For starters, there were some pretty serious pacing and editing problems with this one. Both stories had somewhat awkward rhythms to them, and the cuts back and forth between them were off a bit as well. Dr. Venture having a mid-life crisis and getting turned into a caterpillar after his weak pickup attempts was...weird? It was amusing that they directly called out Kafka, and Monarch's jealousy was amusing, but the story didn't really go anywhere besides being kind of bizarre. The only real comedy came from Dr. Venture's pathetic bragging about sleeping with the disguised Dr. Girlfriend, and his blithely ignoring the way his "hickey" was taking over his face.
Brock's story was somewhat off as well. The whole "have to renew my agent license" bit is a solid premise for the story, but there just weren't a lot of laughs in the execution. It was amusing when he was studying, and both Hank and Dr. Venture are talking to him at the same time about things that are clearly of no use to him, and his training montage with the boys had a few funny moments, but overall it was kind of half-baked.
