I'm a simple girl. If a show has anything to do with superheroes, if it's in any way connected to Marvel or DC, there's a good chance I'll watch it. And I'll probably love it, whether it's dark and gritty like Jessica Jones or charming and family-friendly like Supergirl. Legion is no exception to the rule.
I'm not a comic book reader. I didn't know the first thing about the character when I started the episode, and I had no idea what to expect. Having just finished it, I think I can safely say that this show is unlike anything I've watched before. In a good way. I enjoyed every second of the pilot. The cinematography is spectacular. The bright colors, the flashing lights, almost horror-like moments, blurring the lines between reality and David's delusions, scenes of people dancing - because why not?, seemingly random shots and flashbacks, and the general insanity all create a completely unique atmosphere. It's almost hypnotizing, making it impossible for you to look away, drawing you in. The plot isn't the most revolutionary, but the way the show is shot and edited still makes it feel fresh and original. I like the characters and I'm excited to see what will happen next.
I would like to take a moment to applaud Mallory Jansen for her stellar work. It was so weird hearing her real Australian accent because her American one is so good. So was her British accent on Galavant, for that matter. But the way she plays Aida is just incredible. There is something unnervingly non-human about her, which is exactly what I would expect from an android. It was especially visible in this episode, where she also played Agnes, an actual human being. You could see how Aida's eyes were just a tiny bit emptier, her facial expressions a little more artificial. And her obvious yet subtle resentment of Agnes. It was mindblowing.
I think it's super creepy how Radcliffe modeled Aida after his ex. And Aida's obvious jealousy of him makes me really uncomfortable. By the way, how did such a stunning, young woman as Agnes fall in love with such an old geezer? I know love is blind and all, but come on.
The Inhuman dude regenerating after blowing himself up was disgusting. I mean, I guess it's a cool power, but is it really worth it if you are basically blown to pieces every single time?
The Superior has Mace now. Boy, he's in for a big surprise when the Inhuman Director turns out to be not so Inhuman.
I was expecting Radcliffe to come up with some kind of immortality serum. Instead, he builds a fucking simulation? Is that really the best the Darkhold had to offer? I don't want to live inside a computer for the rest of eternity, thank you very much.
Yes. The writers finally remembered that the Danvers sisters are the emotional core of this show.
I hate that they keep making Kara sad. She deserves all the happiness in the world. So does Alex. But why does one of them being giddy and in love mean that the other is lonely? That's so not fair because then Alex ends up looking like a bad guy, which is not the case at all. I'm glad they at least had that scene at Kara's apartment at the end of the episode.
I know you're probably fed up with my hate for Mon-El, but I just can't with this dude. It's so fucked up that Kara says that she doesn't have feelings for him, but of course, if a woman says "no", it doesn't really mean "no", right? (Spoiler alert: yes, it fucking does.) What kind of message does this storyline send to young girls? Oh, and it's curious how those feelings didn't manifest until Kara was in a vulnerable place and felt alienated by her friends. Makes you think, huh?
I love M'gann. She deserved this episode. I really hope she'll be back soon, leading a White Martian rebellion or something. And her relationship with J'onn is absolutely touching and amazing.
Jeremy Jordan makes a scary good psychopath. So does Chyler Leigh. It freaked me out a little bit.
This was an awesome episode. Very surprising and intense, and it put a severely underappreciated character in the spotlight. Next week we're getting the same thing with Lena Luthor. I can't wait.
The flashbacks in this episode were some of the best ones in years. We learned the origins of Oliver's costume, his weapon of choice and the opening monologue of the show. Talia is an awesome character. She's Nyssa half-sister or something, right?
I like how the metahumans' powers are connected to what they were doing when the particle accelerator exploded. It does raise some questions, though. What if someone was throwing up when the dark matter hit them? Would they be able to, I don't know, defeat their enemies with radioactive vomit?
I liked Felicity's storyline. It was kind of hilarious to see a hacktivist groupie geek out over meeting her hero. I wonder what Felicity's going to do with all the information she has now. I also enjoy her relationship with Rory. But I can't believe that a young kid like him doesn't know what "IRL" means.
Oliver and the recruits are becoming quite a good team. Rene is a lot more likeable now than he was at the beginning of the season.
Dinah? Freaking Dinah? I'm not crying, you're crying. No one can ever replace Laurel, but Dinah made a hell of a first impression. I already like her.
Agents Sam and Billy Koenig! We haven't seen them in forever! And a bunch of Star Wars references right at the beginning. They always make my nerdy heart so happy.
I'm dying at Sam's comment about people writing Quake fanfiction. It's so funny when they break the fourth wall. And shipping Daisy with Black Widow? I honestly can't tell you what I'm thinking right now. But boy, if I wasn't gay before...
Fitz's father has been a pretty big mystery since the beginning of the show. The only thing we really knew about him was that he left when Fitz was a kid. I've always had a weird feeling that someday he would turn out to be important to the plot. And look at that, I was right.
I love that no one knows exactly how many Koenings are at SHIELD. It's a hilarious running gag.
I fully support Jemma and Mack being the Co-Captains of the Leopold Fitz Defense Squad.
I've never been so relieved about two characters getting cockblocked before they could kiss. Honestly, this whole storyline with LMD May can choke.
