I don't think he was in the first Hunger Games movie.
I kept waiting for the story to happen. It feels like they were going for something much deeper than what they achieved. I barely stayed awake during the 20 minutes of watching people talk on Skype calls.
Kind of a chore to get through. Could have been a short film. Not really that funny either. Just annoying to listen to a bunch of southern accents say dumb shit.
Every aspect of the movie was enjoyable except for the story. The acting and set design specifically drew me in. But it seems to suffer from a lack of overall direction.
I honestly felt like it was a burden to get through. I have been really excited for the arrival of Kang and was met with a CGI hellscape that was fatiguing to look at. I wouldn't have been able to finish if not for needing to make sure I didn't miss any MCU plot points that could be referenced later.
I'm all for films about interesting people. But when the film fails to be interesting itself, it doesn't really serve its purpose.
In short, Roger (Ben Stiller) is a failed musician who spends most of his time up his own ass, but has agreed to house-sit at his brother's house while they are vacationing in Vietnam. Roger winds up spending time with his brother's assistant (Greta Gerwin) and developing feelings for her.
I would elaborate but, to my dismay, this was the entire movie. I drew no attachment to any of the characters and was unable to empathize because their actions were unpredictable. Many films of this style (where nothing actually happens) are masked by comedy or stunning filmography. In the Case of Greenberg, there are no redeeming qualities to be found throughout. The few gags and jokes found in the film were laughable but not enough to save the movie. Most of the film takes place in a large home in SoCal so there are no stunning landscapes or awe inspiring camera angles.
I would recommend something with more substance if you want a feel good romance with interesting characters. Away We Go is a fantastic substitute for Greenberg.
The makers of Pixels were faced with what I imagine was pretty difficult task of making a film that appealed to both young audiences as well as the folks who grew up with the games and references featured in the film. Taking that into consideration, I did enjoy the movie. To be honest, it wasn't as "nerdy" as I had expected and hoped but it was entertaining.
The special effects were outstanding for the most part. There were only a couple of instances where the green screen effect was sloppy. You'll catch them no doubt.
It was a Happy Madison production so the cast was a lot of familiar faces. And the song choice was predictable. But didn't really hinder the film at all.
As for story, it wasn't awful. There were a few times when I just couldn't go along with it. But for the most part it didn't feel forced. It was all very funny and typical Adam Sandler humor.
There's nothing after the credits but during the credits you can watch the entire film in 8-bit format. Pretty cool.
Having extremely high expectations for this film, I still walked out of the theater satisfied. Just not as satisfied as I had expected. I won't spoil anything, worry not.
The acting in this film was fine. Not spectacular for most but Chris Pratt was fantastic as usual.
The story was decent, though there were some areas that seemed underdeveloped. Personally I'd have preferred the movie go a whole different direction. It just seemed a bit forced. Certain characters weren't realistic enough or human enough and it detracted from the story.
The effects were spectacular. Cooler than I had even expected. I really enjoyed them.
Overall worth seeing but don't expect to be absolutely blown away.
God's Not Dead- The worst and most inaccurate piece of godly propaganda I have ever seen. Aside from being riddled with fallacies and being completely unrealistic (similar to what it stands for), the film and its creators look at nothing objectively and insist that atheists and other religions are all terrible, abusive and corrupt people.
If atheists were to make a film that flipped roles and portrayed christians the way they portrayed us, there would be utter outrage. But, if you haven't noticed, no one opposing this film really took it seriously enough to even be offended.
The film tells viewers that you can't be a good moral person without Jesus, and that it is perfectly fine to abandon your religion and beliefs as long as you are abandoning them to join the christian church. They also claim that if there's no god, then we as humans have no morals. That's extremely reassuring. I should hope filmmakers never lose their faith, otherwise they could go on a killing spree.
So yeah, go watch it. It's good for a laugh or two but the sex scene is rubbish.
It isn't an easy task, trying to sum this film up in a couple paragraphs, but I will do what I can. This is one of those films that I walked into with sky-high expectations and it is one of the very few that not only met those expectations, but beat the piss out of them as well. Kingsman: The Secret Service has all the makings of a great thriller/comedy/action/spy/romance film and if you are a fan of movies at all, I highly recommend it. I am not going to go into detail about the movie, you should really just go watch it.
Throughout the film, there were a couple of times that I was reminded of the Men in Black franchise. Though Kingsman has nothing to do with extraterrestrials, the humorous secret service theming is very familiar. But I found Kingsman to be superior in several ways. The story is complete and satisfying with a few decent twists but nothing totally mindfucking. And if you are like me and expect a certain level of character development in order to be happy, you won't be disappointed.
There is a small bit of disbelief that you have to suspend in order to enjoy the movie, but I had no trouble with that. The fight scenes were ridiculously cool, even for someone like me that isn't really an action kind of guy. I am more about finding an emotional connection to the characters in a film and I became fairly attached to several of them in this one. My only real complaint was that a couple instances in the film that utilized a green screen were very noticeable and almost hard to get past. But what it lacks in green screen effects, it more than makes up for in humor and other special effects.
So, in conclusion, this was a movie well worth seeing. So hurry up and catch it while it's still in theaters.
Though I am not Vince's biggest fan, I had to see this movie once I saw the trailer. The film caught my eye with it s incredibly interesting story and conundrums. After viewing, I give this movie a firm 9/10 stars. The idea behind the story is a bit fantastical but the acting and progression was so good that I was able to buy into it immediately. From the very beginning, this film has a lot of heart and by the end I was very emotionally involved with all of the characters. So go see it! I highly recommend.
