"But he does look pretty impotent."
After I came out of the movie theater, my wife said to me "I'm sorry Miyazaki" and I knew what she meant.
We watched the Ghibli films over and over again and even years later we still enjoy watching them. I don't think this movie will be like that. I don't think this movie will be something I remember like that.
I miss the visual power of the Ghibli films. Lots of cute characters, lots of scenes in which something "magical" happens and beautiful music.
It disappointed me to look at the clock after an hour and wonder if anything else was going to happen. The characters were not developed enough or not at all. Characters are introduced and that's partly it. At least that's how it felt. If something happens briefly, it's over just as quickly. Music is missing in so many places. A lot of scenes were silent, but the worst thing is that this fantastic soundtrack is not used anywhere, but shown to me at the end in the credits. A bummer and a waste. The story couldn't save anything for me either, it lacked information, a common line and a connection to the characters.
I remember the great characters from the other Ghibli films. Something I completely miss here, as characters are shown briefly and I personally can't connect with them. One of my first thoughts was "How is there going to be merchandise from this movie?" because I don't think there are those cute characters here that you remember.
I had to think of Suzume, who did much better for me here.
I hope you enjoy the movie.Unfortunately, I did not have fun and will not remember this movie with pleasure. Maybe the Miyazaki era is coming to an end, or maybe it's just me.
Ever since I read about the death of Ryuichi Sakamoto, I wanted to see the film. The music for the film by Sakamoto is hard to beat. A little tears at the end, just great.
Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence ! <3
How could I have overlooked this masterpiece for so long ? It's been a long time since I laughed so hard. I loved Andrew Santino in "Dave" but here he's playing Bobby Lee on another level.
The commercial breaks just come too often.
One of the few movies where I wished it would go an hour longer. Don't expect horror or anything like that, but rather a gripping weird movie that makes you feel like you're at a party with lots of weird people you don't know. But not the funny weird.
Although there were many scenes where I really had to laugh because it didn't fit into the picture at all.
Expect a movie that feels like a handjob that never gets finished. Real tension builds up in the last few minutes and before you know it the credits start rolling.
A typical movie where you only understand half of it, but you're still engaged in it afterwards. I love movies like this.
But for me it lacks a big bang or a twist. Which is why I was a little disappointed. But it was still worth it for me. Either you can do something with it or you will be bored as hell.
If you can relate to the music you will have fun. A nice concert. Unfortunately not much more. I had honestly wished for a bit more story or interviews. But after the remake trailer of A24 I wanted to have a look.
After reading the book, I really wanted to see the film version.
Unfortunately, I found the book a bit better.
In the book, the characters are fleshed out a bit better. And why the uncle in the film suddenly no longer stutters as he does in the book, I absolutely do not understand.
Not the best movie from Korea, but definitely worth seeing. There are many nice and funny moments that make up the film.
Let's make it as safe as possible.... that must have been the approach. I found myself on the phone again, because the film unfortunately has nothing that creates excitement or interest. Sure, for Nintendo fans a must, for me who wanted to see a movie unfortunately just a safe bet without anything special or salient but its well produced. I would rather watch The Room again tbh
30 minutes and four sex scenes. But it's not even worth it for that. Where did the 6 million go? The film consists of six sets or so and a green screen that makes no sense. Half of it is also dubbed in a disgusting way. In every second or third scene, the mouth moves out of sync with the spoken word.I often wondered if Wiseau had suffered a stroke while speaking.
Besides "Hi Marc", the flower seller is my highlight. He takes off his sunglasses and suddenly she recognizes him and says "You are my favorite costumer".
Expect dialogue like "The barbecue chicken was great.rice." or "We have a new customer at the bank, anyway how is you sexlife?".
It seems like Wiseau's laugh was recorded once and just randomly inserted into every scene.
The sound man also did a great job of making every scene an ASMR. I've never heard it better when someone pours themselves a drink. 10/10
If I have to hear that laugh one more time, I'm going to hit my wife. I did not hit her, i did nooooot.
Thanks David, I think we need more insights like this. A really nice glimpse into your family and your fight against racism and discrimination. The documentary could be a bit shorter cause 100 minutes are feeling just a bit too long imho...
What can I say, I love Harrison Ford and Jason Segal. That's why it's a no-brainer for me.Plus they got actors from scrubs, that's why it just feels nice and nostalgic.
Yes, not all the jokes sit well, but it was a nice teamwork on all characters.I look forward to a second season!
Enough to keep you interested. Without knowing the story, you know relatively quickly how the story ends. It's still worth it, the series is short after all.
But hell, I've never heard of Monica Dolan. Her acting almost brought me to tears. I loved her so much in the serie.