L.T. Koenig is a woman! What a delightful surprise!
I don't know much about espionage, but playing a game of Hot Potato with one of the most powerful objects in the world? That doesn't seem very safe, does it? Do those Agents even know how to agent?
I'll never be over the way Fitz says "Jemma". It's like music to my ears.
Jemma finally figured out what's going on with May! Where's my champagne?
Oh, so they want to kill Coulson. Well, I'm pretty sure that if Loki couldn't kill him - at least not enough for him to stay dead - then a bunch of guys in a submarine won't succeed either.
This episode made me realize two things:
Who is going to be the Big Bad next season? The stakes don't really get any higher than the actual god of speed. How can they possibly top Savitar?
Barry is pretty slow for someone who calls himself "the fastest man alive", eh? He's not even in the top 10 if fucking Kid Flash has a better shot at saving Iris.
My stomach hurts from laughing. The Flash's had its ups and downs, but the one thing it consistently excels at is comedy. Cisco flirting with Gypsy, H.R.'s narration at the beginning of the episode, Joe and Iris' conversation at the precinct (poor Joe looked like he was about to have a stroke), Julian's complete lack of bedside manner, the list goes on. I love the humor on this show.
I'll never get over the way H.R. pronounces "Francisco". It's gold.
Cisco, my brave, selfless son. He kicked some serious ass in this eisode. I guess they're just beginning to really explore the extent of his powers.
Cisco and Gypsy were kind of cute. Once they got past the "I'm going to kill you" phase, that is.
I love that they jumped to Supergirl's Earth and fought in Cat's office at CatCo.
I want to see more of Iris the Badass Reporter. More often than not, she gets sidelined and doesn't do much except hang around S.T.A.R. Labs with no real purpose. Give her the storylines she deserves. Please. By the way, that scene where she faced the arms dealer at the warehouse got me thinking. She made a good point. If she's supposed to die 4 months from now, that means she's effectively immortal until then, right? I mean, what would happen if she went skydiving without a parachute? Or jumped into a pool full of hungry sharks? Or tried to learn to juggle chainsaws? Would she die, thus changing the future? I get dizzy trying to wrap my head around it.
Give M'gann more screentime 2k17. She's such a fascinating character and her relationship with J'onn is incredible. She should appear way more often. Same goes for Maggie, whose lack of storylines makes me even angrier because she's a main character. Maybe if they focused less on a certain fuckboy, we could get more of these two kickass women.
The White Martians are coming! I'm so excited!
Livewire is a great villain, and I enjoy her role as Kara's recurring nemesis. I also thought it was a clever plot twist to make her a victim in this episode. And there was yet another evil British scientist. What is it about Brits that makes Americans constantly cast them as bad guys? It's a mystery to me.
Kara finally knows that James is Guardian. There were obvious parallels between them in this episode - they both told the other that they don't get to decide who becomes a hero, and they were both pretty hypocritical about it. I guess I understand Kara's point of view - Lord knows she's lost enough people and she just wants to protect her friends, but James and Winn are also kind of right?
Winn continues to be the funniest character on the show. Jeremy Jordan's comedic timing is impeccable. And his face when Team Guardian got Space Dad's official seal of approval? Priceless. I love my reckless children throwing themselves into danger while yelling YOLO and their exasperated Martian father shaking his head in the background.
I hope we'll get more Kara/Alex/Maggie scenes. I love the three of them so much.
I wanted to see Alex and Maggie eat vegan ice cream (which sounds super gross, by the way, go cow or go home), but no. No, instead I had to suffer through two minutes of Mon-El making sad puppy dog eyes at Kara and acting all sweet so that we'll believe what a good guy he is for her. At least she rejected him for now, but I'm willing to bet my right hand that it's just temporary and eventually she'll give in to his "charms". Kara, honey. You deserve so much better. Why can't the writers see that?
This episode fucked with my head. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out which events were real and which were only a simulation.
I'm always a sucker for a May-centric episode. All her fight scenes were awesome. But the ending made me tear up a bit. Radcliffe is such an asshole, playing with her head like that. I can't wait for her to wake up and kick his ass all the way back to Scotland.
I love Mack and Elena. I absolutely love them. Their height difference gives me life. And when I saw that scene at the beginning with the two of them having a post-sex pillow talk, the first thing that popped into my head was "Oh, so that's why they moved the show to 10 PM".
Thank God, Fitz wasn't obsessing over Aida, he was looking for proof that Radcliffe was the real bad guy. I'm so happy. I was afraid that the writers were trying to break FitzSimmons up or some shit.
I feel bad for LMD May. I really do. It must be so horrible to realize that you're not real, that you're only alive because some crazy scientist stole someone else's life. Am I the only one getting strong Dollhouse vibes from this?
And the "Thanks for reminding me how definitely not straight I am" award goes to Daisy in a fucking pantsuit. That was such a good look.
I liked it better when the four DC shows aired on four different nights, but whatever. I guess the people at the CW wanted to boost the ratings by airing Legends after The Flash.
I can't believe that they made an episode about the Legends trying to convince George Lucas to become a movie director. That is so wild. I love it. And there were so many awesome references to Star Wars, like "You're our only hope" and the trash compactor.
