove the point.
Most of actors seem solid, If you take out that teen crap.
Other than that, series is progressing at decent speed, lots of stuff happening all the time, with very decent effects. This alone is probably the reason why the series is so highly rated.
I find the show pretty good so far, although I am not impressed with the acting AT ALL. Hopefully, as the show goes on, the actors will develop a better feel/understanding for their characters.
Mixed feelings about this. The show started out good but got worse towards the end. Bit too much teen drama, some parts were just bad acting and the story line didn't live up to it's potential if you ask me.
Anyway, it was worth my time, but nothing special.
Just went through and correct all the mistakes on TMDB, TVDB and Wikipedia so it should update soon.
A premise which we all know, set hundreds or thousands of years after modern humanity's downfall. New life inhabits the land be it human or other species. Surprisingly, it works somehow, as a new program. Although, this show is based on the Shannara book series which was an originator of that idea, so it gets some leeway as well. I am not familiar with the content of the books so I didn't compare between the two mediums while watching.
Overview:
Season One: 4/10
I watched the first season before the second started airing to be ready and caught up. But, while binging it I found myself stopping a fair bit and having a hard time getting through it. The story built it up to being more grander than it became, and lost some of the wonders it tried to bestow. I also didn't quite like the main character Wil much. He seemed to distract from the amazing world built around him. Pulling the audience to watch him over other elements. The supporting cast was I think good and in some parts great. Allanon can be over the top sometimes but he really grew on me. Some episodes were lacking in real drive and felt to be more of a filler. The colours used in season one were also pretty bland, except for the outside establishing shots. These were gorgeous, and make the rest of the season look out of place. It was an okay start to a series that I was happy to see the world be explored deeper.
Season Two: 6/10
The second season, for me, was a much better attempt at allowing for a grand adventure through the beautiful fantasy setting it had shown us beforehand. Seeing the magic being used naturally but hesitantly is a great thing to watch. As it builds for an exciting or frightening show once it happens. This time around the show doesn't solely focus on Wil but on others such as Eretria and newcomer Mareth. So Wil was able to build his character more without having to put on a show every five minutes. He felt much more genuine here and I really wanted him to succeed in his quest when watching. But sadly, even though Allanon grew a, I have to say, lovely relationship with Mareth by the end. His presence throughout the rest of this season seemed forced. Him mentoring Wil in season one made him become more mature and reliable for those around him. So having Allanon show Wil more was unneeded at certain times, and him not owning up to Mareth sooner cost the season a repetition of the mentoring. Magic doesn't teach itself though so I was okay with some critical teachings between the two. The villains of this season are nothing special and bring the tone down when on screen. That is except for Bandon, who manages to give off a haunting feeling when he lurks in a mysterious location.
Even able to have a great scene purely with him alone as one of the main cast with a few supporting. Use of colour in this was not as saturated, but more contrasted to give a gloomy and dark effect, giving the illusion that a storm is approaching and works really well.
So, all in all, I'm looking forward to a third season if they decide to do so. But I'd also be happy if they kept it where they left it. It gives off a mix for me as I don't know where it may go. That may be a good thing or a bad thing. But I'm glad I gave it a shot.
I stumbled upon this gem during “down the rabbit hole” search in sci-fi.
This is the first review I felt compelled to make in years. There is no doubt the storyline of this series is simply brilliant (I want to read the books now).
A top note of “Lord of the Rings/Hobbit” influence with an undertone of “Legend of the Seeker” and a dash of “Merlin”…
This TV series is MOVIE quality, the cinematography and locations are stunning, the special effects are dead on, and the excellence in the acting is just beyond distinction.
I like the 100, not this one... It's boring, foreseeable, the dialogue are too simple... Quiet silly... IMAO... I can save something: a wonderful set! A teenager show...
after ep 3: i have to agree with hwlr, the show is ok-ish, but it would be really good if they would stop the teen drama bs. The show "The 100" suffered from the same problem, which made me actually drop it. Will see how long it will be able to keep me engaged
amberle acting is so bad in these serie, i cant
This show had so much potential and they are realizing it now on the final few episodes! Only if they stopped focusing on teen drama before, this show probably could've been another Walking Dead!
absolutely loved the season 1 !!!! the music, the storyline, the fantasy world, the visual effects the actors & actresses were so intriguing !!!!! But when Eretria sacrificed herself and became a tree , I just lost my interest in watching it so I didn't continue the second season. The show was still great nonetheless ^^
All along enjoyed both the story and the girls, wishing it was a HBO production. Only regrets it got canceled as a third season was obviously in the scheme. Worth it anyway, it still has an ending.
