Well, by the end of this two-parter, all of the proof gathered by Scully and Mulder is given to the Cigarette-Smoking Man who drops it in the trash. There's a lot of plot holes and story beats left behind in this one. It will be interesting to keep an eye open for how the black oil plays a part in the conspiracy going forward.