Rip forgot who he is and to be honest, I hope he won't remember anytime soon. I like the team as it is.
Every now and again I randomly remember that Arthur Darvill played Rory Williams on Doctor Who. Apparently, he was destined to play characters travelling through time and space on a ship.
It was such a small moment, but I love the trope of a super intense scene with people running or fighting cutting to a shot of someone riding in an elevator with soft music in the background. It always makes me laugh, no matter how many times I've seen it.
"- I have an idea.
- So this would be a new milestone for you then."
Professor Stein went in and took no prisoners, huh? How did Mick manage to recover from such a savage burn?
I have a question. How the hell was Barry able to afford that huge-ass loft? Did he rob a fucking bank or something?
I wish they would stop going back and forth on Caitlin's powers. In the Christmas episode, she could control them just fine. Now, she's struggling again. Come on, guys. That is just lazy writing.
I love H.R. The Cisco hologram and the pirate accent made me laugh so hard. I also adore his and Cisco's relationship. It's such a good brOTP.
Julian is a part of the team! I admit, I didn't like him very much at first, but he's kind of grown on me.
I'm glad that Barry told the team the truth about what he saw in the future. Lying to the people closest to you never works out well.
That scene in the time vault was absolutely heartbreaking. I cried a little bit. I swear, if they touch one hair on Iris' head, I will fly to Vancouver and personally kick the writers' asses. I don't give a shit. Nobody is killing anybody on my ship.
"- I got you guys a plant. That's like a standard housewarming gift, right?
-Not on my Earth. On my Earth, we get reptiles."
Well, shit. I want to live on H.R.'s Earth. Barry was so adorably happy when he got McSnurtle the turtle. By the way, why would you want to change such a dope name?
Supergirl is finally back, which means that I'm back to getting up at 4:30 AM just to bring you these dank-ass reviews that you guys love so much (sarcasm alert) before I have to go to school.
I think the writers finally remembered that Kara is the title character. This episode focused more on her and put her at the center of the story instead of sidelining her like the last few episodes did.
I just have to say, Roulette certainly knows how to make an entrance. And going from running an underground fight club in National City to running intergalactic slave trade on another planet? That is impressive. I mean, I don't condone her actions, but you gotta admire her talent for business.
I hope that we'll get to see more of Kara the Reporter. Working at CatCo used to be such a big part of her storyline, integral to her growth as Supergirl, and now she's barely ever there. If Cat Grant were here, she wouldn't stand for this.
And she most definitely wouldn't stand for the whole Man-Hell mess. They're trying to make him a more likeable character because they want the audience to jump aboard the Karamel ship. Well, how do I put this politely? You've got to be fucking kidding me. This guy was a selfish, immature jackass right from the get-go, he was just plain rude to Kara on multiple occassions, he didn't want to have anything to do with the superhero business until the plot needed him to. Honestly, it would've been so much better if he had stayed Kara's clueless little brother. She even compared him to her cousin at one point, so how can you not get creepy incest vibes from this relationship? I know I do.
(Sidenote: I feel like the writers saw Katie McGrath and her magical inability to play a straight character, realized that a lot of people shipped Kara and Lena, and scrambled in panic towards the writers' room to get Kara together with the first male character they could think of because we already have one (1) LGBT character on this show and now Kara has to be an Outstanding Heterosexual or the homophobes would lose their minds.
Sidenote #2: I didn't really ship Karolsen in season 1, but goddamn it, I'll take it over Karamel any day.)
I liked Winn's storyline. Jeremy Jordan nailed all the emotions that our beloved computer geek had to deal with after his brush with death. And his excitement when he managed to overcome his fear and defend himself was adorable.
Alex and Maggie were happy and domestic, Maggie was wearing Alex's shirt, Alex's heart eyes were out of control and I fucking died. Then the angst came, but fortunately, it was resolved pretty quickly. And damn, Maggie was sporting such a gay look in that last scene. Amazing.
"- Plus, the glasses don't help.
- I always said that too. It's kind of ridiculous."
Oh, thank God. At least one person's noticed how lame Kara's disguise is. I knew that Maggie "I'm a Detective, Agent Danvers, I detect" Sawyer wouldn't let me down.
My girl Daisy finally getting the recognition she deserves. It all went to shit after 5 minutes, of course, but it was still nice to see people appreciate her for a change.
I wasn't really surprised when Mace turned out to not be an Inhuman. I've never noticed that briefcase before, though. It's entirely possible that I just didn't pay attention to it until it became relevant to the plot, but I could've sworn that we'd never seen Burrows carry it before this episode.
Stop hurting Melinda May 2k17. Please.
I get that Radcliffe created Aida, so obviously he trusts her, but still, letting an android poke you with acupuncture needles? This guy doesn't have common sense.
Decoy May and Daisy had a cute scene sitting inside Lola. I still catch myself thinking of them as mother and daughter.
Can the writers stop dicking around with FitzSimmons? Seriously, Fitz is lying to Jemma now? Yeah, sure, because that's not out of character for him at all. Just leave these two alone and let them be happy! We don't need more drama!
