Time Bandits 2024

Steaming hot pile of dung. The kid acting is okay, but the dialogues are not funny. The first two episodes didn't cause me to even smile, not alone laugh or be entertained. All I did was cringe. YMMV.

I loved the classic movie of the Time Bandits and was looking forward to this 2024 series. However, It's just not going down well for me atm, Dialogue feels forced, acting is like its some pantomime stage play and I'm just not finding any of the punchlines funny at all, though the kid can be sarcastically funny at times.

I'll give it another few episodes and if it doesn't pick up, I'm out!

Well I was interested until I saw Taika Waititi's name on it...
Also did he seriously cast himself as God?...

If it's up to Taika Waititi's normal standard it'll be as funny as.... Nvm, rules say to be respectful

If Nickelodeon and syfy had a colab and hire Disneys fx team.... Fun for kids and family.

It's pretty good !
(I didn't see the original)

Looks funny but pretty much is every complaint the new Snow White had. Where they think it’s cool to cut out short stature people. As long as there’s diversity.

Time Bandits (2024) - :heart:x7

Ignore the nay-sayers here.
This is silly, Monty Python-esque, goofy, with lots of dad jokes and a time-traveling Phoebe Buffay (Friends 1994) - what more could you want?

I kind of feel bad for the Time Bandits - every one of their little capers fails miserably, but in a wonderful Phoebe Buffay style.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

Zero expectations coming into this, but despite of its family-oriented appearance, its comedy works in levels that cater to a more refined palate. Not to talk about the VFX, on par to any Dragon or Ring show these days. Very, very surprised.

I have a weak spot for this kind of show. It's sometimes fun to watch something engaging but not too demanding. It's fun, reminds me of 'The Librarians'. Just lower your expectations and enjoy.

1/10 this is just terrible, I got to the end of episode 3 and couldn’t stand anymore…..
Nothing funny about this at all and the delivery/acting is below that of a local amateur theatre group

Wow this show is TERRIBLE! Obviously the movie is classic and excellent front to back (quite humorous seeing comments from those who haven't seen the movie....like, seriously?), but this is bad, bad, bad. Let this be the final straw for those still harboring a belief that Lisa Kudrow can act. She can't. She's like Lucy was....good for one show, and then decades of making the viewing public wonder why they ever thought she was funny. The kid is very good, like very, very good, and he should be pissed that he was surrounded by talent much older and FAR worse. He'll have plenty of time to be pissed because this will be cancelled quickly. It sucks on ice.

As an avid hater of all things apple tv (and apple in general - sorry, I can think for myself, but you do the 1-size fits all bs), but someone who has gone into every show with an open mind, I am digging this show after the first 2 episodes. I really hope this continues, and I am sure I will add an edit to this later on with my thoughts post-season 1, but Lisa Kudrow, Jemaine Clement, and Taika Waititi are the primary reasons I was wiling to see how much Apple defiles a treasured childhood movie.

Edit: This is a new story in the universe, just keep that in mind.

"Time Bandits" on Apple TV+ starts strong, blending nostalgic nods with fresh twists that have me eagerly anticipating the next episodes. The series introduces new elements while paying homage to the '80s classic, promising an engaging journey through time filled with quirky humour and heartwarming moments.

The story centres on a likeable kid navigating a world where his tech-obsessed parents and embarrassed sister sharply contrast with his nerdy interests in history. Joining a crew of eccentric time bandits, he embarks on a whimsical adventure that mixes slapstick comedy with clever storytelling.

Lisa Kudrow surprises with a role perfectly suited to her comedic strengths, and Jemaine Clement delivers his usual hilarity as the villain. Despite occasional pacing issues that stretch the storyline, the series offers enjoyable and family-friendly escapades. Whether you're a fantasy fan or new to the genre, "Time Bandits" promises laughs, whimsy, and an entertaining ride through history that leaves you wanting more.

Why, Taika? Why?

It's too childish to enjoy. Lisa Kudrow was terrible in her role. The show seemed to be written by a 9 year old and approved by AI.

SKIP IT!

The first two episodes were fantastic but after that it became boring. I had to force myself to watch episode six and became distracted by my phone while watching it.

Possibly the worst thing I've watched this year. Uninspired story and writing, phone-it-in acting and off the shelf costumes and effects. Basically another nostalgia cash grab with a Taika Waititi bumper sticker slapped on the fender.

It tough to follow a classic movie. If you go into it with out the expectation it will be like the movie it stands pretty well on its own.
It hard to find good fantasy on TV. I think I'm going to like it.
