Copper chloride acts as a catalyst decomposing the hydrogen peroxide. May also form copper oxychloride copper I oxide, and copper I chloride

Hydrogen peroxide acts as a catalyst oxidizing the copper. This is a very exothermic reaction and it can easily boil over if you don't keep an eye on it.

In this video we make electric matches to safely detonate our experiments. You should aim for a 95-5% ratio of your propellent to nitrocellulose (pingpong balls). a pingpong ball weighs 2g, so use about 50g of powder. We used half that and it works great. The steel wool is sensitive enough to glow red hot through 100ft of wire with a battery.

We made a cannon that fires water bottles. Why you ask? Why not!?! Using 1-2 ounces of blackpowder, and 10-16oz of water. If we filled the bottles up all the way they exploded :/

This is our first attempt at exploding arrows, we probably used a half ounce of black powder in the arrow itself. It was a carbon arrow. We removed the tip and replaced it with a large shotgun primer. I saw these first in the anarchists cookbook about 15 years ago. The bang was rather satisfying.. probably doing it again soon!

This cannon was pretty extreme. It shot a golf ball at speeds approaching the speed of sound and has some SERIOUS power. We typically used around 1 ounce of powder charge, enough to propel the ball clear through a bucket, and into the dirt. Electrical ignition was not bothered with, used long fuses instead. Easy DIY chemistry project, great for science fairs because its a great demonstration! This is great for the chemistry beginner. I used 150ml of a 10% ammonia solution and 50ml of 30% HCl After they reacted, i boiled it down, and dried it in the oven. It tastes very salty/tart!

I made a mistake. Schweizer's reagent is produced by copper hydroxide, then a excess of ammonia. not just coppersulfate with ammonia, thats just Tetramminecopper(II) sulfate. oops :)

Ive been pouring 7 different metals into a 24" tall aquarium over the weekend, and the results have been super cool! I poured metals with different melting points to see if they had any different effects when they came in contact with water. From Pewter (350f/170c) all the way to Thermite (4000f/2204c). Im going to show you how to make rockets using CO2 cartridges. These are used for Airsoft, Paintball, and BB guns. They contain high pressure Carbon Dioxide gas behind a thin metal disc. I thought it would be fun to film propane balloons exploding in slow motion, and I tried popping them a bunch of different ways. I took some user suggestions like flying a drone with a sparkler attached into a balloon, and filling a balloon with a explosive mixture of propane and oxygen and detonating it underwater. I was on Reddit yesterday, and I saw a cool GIF on r/woahdude. It looked so cool I had to do it. Also people were debating on how fast the ball was really spinning, and I had to find out for myself so I grabbed my camera that can shoot up to 1000fps. The original poster estimated the speed at 10,000 rpm, but the ball was really spinning 30,000 rpm in my experiments!

What happens when you fill a ping pong ball with extremely flammable propane, then light it on fire? Does it spin really fast, or make a cool noise, or explode? The answer is yes! You have probably heard of steel wool before. You can burn it and swing it around to create amazing sparks and effects. I thought it would be fun to attach steel wool to a drone and fly it around a beach at night. It turned our really cool. I also attached sparklers to the drone and flew it around. Sparklers last way longer than steel wool, and im sure everybody on the beach was impressed as It flew down the shore.

The inside of a pumpkin has a pretty interesting geometry. I had the idea to cast the inside to see what it looks like, but the inside of the pumpkin is very fragile and the 1000 degree aluminum pretty much destroys it as soon as it comes in contact with the soft flesh. I thought freezing the pumpkin would provide more structural support, so I froze the pumpkin from the inside out with liquid nitrogen. Today I make a REAL hoverboard out of dry ice! It doesn't lift you high into the air like back to the future, but it perfectly emulates the feeling! Its just a wooden board with a rim around the edge to hole 3 blocks of dry-ice in place. As the dry ice sublimates, the pressure from the expanding gas is enough greatly reduce surface friction and you can glide on any smooth surface. Greg, one of the pack leaders, designed a GPS receiver that transmits data over amateur radio frequencies. I was planning on just making a silly 'check this out' video, but people on my facebook page got me thinking! Its still a silly video, but now contains a pinch of science.. kinda ;) looks dangerous, but its not. Nothing in the vicinity is particularly flammable, and i have tall ceilings. The high voltage transformer is more dangerous! I don't think the color has anything to do with what goes off first like some people thought, they all blow up too quickly for that to come into play.

Ok thats it, Fidget Spinner trend is over, cause this is the best one ever!! ;) I built a custom fidget spinner out of 1/4in aluminum plate and strapped 3 E sized rocket engines. Really, I just wanted to do this. I saw Stephens video and needed answers. Plus, this gave me an excuse to buy a Plasma Cutter ive been eyeballing for yearssss. (dont tell sandra I could have made this with a jigsaw..) The spinner has a 6 inch radius, so it travels ~37 inches to make a full circle. Its spinning 88

This is what happens when you ignore the warnings on a Lithium (LiPo) Battery. First I tried Disassembling the battery to learn about it. Then I tried shocking the battery with a tesla coil. Surprisingly that did not work, so I connected it to a car battery to overcharge it and it worked great. Of course, by working great i mean it caught on fire.