Jemma just walked into that interrogation room and broke the guy in 20 seconds flat. If you think that Daisy or May are the biggest baddest badasses at SHIELD, think again. Jemma Simmons is a small unassuming murderous science child who will rip you to shreds with a polite smile on her face and a cup of tea in her hand.
Oh, this was fantastic. Such an intense episode that also did a great job of getting me excited for the next season.
"Haven't you learned anything this year... week... season?"
"It's the end of the season, er, semester."
Fourth wall? What fourth wall?
Shirley's tale of woe complete with seductive poses made me cry with laughter.
I'm really sad that we watched the Quagmires' daring escape and journey from Peru back to their home just for them to perish in a fire. I knew it was coming, but it still hurt.
That musical number at the end was unexpected, but I loved it. Somehow it just fit right in with the rest of the weirdness and absurdity.
Overall, this was an amazing season. All the actors were superb in their roles. Shoutout to Patrick Warburton in particular for being the perfect Lemony Snicket. His smooth voice and calm, somewhat deadpan delivery were exactly what I'd hoped for. NPH IS Count Olaf. He absolutely nailed the role. Malina Weissman and Louis Heyes were a bit stiff and awkward at times, but I still think they did an excellent job, especially considering that they're both just 13 years old and have very little acting experience. I'm sure they're just going to get better with age. And Sunny... Sunny is wonderful. I love her. I love all three of them, actually. They're my children now. I'm going to protect them and keep them safe and comfortable. They're going to eat ice cream for dinner. Their bedtime is never.
I think I should start by saying that I loved the books as a kid. I first got my hands on them when I was like 9 years old and they were unlike anything I'd read before: dark, a little creepy, sometimes hilarious in the most absurd way and wonderfully, deliciously weird. I haven't read them for years, but they still hold a very special place in my heart, so I was extremely excited for this show. And boy, the first episode definitely didn't disappoint.
The visuals are great. They look obviously fake, but they capture the atmosphere of the books really well. I loved the juxtaposition of the grey, gloomy beach and the children's brightly-colored clothes, as well as the obvious contrast between Justice Strauss and Count Olaf's houses.
The opening theme is fantastic. And the fact that Neil Patrick Harris is the one singing it just makes it better.
The cast is a big plus too. I was a little worried how the child actors would handle such big roles, but Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes are very talented. And Neil Patrick Harris is the perfect choice for Count Olaf. I enjoyed Patrick Warburton's narration as well.
Overall, this was an amazing first episode. And I expect the show to only get better from here, since The Bad Beginning is actually my least favorite book of all.
I'm surprised this show returned so quickly after the holidays. In seasons 2 and 3 we had to wait until March.
The new logo is fucking sick. Easily the best one they've ever done.
I'm so mad about May. It's driving me insane that they're obviously going to make something happen between Coulson and the decoy. He'll be devastated when he finds out the truth. I can smell the angst from here.
If there was one thing I never expected to see on this show, it was Jemma Simmons doing a Southern accent. And totally kicking a guy's ass. What happened to that adorable and awkward scientist in an ugly sweater who couldn't lie her way out of a paper bag? Oh, right. As Daisy pointed out in this episode, she's been kidnapped like three times. And only twice on this planet. Jeffrey's "holy shit" face pretty much summed up all my thoughts on the subject.
I'm being nitpicky here, but why would you give your son a traditional Indian name like Vijay and then call your daughter something as quintessentially English as Ellen? It's like naming your kids John and Persephone or Mary and Rocket. Come on. Was it too hard for the writers to come up with an Indian name for the Senator?
The MVP award in this episode goes to Mack, who made me laugh repeatedly with his robot movie references. And that fist bump with YoYo after he cut Aida's head off? That is Marvel Cinematic Universe at its finest, guys.
Radcliffe is evil. I admit, I did not see that one coming.
What a fun episode. I absolutely loved the film noir vibe.
One of the reasons why I enjoy this show so much is because a ragtag team of misfits becoming a family is one of my favorite tropes ever. The Legends are just delightful. Ray and Nate bickering and bro-hugging were hilarious. Mick and Amaya's Bonnie and Clyde team-up was unexpected, but worked extremely well. And Sara and Stein shared some touching, heartfelt moments.
I promised myself that I would focus on positive aspects of episodes in my reviews and not yell too much about the bad. So I just want you all to know that I do acknowledge the astounding level of hypocrisy of Sara and Stein deciding that keeping their family safe is more important than history just one week after the crossover where everyone turned their backs on Barry because of Flashpoint. Is it frustrating? Yes. Am I going to rant angrily about it? No. No, I'm not.
We haven't seen Malcolm Merlyn for a while. His fight with Sara was so good. There are few things better than two former League of Assassins members trying to kill each other.
And Snart was there as well! Which reminds me, if Ray has his suit back, who's going to wield the cold gun now?
The show has been working perfectly without Rip, but I guess he's coming back soon. I don't mind his character, but I've gotten used to the team dynamic we have now and I'm afraid his return might ruin that.
Holy mother of plot twists. It's a Christmas miracle! Laurel is back... right? Please, tell me that she is really back. I can't lose her again. I just can't.
"In our town, people who are dead turn out to be secretly alive almost every Wednesday."
Yeah, that pretty much sums up the show. Honestly, they could bring back anyone at this point and I wouldn't bat an eye.
