I really hate to rate this one so low because people I respect LOVED this film. It was visually stunning. But sorry, I was only good in this world for about 10 minutes. Then I was looking for any escape.
Don't know if I would have loved this film had I not read the book on which it's based. It really was a strange mess of short clips that are supposed to take the viewer from place and time. It was difficult for my over-stimulated mind to bounce around like that. But once I settled in, it was a great ride. And the Oscar goes to Cillian Murphy...
Loved this one. I'll be humming "Tra la la" all day!
9 stars for three reasons 1) Lily Gladstone deserves an Oscar 2) The music was brilliant. RIP Robbie Robertson 3) Scorsese stayed mostly true to the book.
John Oliver recently said Apple TV+ “Where Celebrities Go To Hide”. I think in the case of this show, it's more like where celebrities show their chops. I'm constantly amazed at how far Jennifer Anniston's acting has progressed from yelling her lines on "Friends" to what she's doing here. Everyone's acting is just so good. Not a dud in the bunch. I'm so glad Apple TV is keeping these guys around for a fourth season. I can't wait.
A movie pushing every boundary of consent.
I am convinced that in the future, with hindsight, society will see this movie as a perfect example of a time when young women see the majority of young men as emotionally stunted, uneducated in the ways of the world, and socially inept. And those same women without any true autonomy over their bodies are the ones faking power and autonomy with role reversal of gabage that was despised by women only three decades earlier.
I know already. Sex is bad, and it could kill you. Can't get any more 1980s preachy than that. Plot a bit lacking, but this movie is still a bit creepy.
I had no idea I needed a black & white boy meets vampire love story tonight. But I did. Music and visuals were great in this super slow burn. I'm willing to overlook the pretentious thinking that the art house vibe would make up for the lack of real substance in an overly simple plot.
Except for Urban Meyer telling why he was permissive of off-field egregious behavior of his players. I learned nothing. This was a total softball accounting of the Gator football at that time. Overly emotional and downright sappy it played more like a love story than a look at what was perhaps the best and most controversial college football team ever to exist.
This is clearly a Hollywood story created by and meant for white people. It's fiction portrayed as a feel-good story and not one of white saviorship. But the acting here is better than average. And it works exactly as producers designed. So that receives some stars from me. Hopefully Hollywood has grown in the last 14 years and wouldn't make this movie today.
I'm not blind to this being a fictionalized account of real people. I hope Michael Oher gets his day in court and he and his children receive all past due financial successes equal (plus penalizes and interest) to that of the Tuohys for telling this story.
Pretty much a stupid concept with an annoying host yet I've watched the entire thing because for some stupid reason I'm fascinated. The cakes are amazing!
Crap. PTSD of Christmases past. It's not Christmas until someone cries.
More "Gilligan's Island" than "Castaway" but not nearly as funny. And I usually like Dick Van Dyke pratfalls and humor.
Went into the finale so hoping for a change from the book's ending. Nope. Just as mediocre and uneventful as the book. Blah. What a waste.
Gutted to learn of the passing of Jock Zonfrillo. Don't know how it'll be to watch the entire season knowing he's no longer with us. My heart breaks for his family.
I always love a theme restaurant.
Olivia Colman is awesome. Too bad her performance can't save this truly mediocre film.
I'll reuse my review for "Spencer".....A visually stunning piece of garbage...Maybe only bright spot in this entirely torturous and long movie is some really fine acting. Ana de Armas gives a nearly perfect performance. Her occasional slips in accent is quite jarring only because because the rest is so good. If you didn't hear it you should rewind to where she says something about being the blonde in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Ugggh so frustrating these weren't corrected. Adrian Brody gives a good performance. But the real shout outs go to Julianne Nicholson and Lily Fisher. Too bad the movie didn't live up to their fabulous performances. 2 hours and 47 minutes of my life I will never get back.
A lousy movie with bad subject matter overshadowing some amazingly realistic and solid acting performances.
Not the best movie but still visually beautiful and entertaining noir.
Ok I get it.. a Russian doing a German accent in English. But it's just sooooo terrible and annoying that I'd give her money to just shut the hell up.
Dramedy is such an odd choice for this true story. Will Farrell and Paul Rudd are just excellent. However, the story showing the breakdown of trust between patient and physician is just too overwhelming to enjoy their performances. It might have been more successful as a horror story.
A visually stunning piece of garbage.
Not sure I've ever watched a show get this much better as it goes on. Also I don't think I ever knew that Jennifer Anniston can really act. Glad I stuck around for season 2. So good.
