Best interpretation of a chicken I have ever seen in a TV show
The reason why it's a new series is pretty simple. When this season fails they can start Doctor Who 2005 back up and pretend this season never happened.
They completely nailed the look, feel and vibe of the games and it's fucking amazing.
Turning a complex novel like "The Sympathizer" into a TV show might not have been an easy task, but HBO has managed to pull it off. The result? A thrilling series that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Sticking closely to the novel's plot, the show follows the tale of the Captain, a North Vietnamese spy undercover in the 1970s, tasked with undermining the efforts of his South Vietnamese boss and CIA handler. Sent to America, he grapples with his role in a war that many believe to be over while trying to maintain his loyalty. Like the book, the show employs a digressive narrative style, making it consistently entertaining and unpredictable.
Despite the complexity of the plot, the show doesn't overwhelm its viewers, thanks to the rigorous scripts and direction. Park and McKellar effectively communicate layers of information visually, using techniques like cutaways and fast-forwards. Dark humour lightens the load, blending with moments of horror and tragedy seamlessly. Robert Downey Jr.'s multiple roles add to the surreal atmosphere, emphasizing the Captain’s struggle with identity.
"The Sympathizer" stands out as a unique TV show with its 1970s Hollywood-inspired details and experimental editing. Downey Jr.'s performances, while glorious, serve to enhance the show’s oddball approach and highlight the slippery nature of identity. Like a mesmerizing magic act, it pulls off seemingly impossible tricks, keeping viewers engaged and surprised at every turn. The cast, led by Hoa Xuande and featuring Robert Downey Jr. in multiple roles, delivers standout performances. Downey Jr.'s versatility adds an extra layer of intrigue to the already gripping story.
In my opinion, "The Sympathizer" is a must-watch; its unique style and compelling characters make for a captivating experience that has me eagerly anticipating the next episode.
7 hours of Guy Ritchie and a bunch of crazy british gangsters. What more could you want?
Into the 4th episode and iv seen more action in my local pub on a sat night
Great show with adorable stop-motion animation and vibrant colors!
I know just how labor-intensive the stop-motion medium is, so I understand we couldn’t get a full season of 8-12 half hour episodes but nevertheless I was so ready to keep going once this show ended. Hopefully enough people watch this so they can greenlight a longer second season.
As of now, the show comes off as a cute series of vignettes with nice anti-corporate messaging about finding purpose in friends and the outside world instead of getting bogged down by the digital world/capitalism.
I’d recommend this to anyone who loves Pokemon, stop-motion animation, or just an easy relaxing watch. Definitely showing this to my future kids!
Wow only a 61% rating and it hasn't even been released yet. It's so bad people from the future built a time machine just to travel back to warn us!
If you ever wanted a Scott Pilgrim show with barely any Scott Pilgrim in it, then this one’s for you!
The first few episodes start off a bit shakey and a lot of the characters initially start off a bit dense and/or one dimensional. I would urge you to give it another go and get through a couple of episodes. After that, this show proves it is entirely worthy of the score and praise it gets.
I usually refrain from giving harsh reviews.
But this was utter garbage.
Story full of holes. Bad cast. Horrible pacing. Boring. Not even close to MCU standards.
They are trying to milk the cow with minimal effort.
Only watched the first 3 Episode, but it was essentially a worse version of:

Maybe I missed it, but to me they also didn't make clear why the "Storyteller" is actually telling the story.
Well they say that they NEED her, but it remains a bit unclear why. It doesn't look like a witness statement or testimony - They also don't ask her any question - she just keeps talking for hours.
All in all it feels very artificial. The aforementioned show is framed better, more entertaining, well it basically does a better job in any regard.
It kind of feels like NETFLIX couldn't stand that Hulu did preaching about something while they didn't...
This show is great & amazing scenery. Makes me want to visit Montana.
Looking forward to this, especially as Sam Elliott is in it. Owner of the best western moustache ever! He brings a great presence to anything he's in. Isabel May, excellent as narrator, looks remarkably like a cross between Jenifer Lawrence and Natalie Portman! A future star in the making.