So, why did Evelyn join Prometheus? She decided to stop the guy who killed some greedy rich assholes four years ago by teaming up with a dude who kills cops? In what world does that make sense?
I didn't really care about Felicity's boyfriend, and the fact that they decided to give him some character development in this episode made it pretty obvious that they were going to kill him. The one good thing that came out of it was the scene where Oliver confessed to Felicity that he had accidentally killed Billy. That was some top-notch acting right there.
I'm kind of bitter that Prometheus turned out to be some random asshole that we'd never even heard of before this episode. Talk about wasted potential.
Well, John is screwed. But we've already had a prison break episode this season, so I don't think they will put him in jail again.
I lost my faith in Arrow last season so much that I actually stopped watching it for a while, but I'm glad I came back. Season 5 has been pretty amazing so far. If they bring Laurel back, I will officially forgive the showrunners for all the bullshit they put us through. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
This show's schedule is a mess. First we get a 3-week break, then 2 episodes, and now the mid-season hiatus? Someone should get fired for this shit.
I don't really understand what Eli's plan was - I don't see how setting off an atomic bomb could be beneficial in any way. I guess we'll never know.
Robbie will return, won't he? I certainly hope so. Despite my initial reservations, I've kind of grown fond of him.
Daisy is back! Finally! I'm so glad that she's not doing the lone vigilante crap anymore. It was getting old.
Mack and Elena kissed! About damn time. And Daisy's little smirk was everything. You could tell that she was thinking of all the ways she could tease Mack about it later.
Fitz and Simmons are FitzSimmonsing again. I've missed it.
Something about this show has been bothering me for a long time, and I finally figured out what it is. It occurred to me when I saw May at Radcliffe's lab and realized that the one at SHIELD is a decoy: the writers never let the characters catch a breath. They create conflict after conflict like it's some kind of a race. The characters jump straight from one misery to another. There's no time for happiness. Every even remotely peaceful or blissful scene gets interrupted by a plot twist. Would it kill them to just let our heroes celebrate Daisy's return without something awful happening? I know that the writers have to create drama to get people to watch the show, but you need to find balance somewhere. I wish that once in a while I could watch a new episode of Agents of SHIELD and not feel like stabbing myself in the foot afterwards. I love this show. I really do. But it makes me fucking depressed sometimes. What keeps me watching is my faith that the showrunners respect and care about their characters enough to not kill them off for shock value. So far, they haven't disappointed me in that regard, but still, they should take notes from The Flash or Supergirl. Give these poor agents some hope and positivity from time to time.
Am I crying? Yes. Yes, I am. Damn it, Flash. You did it again. You managed to turn me into a sobbing mess.
First of all, what was Mark fucking Hamill doing there? I've never seen him in anything other than Star Wars, so my first thought was a horrified "L-Luke?". Amazing. It takes some serious balls to cast such an iconic actor and then have him appear in just one scene. I applaud the showrunners.
Yay, Wally got his suit. Maybe he will finally stop whining.
I can't decide if I like Julian or not. Sure, he's not a bad guy, but he can still be an asshole when he wants to be.
"One shall betray you. One shall fall. One will suffer fate far worse than death."
Fuck off, Savitar. Nobody messes with Team Flash. And stay away from Iris. We've already lost Laurel, I won't let another plant-named love interest/moral compass/badass die on my watch.
So, Caitlin can control her powers now? It would be so cool (no pun intended) if she could use them without fear of turning into Killer Frost.
Drunk H.R. is hilarious. And his little happy dance with Wally in the park was absolutely adorable.
The Flash sure knows how to do a Christmas episode. I don't get nearly as excited about Christmas as I used to, but even my cold, dead heart warmed up a little when I saw all those decorations and all the characters together and happy for once. I was afraid something would happen and the episode would end on a cliffhanger, but no. Instead we got Barry and Iris being cute and in love. Someone punch me in the face, I can't handle the feels.
So, I guess this is the mid-season finale? In that case, see you all in 2017! And early Merry Christmas wishes to all of you!
And here it is. The epic conclusion.
This was probably my favorite part of the crossover. The Flash part was a bit too rushed for my liking, and the Arrow part focused more on celebrating the 100th episode than the alien invasion. But this one? This one had it all. We got plenty of fight scenes and ass-kicking, but there were also some wonderful emotional moments.
I liked Stein's daughter drama. There was a lot of it in this episode, maybe a little too much, but it's an interesting storyline, even though I saw it coming a mile away as soon as Stein started having those visions of Lily. It's still good, though, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it's going to affect the future episodes of Legends.
Oliver's reasons for benching Kara were dumb as fuck. I firmly believe that that scene exists only because they couldn't include Melissa in most of the episode because of a scheduling conflict or some shit.
The Dominators really didn't put up much of a fight, did they? They just ran right back to their ships as soon as that bomb was destroyed. By the way, I totally forgot that Firestorm could transform things. I'm not entirely sure why they couldn't just have Kara throw the bomb back into space (come on, we all know she could easily have done that), but I guess it's because they wanted every hero to have their moment in the spotlight.
Holy shit, Kara and Felicity are similar. I can't believe I've never thought about it before. And Ray's comment about Kara looking like his cousin was a fun little reference for all the Superman fans out there.