This kind of "What the hell is happening here ?" already in the first minutes. These damn good effects. It's a ride through a freaky yet gripping movie. I love it !
Unfortunately you can see how expensive the movie must have been and you know it didn't make the money by far. It deserved it, I love it!
My first film by Ruben Östlund. A film where I google the plot afterwards because I MUST have misunderstood the film. At least I thought so... When watching the film I was not completely bored, so not for the most part, although it is much too long and scenes are unnecessarily drawn out. The "humor" is carried by people throwing up and a german actress who always says the same sentence, because it is so funny. The plot and most of the film is meaningless and superfluous. Those who only understand through this film how unnecessary the fashion industry and influencers are and the sickness of some rich people who think they can afford and buy everything, I can't help either. If drunken russian oligarchs talking about communism and Karl Marx non-stop are your sweet spot, have fun.
But the plot is seriously that rich people are often arrogant, addicted to power and think they can buy anything for money? That's all it's about? And that a cleaning lady is happier if she is a bit higher up in society? Wow... I had hoped it was about something more. The film was perhaps interesting at the beginning, because he has built something. You could wonder where the journey goes. Then there are a lot of people puking (seriously, that's the humor? THAT IS THE HUMOR?), there are pirates who want to attack the ship (the scene was apparently not exciting enough to show it, which is why there is a cut and the protagonists are on an island). And before the island we see how people who make hand grenades are killed by a hand grenade. So goddam deep! That's not deep or interesting. This is weak and uninteresting storytelling. I don't find anything interesting in the film that isn't obvious sooner or later in the film. Most of the movie Woody Harrelson is not shown at all and gets to play a drunken captain. What a waste of an actor.
Don't understand the bad reviews. For me it was insanely good entertainment that reminded me of Tarantino again and again. The cast was really good and made up for the rather poor storyline for me. The movie doesn't take itself seriously at any point. Sure, if an often blunt humor is not for you, this whole movie is not for you.
I just love Brian Tyree Henry in combination with Thomas the Tank too much.
To be honest... I couldn't watch the movie to the end. That scene with the forklift and the following explanation in an incredibly bad and illogical way. Unfortunately I could only laugh about it because everything seemed more like a bad comedy from the 80s.
I was looking forward to a new exciting film from Jordan Peele with plots and surprises. But....Nope.
I can't see what others see in this movie. To be honest, for me it was an attempt to mix thriller/horror with sci-fi that unfortunately didn't work for me at all. I can't find a horror or thriller here at all.
I read about thrilling camera techniques and references to other films. I didn't see any of that.
Don't get me wrong,Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer did a fantastic job here. I also understand the allusions to the movie name when working with "jumpscares" or similar.
But in the end it remains for me unfortunately a film that slowly tells a rather boring story that is never really explained with many elements that get lost in the nowhere.
The film definitely deserves more attention. I really enjoyed following Martin and Musa. Sometimes the Nordic humor is just delightful.
In the end, it's still a comedy. Some scenes are so silly, you can't take them seriously. And remember...the dog is on vacation
This is about family and trust. And why many Koreans are still mad at Japanese (basically because they didn't apologize for what happened in the series). We follow a family through several generations and see how important family cohesion is. Especially in 4K, this series looks so damn good. The set and locations are just beautiful. Min-Ha Kim plays so damn well and manages to develop a personality over the series that you can relate to and sympathize with. I've rarely seen facial expressions and emotions so damn good. Yuh-jung Youn is just as simply wonderful and you fall in love with her immediately. But let's note, the whole cast is very very well chosen. The more you watch the more you get into the family. I am excited for the second season!
The series is mostly well done and gripping, no question. The music continues to haunt you and stays in your head.
You should definitely watch the series, but I don't quite understand the hype. Korea has so many series and movies to offer.
The ending was just a disappointment for me and the plot is just flat.
At the end it seems like the series should be finished very quickly. The author said in an interview that it took him six months to write the first episode, but in the end you don't notice it. Many points are not explained and the end is open, although a second season is probably not even planned.
But in the end you get a good series that's easy to watch with a fantastic cast and a few scenes that are really just fantastic.
The dubs are crappy and especially in German I'm about to puke.
The damn game is not called red light green light in the original or green light red light as in the German dubbing which makes even less sense. It just sounds like fucking shit and the Korean language is too beautiful to ignore.
Of course you don't find out who the murderer was. But let me make one thing clear:
The real hwaseong killer was found over 30 years later. Over 15 years after this film. The real murderer also lived in the next village, came to work in a factory and to kill by bus and the actor looks very similar to the original.
This film has it all. His gripping moments and a bit of stupid humor. Well played and exciting. This film manages to show the work and the mistakes of the police. Big compliment !