Comments here need to be at minimum 5 words, but there are only 3 that are needed:
holy shit, chef
Six seasons and a movie... HELL YEAH!
Well ... up to the 6th and a half season a really good show I enjoyed watching. Since Red John ain't no more, not so much. They should have ended it there, in my opinion.
Nevertheless, I still would recommend the show to anyone who's asking!
Season 2 is planned to be released in 10 years. It will be called Netflix.
I looked at it according to the chronological order. Find it makes no sense at all otherwise.
VIOLET: 24 YEARS BEFORE THE HEIST
GREEN: 7 YEARS BEFORE THE HEIST
YELLOW: 6 WEEKS BEFORE THE HEIST
ORANGE: 3 WEEKS BEFORE THE HEIST
BLUE: 5 DAYS BEFORE THE HEIST
WHITE: THE HEIST
RED: THE MORNING AFTER THE HEIST
PINK: 6 MONTHS AFTER
I just recently watched this version of The Office (UK).
I did watch the US version first, back when it was airing and I loved it very much at the time.
For a long time I was curious to watch the UK version because of it being the original, but mostly because I've read so much praise when comparing both versions. The majority of critics I've read always put the UK version way above the US version.
I discovered that I'm not part of that "majority".
There is the bias of having watched the US version first, plus the obvious personal taste, and by the way, I'm not a native English speaker. In almost every way, I prefer Michael to David, I prefer Dwight to Gareth, I prefer Jim to Tim.
As manager, Michael Scott had much more depth in every aspect. Dwight Schrute also was much more fun and authentic in the shoes of the Assistant (to the) Regional Manager. The UK version is also too short. The romance between Tim and Dawn, which is a big part of the show, is very unsatisfying in this short arc. We barely see the inside of the warehouse. There are characters that disappear completely for no reason at all and you never find out what happened to them (ex: Donna, Ricky).
In almost every way, I prefer the US version. The length of the series is part of it, but I think that the UK version focused too much on David Brent, which made it way more dull, and didn't give enough room for diversity from the other characters.
A Stephen King and Stephen Spielberg Mix in the style of an 80s show. Beautifully played by every actor, the soundtrack is always on point, beautiful colours, beautiful dialogues. Amazing show. Well made, Netflix!
why are there 3 votes with one star, when the first episode hasn't even been aired yet?
Welcome back Dexter Morgan :hearts: God I missed him so much! And Deb too omgawd I'M SO HYPED!!!!
So glad they didn't change the music either it felt so nostalgic.
This season is a dream come true. I have tears in my eyes of happiness.
Mr. Robot + Dexter + Fifty shades of grey
The story is captivating and doesn't shy away from violence and more adult themes.
The animation is gorgeous.
The character development is on point. The characters are deep, relatable and they each have their struggles and growth.
Don't worry if you know nothing about League of Legends. Solid character development and world-building make Arcane an enjoyable watch regardless of having no background knowledge of the universe.
This show is a masterpiece.
There is no noise. You get thrown in a world with a simple explanation on how it came to be and how it works. You know who the enemy is and what he is after. Its that movie night show people want but rarely get. Beyond that the cinematography is top notch the actors are good and the idea is unique.
The great "Archie" getting a live-action adaptation?!?! THERE IS A GOD!!! If it is anything like the new Archie comic reboot (which is fantastic and a must-read), then I will be hooked. All I know is that one can never have enough Betty and Veronica, that's for sure... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
EDIT: Well, after watching the first episode of Riverdale, I don't quite know what to think of it all yet. Riverdale seems to be more heavily influenced by the CW's style turning this into more of a darker mystery driven show than I had been anticipating. We'll see how everything shakes out as the first episode already had its hands full just introducing the myriad of characters here. I really liked what was done in the recent Archie comic reboot but perhaps this mystery-story based approach is better suited for TV vs the lighter affair of the comics.
Also, we need more Jughead!!