I'm glad that Barry and Cisco are on good terms again. And Cisco and Felicity geeking out aboard the Waverider were adorable.
It's so cool that Kara can travel between dimensions now. It's sure as hell going to come in handy next year when the CW needs another bump in the ratings!
I love group hugs! Especially when it's between grumpy Oliver and two precious rays of sunshine Kara and Barry.
Kara is freaking scary when she wants to be. Damn. Never mess with this alien puppy. She'll drag you so hard you'll never get back up, and she'll do it with a smile on her face.
That little conversation between Sara and Oliver at the end of the episode was such a lovely, underrated moment. It really did start with the two of them. I've never looked at it like that.
Overall, this was an insanely satisfying crossover. I enjoyed it a lot, even though it made me feel dizzy at times, with all these characters running around, forcing me to pause the episode and do a mental count of who's who and which show they're on. I'm still bitter that Kara was the only Supergirl character to appear - Winn would've fit right in with the Geek Squad, and I wanted to see Alex and Sara kick some ass together. Maybe Digg losing his shit over J'onn being a Green Martian. Whatever. This was still fun, and who knows? Maybe next year's crossover will take place on Earth-38?
You know what the sad thing is? I didn't appreciate Laurel enough when she was on the show. This episode only reminded me what a big hole she left when she died. And damn, it made me emotional.
I actually love the "characters are in a simulation and start to realize that something's not right" storyline. This was really well-done.
I wondered where the newbies were during last night's episode. I'm not that fond of them, but I'm glad they included them here, if only for the sake of continuity.
Kara and Barry's high five in the middle of a fight was just the cutest thing ever. This is one of my favorite relationships in the Arrowverse. They are absolutely adorable together.
Holy cow, that spaceship looked freaking amazing. And I'm happy that the Waverider and Nate made an appearance. I guess we'll see everyone in the Legends part of the crossover. Maybe we'll finally get some actual alien ass-kicking.
Oh, and how could I forget? This is the 100th episode of Arrow! Congrats! It hasn't always been smooth sailing, but I'm still happy for the show. It was great to see all the characters we've lost along the way and remember how much Arrow has changed since the pilot. Some of the changes have been for the better. Some for the worse. But all in all, I still enjoy the show and episodes like this remind me why I fell in love with it in the first place.
Our favorite agents are finally back after 3 weeks, and holy shit, this episode was a masterpiece. Easily the best they've done this season, maybe even one of the best ever.
I loved the two points of view: the normal one and the weird, sepia, Instagram filter one. Showing us the scenes from two different perspectives was a genius move and made for a super intense and fascinating story.
I adore May and Coulson's relationship. I've always kind of shipped these two, but now that it's pretty obvious they're going to get together, I can barely handle my emotions. I'm really rooting for them.
We finally know what Simmons' secret mission was. I'm enjoying the way she's grown this season. She's so fierce and doesn't take shit from anyone. I wonder what that Inhuman's power is. And why was he stuck in the cocoon for 7 months? Okay, so he was scared, but somehow I don't believe that's the only reason.
I'm not going to lie, I cried like a bitch when Fitz and Simmons were reunited. My beautiful science babies. Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain de Castecker are both outstanding actors. They never fail to break my heart.
Poor Mack. Can someone please give him a hug?
Oh, and Robbie's alive! I knew it!
What the hell is Aida doing? Please, please, don't make her evil. I really like her. As much as you can like an android, that is.
Welcome to part 2 of my messy overemotional written-while-half-asleep-at-5-AM crossover review, where coherent train of thought isn't a thing and punctuation rules don't matter. Buckle up, nerds, because this was freaking wild and we've got a lot to talk about.
First of all, the Dominators and the special effects in general were insane. Especially considering that this is a CW show and not a big-budget movie. Everything looked great and the action scenes were amazing.
Every year the crossover rolls around and I get to play a fun little game called "Does person X know person Y's secret identity? Have these two characters ever actually interacted before? Who was there when that other thing happened?". You can imagine how absolutely frustrating that is for someone like me, with my attention span of a hyperactive golden retriever puppy. Those are four massive TV shows we're talking about, and they're not the only ones I watch! How am I supposed to remember if Barry and Sara have ever talked before?
The writers managed to do the impossible: practically every single character had their moment in the spotlight, which is impressive with a cast this big and only 42-minute runtime. So kudos for that. What I don't understand is why we had to listen to Wally whining for like 8 of those minutes. That was just annoying. "Why won't they let me help fight aliens?" I don't know, dumbass, maybe it's because you got your powers like 2 seconds ago and you have no training whatsoever?
I liked Oliver's speech to Barry about change and people making choices. I wholeheartedly agree. I wish the other characters would stop getting mad at Barry for Flashpoint. Yeah, he fucked up, and let's hope he finally learns from his mistakes, but it's not like the people around him haven't made some shitty decisions. Give the guy a break. I mean, how can Cisco be sure that his brother wouldn't have died in the original timeline?
Oh, and if I heard correctly, Supergirl's Earth is Earth-38? I don't know why it's important to me, but I'm happy to know that.
THE CROSSOVER IS HERE!
