I originally rated this series as one of my rare 10/10 but after rewatching this series with my son I have decided to drop my rating to 8/10 and the reason for this is purely the last season. I don’t know what I was thinking originally I really don’t. This season could have been brilliant but now I see it lacked lustre and intrigue, it wrote characters off poorly and without just reasoning and most of all it felt lazy.
I was so excited to get my son to watch this.. I kept saying just wait until it all comes together, but it didn’t. I actually thought maybe e we missed a season without realising but we hadn’t.
The plot in ALT could been made so much more of and Juliana’s storyline just faded into the background. In fact her scenes were so insignificant she may as well have not been there. Don’t get me started on Joe Blake.. what a waste of a good character. So there we go…
out of 500 tv shows only 6 made it into my 10/10 and now there’s only 5 shows.
In case you were wondering what I consider perfection they are:
House of cards (last season not counted)
Breaking Bad
Vikings
Hannibal
Life on Mars
I think Effie is the most interesting character by far in this whole series. (Season by season her character gets deeper. Torn between 2 worlds in every aspect of her life… lovers, drugs, study, future, loyalties… And that’s exactly what her character does to the viewer.
In one season you hate her next you love her. On the one hand you want to feel sorry for her, but on the other hand you know she doesn’t need your pity and is more than capable of taking care of herself. Nonetheless you still want to wrap her up in a cosy blanket and take care of her just for a bit.
Effie’s journey in mind is probably the hardest of all the characters because ultimately she is alone. No parents, no family, no truly loyal friends, she has nobody. She is trying to navigate her life in the best way she can. Those decisions are not always the wisest, but she refuses to give up.
I have no idea what the writers have planned for Effie. Although the writers must be in heaven with the choices available for Effie’s future, I feel more than any other character she deserves and WE deserve, to see her go off into the sunset and live happily ever after…
Then again this is MTV not Disney!
I always comment on shows rarely on one character particularly one who isn’t a lead but I on this occasion I really felt it had to be said.
Here’s wishing Effie Morales a long and happy future! :yellow_heart:
