Little green insects instead of little green men, save the forests!

Around the 11:30 mark (commercial free version) when they first cut open the cocoon and find a corpse it has a face, 10 seconds later it looks nowhere near the same, no face (skeletal). Bad consistency. Also at 18:05 Steve touches the huge Douglas Fir and you notice that it sinks in briefly. Lol While the generator was still running I kept wondering why they weren't smart enough between the three of them to think to prepareto make their own light, make some damn torches people!

Nice surprise to see Jason Beghe (Chicago P.D) when he was younger in this episode.

The horror was done well in this episode. The only complaint I have is WHY DIDN'T STEVE TRY THE OTHER DOOR?!

I didn't know Jason Beghe was in this episode! Shame about the guy in brownface, though, kinda ruined everything.

After making a big deal about the bullet hole in the truck's windshield, how did the insects get in? Yep, through the air vents. Through the filters. Right, sure.

I think the only "rule" about when the bugs can and cannot swarm is "They swarm when it's dramatically convenient." Explains why they get Spinney while he's standing directly in the jeep's headlight beams…

Titus Welliver! Pretty cool to watch these episodes 30 years later and realize some of these one-off characters have become kind-of household names. Like Titus and Mark Sheppard. And Mitch Pileggi ofc.

So far, The X Files has been doing a way better job at being a thriller than a mystery.

Another what if play on real world concerns and revisiting of older yarns, the ideas presented in this episode succeed in elevating it, despite the low production values, poor VFX and uneven writing. Despite being left in the dark on numerous fronts, which may bug some, this is one of the better episodes of the season and there's enough here to be satisfying - unlike a number of previous episodes.

Scully, right after this episode: I will choose our next adventure

Ancient bugs released in the Washington forest when large old trees were cut down come out at night to drain the life from loggers by cocooning them. Mulder and Scully end up being attacked by the bugs and are cocooned but found with enough time to revive them. This one has an ominous ending with a doctor in a hazmat suit reassuring Mulder that the U.S. Government will not fail in containing or destroying the bugs before they can invade populated areas.

Secondary characters in this episode: None

As I hate bugs, this one scared me a lot. For me, one of the best episodes from this first season.