I think someone thought, let's see how many clichês and bad actors can we shove in 40 minutes. From that day forward, that record will never be broken again.
Awesome show which I recently discovered on Netflix UK. It is a well paced fantasy series with a good range of characters. The special effects are extremely good. Shame the show only lasted two seasons, but nothing is really left over once it closes. There is a plot idea at the very end for a potential third season but it does not ruin the main story.
Sorry to see this show go. The books were great!
Lord of the Rings meets MTV.
Don't know the books so I just judge the show. It looks all right, not great, just allright. Less teenage and more real drama would have helped a lot. It's cleary aimed at younger audiences. And you can fill a large room with all the chlichés used. I cannot connect with either characters or story. After four episodes I am already loosing interest. I understand why this didn't last long.
well... fan of this serie
fan of the girls present on this serie
dont know where did the producer found them, but let's say... each of the girls here are pretty!
now, i'm not watching this only because of this pretty girls... but also because the history its good enought for me to waste 40m per episode
Season 2, just finished the 10 episode and it was quite nice, pacced enought with not so many slow downs.
I feel on this season a little bit of game of thrones because of the deads!
I'll give a 8,5 in 10
Some points they could get better, not sure if its the money too short
Fan or "eretria" and "mareth" :P
I like the cast & the world – the setting is simply A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!!
Can't say the same about the way the show handles character interactions tho.
But, hey! I'm a 20' something... I think I can survive drama BS. (I secretly like it... don't tell anyone!)
I discovered this series three days ago and I am already finishing it. Hope it would last at least 10 seasons. The special effects are insane. I love the characters and the plot is good.
A fantasy world where the people aren't fat.
Good series, takes a little to get goin, needs series 2 to be done but I bet they don't make it
ok—so i bookmarked this show awhile back and now i finally got around to watching it. seems mtv has pulled out all the stops and pumped a load of cash into this show. the cgi is really good and i would say it's big screen quality. the storyline is good, but it's a bit to teenage based. it would have been nice if they would have made it not so age group specific. there seems also to be some logic problems for me with the characters. one example is that the show starts with a heroine that seems to be bad as but later, hmmm... shouldn't she always be bad ass? anyway i love adventure fantasy films and this one has me hooked and i think the'll iron out the flaws over time.
I loved it. Idgaf what other people think
It's a great show to watch, though I think it appeals more to a teeny bopper generation. The visuals are great but it lacks that depth of fantasy that one looks for.
This show was no worst then The 100 or Twilight or any other show out there in fact I rate it an 8 just because i can. #ShiftvW8
Was ok but no great
The Fantasy world is cool and it's done pretty well but the teen drama it's trash guys.
Started off as having great potential. Persevered with it but didn't really live up to expectations. It's a good show and its great that it's been left open to continue. Hope season 2 gives a bit more.
Mixed feelings about this. The show started out good but got worse towards the end. Bit too much teen drama, some parts were just bad acting and the story line didn't live up too it's potential if you ask me.
Anyway, it was worth my time, but nothing special.
Great show so far...

Damn. Don't know whether I should jump on this bandwagon. The genre and the fantasy world with all kinds of creatures seem very appealing to me, but the trailers weren't very inspiring, and I can already see a boring love triangle and annoying teen problems, even without starting the show. I don't think it's shit, I just feel it's something that isn't meant for me.
I like it so far! And will recommend!
I find the show pretty good so far, although I am not impressed with the acting AT ALL. Hopefully, as the show goes on, the actors will develop a better feel/understanding for their characters.
It is hard for me to admit, but this series is my guilty pleasure...darn
Love the show, no disappointments so far.
It's good as another teen drama but thats about it.
Looks good and the cast is awesome!
This is a great show so far. CGI is on point
absolutely ausome !!!! Am hooked can't wait for the next episode .love epic battles with great scenery .special effects : )
Great material to work with but have not seen MTV produce anything of quality other than the recent Scream Queens which plays on the fact that it is over the top corny.
MTV better not mess this up!

It's about what you'd expect a teenage fantasy drama on MTV to be like! Lots of teenage rubbish - poorly developed love triangles and all that, so avoid if you can't stand that stuff! Characters are pretty tropey and 2-dimensional with little development, although the story itself is OK.
Visual effects are probably the main reason to watch - they're mostly stunning, although do occasionally fall short.
Title sequence is something else though... could watch that all day!