This was amazing. Oh my God. So many great things happened in this episode. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it all. Maybe it's because it's 5 AM here right now and I'm severely sleep deprived, but let's face it, I couldn't possibly go to school without watching Supergirl first.
And it was so, so worth it this week!
Medusa was not only a serious threat, but it also gave the writers a chance to get almost everyone involved in it, which resulted in a very focused episode. You could really feel that there was a lot at stake there. The scene where the missile exploded and J'onn prepared to be reunited with his wife was fantastic. I think I held my breath for like a minute because it was so intense.
I'm so glad that Lena is not evil. I'll be honest, she actually scared me for a minute there. I loved the way she outsmarted her mother. I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Lillian Luthor, but hey, maybe they can have some peace before her next anti-alien scheme.
Kara facing disappointment regarding her parents was a good storyline too. My beautiful alien puppy. She continues to amaze me. She's the hero we all deserve.
Mon-El kisses Kara
"Fuck this shit I'm out" plays in the background as I jump out of my chair and through the window
Yeah, I'm not even going to talk about this.
J'onn is green again! Woohoo!
It's always nice to see Eliza. And the way she said "My beautiful Alexandra" made my heart melt.
Can Alex get drunk every Thanksgiving? I find it hilarious.
Alex and Maggie are in lesbians with each other! There are legit tears of happiness in my eyes. Maggie getting injured and realizing her feelings for Alex is such a classic fanfiction trope. I absolutely love it. You can bet that I'm going to watch that scene at Alex's apartment at least 50 times, until I've memorized every breath, every word and every facial expression.
Barry and Cisco in the house! I've been waiting for this! The next 3 days are going to be epic!
Okay, raise your hand if you were surprised by the fact that Julian is Alchemy.
awkward cricket sounds
Yeah, I didn't think so. It was one of the most obvious reveals ever.
Savitar is super cool. Special effects were out of control in this episode.
I honestly laughed at Iris telling Barry that the CSI lab is his life. We hardly ever see him there. I think he'll be fine.
Wally was so happy and excited when they were testing his speed. It was adorable.
Oh, Caitlin. My beautiful baby. I really hope that they will find a way to get her powers under ontrol. I'm glad that the team didn't turn their backs on her.
Barry's confrontation with Killer Frost was such an amazing scene. It was so intense and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, even though I knew that there was no way they were going to kill Barry. Still, it definitely stood out to me.
I love Barry and Cisco's relationship. I don't want to see either of them sad. Just please, make up and be happy.
Nice Game of Thrones reference there, Cisco!
We're getting the crossover next week and I couldn't be more excited! I love big superhero team-ups!
Holy cow. Where do I start?
Guardian's storyline was pretty good. I'm glad that James finally has something to do, and his team-up with Winn is fun to watch. I absolutely loved Alex's scenes with Winn. The way she threatened him and smacked his head was hilarious. They have a wonderful brother/sister relationship.
If only I could get my hands on Lillian Luthor right now. I would cut the bitch. Nobody hits my girl!
Can Whiteboy McDullFace and Kara please not get together? Just don't do it. Come on.
Kara's message to Alex destroyed me. If I ever stop crying over the Danvers sisters, just assume I'm dead. I love them so much.
Jeremiah is alive! I mean, I guess we knew that, but it was nice to see him. I don't believe that they didn't do anything to him at Cadmus, though. They probably want us to think he's okay and then punch us in the face when we least expect it.
Some people speculated that Jeremiah would turn out to be Cyborg Superman, but I'm glad it was Hank. My sweet Alex doesn't need yet another heartbreak.
J'onn is turning into a White Martian! Oh, Space Dad. It's gonna be okay.
What the fuck is Medusa?
Alex and Maggie's storyline was, to absolutely no one's surprise, my favorite part of the episode. I totally get where Alex was coming from and Chyler Leigh did an outstanding job of channeling that mix of pain, anger and sadness. It was a very difficult situation for both characters, but I'm so happy that they were able to work it out.
Alex, my darling baby girl, my beautiful badass, love of my life. Don't worry. You will get the girl. You don't know it yet, but we do. You and Maggie are endgame.
Maggie is so obviously into Alex ("I don't want to imagine my life without you in it"? I swear, these two idiots will be the death of me). The only problem here is their bad timing, but sooner or later, they're bound to get together. And in the meantime, bring on the mutual pining, the jealousy, the lingering looks and all the cute moments that make you want to scream "Just get married already!" at your TV screen. I freaking love slowburn.
Oh, and can Maggie get her own scenes, please? You know, since she's a main character?
I'm always a sucker for Superfriends hanging out together at Kara's apartment. It brings me so much joy. More of that, please!
I loved Thea and Quentin's interactions in this episode. They have a really great father/daughter dynamic.
I'm actually starting to like Susan. Her relationship with Oliver is nice. But that drink she handed him when they met at the bar? Honey, that was not a drink. That wasn't even half a drink. I know that expensive alcohol is served in absurdly small amounts, but that was like one last sad tiny sip left at the bottom of the glass.
One thing that bothered me was that the team was in the middle of a workout when the bank robbery happened. They were all sweaty as fuck and probably didn't have time to shower, so how did they manage to get into their skintight leather outfits? That must have hurt.
