Started great, not so much by the end... too many disconnected and unexplained things, while not being interesting enough at the same time

It's episode one bud. They're not gonna hand you everything on a platter.
Intriguing photography and aptly composed soundtrack aside, I can't help but think that this movie's missing a good chunk of its plot.
Sure, we get that Jack and other husbands wanted their wives to be "happy", and we even know why some of those women (like Bunny) who were in the know chose to stay in the simulation, but... Why did Frank set all of this up? What was his end goal? Plus that part where his wife says that she was gonna take matters in her own hands led pretty much to nowhere. And what about the mechanics of this whole operation? How did it even work, exactly, and how was it even sustainable in the long term? And how is it that Alice escaping it would bring everything down? She doesn't know where everyone's body is in real life...
I would conclude that, after a drawn out build up of tension and mystery, the reveal felt lacking and unoriginal, just like in the "Watcher". If you want to delve into themes such as societal gender roles and male control over women, I'd suggest watching the new "Men" horror flick, a much more successful attempt at meaningful debate in this respect.

@katrin-kaspersson It's pretty explicit. No they did not "want their wives to be happy". They wanted their own little perfect dreamworld where their lobotomized wives are basically their slaves and sex dolls. It's also explicitly said that Bunny is the only wife that knows.
Alice explicitly said it. He stole her life. He was a loser while she had a successful career. He could not take it, started listening to Frank, and in the end took her forcibly in his fantasy world where he is the main character and she is just here to serve him.
It would bring everything down because keeping people captive and drugged against their will is a crime and as soon as she can reveal what happened the whole organization will be investigated and they're all going to jail. Also when Jack is interviewed for the project the questions are "desired wife" and "preexisting relationship" implying that some of the wives are actually not in a relationship with their "husbands" before being put into the system. So you can add kidnapping to it.
Why did Frank do this ? He's a cult leader. He built his own world where he has all the power. Also the husbands are paying him a ton of (real world) money for that.
After two episodes, there are a few things I do not get about this new show. First, why do you bother making it, if you do exactly the same script like in the movie before? Second, why are the actors so young? I guess it's about making a new franchise for a target group which is basically this young. But this does not work for me on so many levels. I think the characters should at least be 16 years old. So that fight scenes actually look like fight scenes. And that you do not need a legal guardian for a quest to support them. And third, I am not sure that I actually buy the whole lightning story. Why is it, that the highest gods cannot comprehend who actually stole the lightning bolt? An alcoholic, a horse, a goat and a child got behind this in two minutes. So much about all seeing and all knowing gods.

It’s finally an accurate adaptation of the book series.
It may seem weird to someone who only watched the old movies, but this tv show was written with Rick Riordan (the author) and has the heart and soul of the book series.
You guys are being a little harsh on Ashley there’s like nearly $5m on the line bc (I’ve been softening up all day)

Also, the editing is obviously malicious towards her. But it is funny that she "broke the rules" on the bridge and got someone else out because she was selfish, and then got mad that someone else tried to do the same thing towards her lol.
Decent episode with Oliver Queen being in a significant amount of the episode. The only complaint that I have is the writing for Sara Lance/ White Canary. Ok writers, we get it. She's a lesbian. Does that constantly need to be referenced during each episode? It will be interesting to find out what happened to Rip.

@typowell40 did u complain about the forced relationship between Kendra and Ray last season? Cause i hope so! That hetero relationship was much more forced than what happens with Sara's flings, Sara is much more natural. Don't complain.
Anyone else feel kinda 'meh' about the winner?

For me it was between Kylie and Ra’Jah, I would’ve been happy with either one.
I’ve seen two episodes now and I’ve got to ask: what’s the point of watching this?
There’s nothing inherently satisfying about the show itself.
Just putting a twist on existing lore and calling it a day isn’t enough to hold my attention for 30 mimutes, nor any sane person, I imagine.
Are people only watching this because it sets up future stuff?
Why would anyone watch something that’s just set-up?
Projects are always supposed to function as an isolated piece of art, and not just as a piece of a larger machine.
This show is so empty, it’s the kind of format that lends itself for short 4 minute videos on Youtube.
But a feature series? Come on.Edit: alright so there is an attempt to tie the loose ends together in the final episode, but still, it kinda fails to justify its existence.

You gotta take a step back and be more chill. Just because you aren't enjoying it doesn't make everyone else insane for liking it. It's 30 minutes of entertainment. We've two episodes in at your review. We've gotten pretty much everything the trailers and posters promised. How much were you expecting from an anthology animated spin-off?

I'd argue (a) there's a lot of projects that would counter that argument and (b) there's no reason this anthology series couldn't stand alone.
But to answer the questions, you imply but ask poorly, I think at the very minimum the scope of the show so far is not unlike "How It Should Have Ended" but more professionally done. It's purely just for fun with zero stakes (so far). It's been over 20 movies and numerous TV shows depending on how you count it in the span of 18 years. It's been a relentless pace of almost an entire generation of film after film after film. In between which we've had shows that work and shows that didn't and shows that work again and in all of that we've never had anything meta like What if..? It's a time filler that knows it's a time filler. It can certainly be interesting on that level alone. It's The Twilight Zone with superheroes complete with it's Rod Sterling stand-in with Jeffrey Wright. They are one-time stories you don't really have to remember. For the most part it was that way when these alternate universe stories started in the comics too.

@jordyep The purpose of "what if" is to have creative fun. That's always been the purpose of the comic book "what if" series as well. We watch it because, you know, it's fun.
Wow too political 1/10

@the_argentinian your comment is too political 1/10
"Two wrongs make a white" Seriously? Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a comedy series. No one watches a series for it to be woke garbage. I'll give it a chance but If I'm getting politics thrown at my face 24/7 I won't finish this series.

@legallythebear The show has always had slight hints towards injustice and imo they have to make it clear that these characters aren't complacent if they want them to continue being just as likable.
You can't set a cop show in a world that navigates racial and sexual politics and then pussyfoot around the shitty police system. Maybe it could have been more subtle, as could the me too episode, but it's not the politics that are the problem, and it for sure fits into B99's "woke" wheelhouse.

@legallythebear uuuh no. you claim to have watched each episode more than three times yet you still don't get the show at all. "moo moo" was NOT a slight hint. neither was "he said she said". do better.
what a stupid show. Hollywood/Disney outdid themselves on showing their stupidity on this one . waste of file time and money.

@kchaulk I encourage you to do better.
Terribly boring. Doubt I’ll continue past episode 2. Just uninteresting and not funny.
update: watched the entire series.
still uninteresting, still not funny, the only thing worse than this in the MCU is Captain Marvelloading replies
@tsommerf i dont get how people dont get that it isnt supposed to be a comedy show. Whooosh right over your head.
first 10 min already nothing like the books. What is so hard about following the books for once..

Following the books 100% is boring. If you want the books, read the books. Page-by-page remakes kills creativity for TV/film producers and it makes for a very boring project, that's why you never see 100% page-by-page adaptations. An adaptation works when the spirit of the source material is there, but it still feels fresh. Shot-for-shot remakes work as art projects like the Psycho remake, which was an artistic study and actually comes to the very same conclusion. It's way more interesting to explore the source material and use it in a new, creative way that keeps the material fresh. It's why Shakespeare has been fascinating people for over 400 years and why music by Bach and Beethoven is still being played. Shadowhunters is no exception.
