Tottering Towers is the stately home of the 43rd Duke of Tottering. It will be found (as any good guide-book won't tell you) in the village of Tottering Sideways near Sumweir-on-Thames The Duke, though a brilliant inventor of such things as fishing bicycles and talking suits of armour, cannot invent a way to keep himself out of debt. Then two teenagers, the Duke's American cousin, Daffy, and Dick, his housekeeper's nephew, arrive at the Towers. They plan to help the old boy ... with hilarious results.
Dick and Daffy prepare plans for bringing the crowds to Tottering Towers but the Duke is more interested in a stair with a nasty case of termites. Meanwhile Gabbige, the butler, serves visitors with a kick to it, and Daffy begins to think she is seeing things, but at least she doesn't lose her head, which is more than can be said for the Tottering Towers 'ghost'!
Daffy has seen the Tottering ghost, Marmaduke, but the Duke is strangely unperturbed. However, he manages to do some useful detective work with the help of his latest invention -- a fishing bicycle.
The Duke gives the ghost a headache, P.C. Poppy decides to "sock it to them," and Mrs. Pouncer thinks she's seeing things. Meanwhile Benny, Mis Twitty and Daffy let things slide...

A pop festival at Tottering Towers? Not on your coronet! But bed and breakfast at His Grace's — that could be a winner! A ducal weekend is the latest fund-raising scheme designed to save the towers from tottering. More staff are needed so enter Mum—the "French" parlourmaid and "niece" of Gabbige. Then the first visitors arrive. But just who are the couple from Kansas City?
The Duke's paying guests are not quite what they appear to be. The crooks are still in search of the Towers' secret.
The Duke decides that military methods are needed to counter the threat to hit rhubarb.
After a night which ends with the Duke and hit "guards" at last getting to grips with their unwanted "guests," the Duke invents a new machine to protect his rhubarb crop. Meanwhile, the crooks, under Mr. Bag (Hairy O'Hara), plan their next move to discover the secret of Tottering Towers.
The Duke receives a visit from a Chinese detective, and Dick and Daffy find things going like clockwork. Meanwhile, Benny leads the villains along the tortuous route to the "cellar in the attic.”
The secret of the Towers is at last uncovered.