That guy in the interrogation room (the DA, I think? I have terrible memory when it comes to recurring characters, so I'm not sure) was freaking scary. I'm assuming that when he said he'd been to hell, he meant that literally?
Little J.J. is adorable. That scene with the whole Diggle family was super cute.
And Evelyn is a double agent. Because of course she is. Girl, this is going to blow up in your face. I wish I could smack some sense into her right now. Who is even taking care of her? Where does she live? She's like 17. She should be doing homework, not standing broodily on rooftops and planning something shady with masked psychopaths.
This was a rollercoaster. Wow. It's hard to believe that they managed to squeeze so many plot twists and reveals into one episode.
I loved Caitlin's storyline. The one we got two weeks ago with her mom was so badly written it was laughable, but her interactions with Cisco and the rest of the team in this episode were pretty good. Cisco and Caitlin are my beautiful nerd babies and I will protect them at all costs.
I fully understand where Wally is coming from and you can hardly blame him for wanting to have powers. We'll see what will happen to him when he emerges from this weird cocoon thing.
Why do I have a feeling that Cecile's daughter will turn out to be important?
Shade was cool. It's kind of a pity that they wasted him as a decoy.
Julian is shady as fuck. There's definitely something going on with him, but I'm not sure what yet. I don't think he's Alchemy, that would be too obvious. Then again, Flash isn't exactly the most subtle show in the world, so it's possible.
Savitar looks absolutely sick, but I have no clue who he is or where he came from. Yes, I could look it up, but for me discovering what's going on along with the characters is part of the fun, so I'll just wait until they explain it on the show.
throws an Emmy at Chyler Leigh's head because somehow she manages to outdo herself every week and it's ridiculous
I didn't expect Supergirl to do a horror episode, but they actually kinda pulled it off. The scenes at the research station were sufficiently creepy. And the parasite looked really good.
Drunk Kara was absolutely adorable and hilarious.
The Guardian is fine. I liked James and Winn's interactions in this episode. Kudos to Jeremy Jordan for his angry speech at the DEO. It was amazing. And the idea to lace the suit with lead so Kara can't see inside it was pretty brilliant.
Is something going to happen to J'onn because of White Martian blood?
Well, Mon-El is dead. I mean, not really, but I can't say I'd miss his pasty annoying ass.
Now, let's get to the more emotional and less comprehensible part of this review:
Alex came out to Kara, and of course there had to be a misunderstanding, but that scene at Kara's apartment was beautiful. Everything about it was perfect, from the soft music and the warm lighting to all the acting choices. Alex talking about Maggie and calling her beautiful was just so pure and cute and it made me want to bite my hand off. You know the feeling. Don't lie to me.
AND THEN ALEX KISSED MAGGIE! I had to pause the episode and calm my racing heart. I was so excited and happy that I felt like I was about to explode. But underneath all that there was a nasty little gremlin sitting in my stomach, whispering "Maggie's gonna reject her", so I hesitated for a good minute before hitting play.
And guess what?
The gremlin was fucking right and I hate life.
Don't get me wrong. I want Alex and Maggie's relationship to develop slowly. And Maggie had a good reason for not wanting to get involved with a baby gay who's just starting to figure herself out. The calm, reasonable part of me knows that. But the far more vocal, far less logical part wants them to get together immediately.
Alex's heartbreak destroyed me. Holy shit. My poor baby. I'm sobbing because of her. The way she choked and stuttered and could barely talk... so real and completely devastating.
This might actually be my favorite episode of the season so far. I loved everything about it.
Mon-El's storyline provided some pretty hilarious moments, but there was also an important lesson for Kara in there. Just please, don't let anything romantic happen between these two. I'm starting to like their weird brother/sister dynamic.
James is finally getting his own storyline! It's about damn time. I'm glad that he has Winn helping him.
The villains were fine. Whatever. It's not like we're ever going to see them again.
Lena Luthor had some good scenes in this episode. She was totally flirting with Kara. Fight me on this. Showing up at CatCo? Biting her lip while talking to Kara? Coming to Kara's apartment? (How did she even get her address?) It was amazing. I also liked Lena and Winn working together to stop the bad guys. Lena being a casual badass is what I'm here for.
Of course Project Cadmus lady is Lena's mom. Because if someone out there hates aliens, it just has to be a Luthor. I know I said I'd be fine with Lena turning out to be evil, but now I really want her to be better than her shitty family and choose a different path.
We got some nice bonding between Kara and Alex! I adore these two. They're so wonderful together. And Alex had a punk rock phase! It's canon!
So Alex didn't realize she was gay. Huh. I thought she knew and she simply decided not to tell anyone, but the way the writers chose to deal with it on the show is actually a lot better. I feel like they handled her coming out storyline exceptionally well. That scene at the end was freaking spectacular: so real, raw and powerful. I'm losing my mind over it. I can't believe it's real. I would like to thank not only God but also Jesus for blessing me with this beautiful character arc. Chyler Leigh is a goddamn revelation. Her acting is so nuanced. And I'm obsessed with "Way down we go" by Kaleo. Any scene is better with this song in the background. That's just science. I don't make the rules.
Oh, and I knew Maggie's girlfriend wouldn't stick around for long, but I didn't expect them to get rid of her this fast. It has to be some kind of a record.
