Hilariously, this is not a political film.
Coming from a background in photography and art, I appreciated the cinematography a lot. It felt like they looked right at me and said these shots are for you. Additionally, I was proud of Jessie becoming a photojournalist as the film went on. She started as enthusiast but as the movie went on you could see her learning and becoming more hardened. I also appreciated that she was shooing on film. So many moments in the film I could feel myself seeing the "right shot" and while Jessie missed some of them, she also got them too, especially at the end where she becomes actualized.
As someone with an education in psychology, I also really appreciated the film's portrayal of the artist. Both in Lee and Jessie. One dying as one, and the other becoming one. The changes in both of their mindsets and reactions to the events they encounter were interesting and I loved that there were small moments where the two of them got to reflect and contrast each other.
As a fellow viewer, I don't think this isn't for the lighthearted. I watched this not knowing anything about the film and walked out really impressed but also knowing that many people were not going to like this movie. Most of my friends were less enthusiastic about the film. Unfortunately the film was marketed to be more political, violent, and action adventure-y. It's not. It's gory, dramatic, and introspective. I warn people that this film is about war journalism and being an artist. The people behind me may have appreciated a warning like that because they were mostly bored throughout the film and gave the movie a lower score than I - and I can't blame them. It was not an action movie. But for those who seek the stories of the human condition, this was a masterpiece.
Terribly human, for good and bad, Civil War does not shy away from the message it’s trying to portray. The military action sequences are some of the best I’ve ever experienced, and in IMAX each gunshot rang in my ears.
The music was anxiety inducing, even during the calm moments, we feel the characters stress and emotions.
Fantastic film. I wish there was more explanation and world building so we knew why the country was in this state, but I understand the directors decision not to muddy the waters of what he wanted to say.
wow. I have been a long life fan of Nia Long. This movie is making me rethink my life choices. It was poorly written and the acting was so transparent. Even though I've never seen the movie before I was seeing lines before they did. Terrible. I only gave it to one because there wasn't an option. I guess that's what happens when you need money in Hollywood. Nia you can do better than that girl!
I'm old enough to remember the original Hellraiser (1987). That was a true horror film. There were horrible people, doing horrible things. It left you feeling really quite disturbed about the worst aspects of human nature.
The follow-up Hellraiser 2 (1988) managed to recapture a small part of that. But after that it was downhill fast. The sequels were nothing but parodies.
Well, for some reason, Hulu decided to remake it.
Shamefully, the film fails on nearly every level. It's not well written (terrible dialogue) and poorly acted. There's little horror and you simply do not care about anyone or anything happening in it. It doesn't give you a reason to care either. The Cenobites are not scary, or grotesque looking... they just look like cheap make-up and some bad CGI.
Like the later Hellraiser films It has more in common with trashy slasher flicks than anything else. Poorly done ones at that.
As is common today they gender-switched the main role. Did it add anything? Nope. In fact, I keep hearing about what a good performance Jamie Clayton was as The Priest. I don't know what they were watching. There isn't a performance, it's literally all make up and some lines read out flat. Look at the originals: Pinhead's character is all about small, slow movements and looming dread. He's literally an overwhelming threat and you are the prey. Not in this one though.
Or look at the secondary villain. In the original it's Uncle Frank, who is an awful person who fully deserves his fate. Even in the end as he's pulled apart by the Cenobites... he's drawn to it, and much as he tried to run he still wants what the Cenobites offer. In this new version... there's none of that same grimy, disturbing look into subcultures. It's all clean, boring and badly acted.
Watch Hellraiser (1987) and Hellraiser 2 (1988) and stop there. They did it better on much smaller budgets.
I feel like I don't want to be too harsh on this film but I have to be sadly....
Boring. Slow. Uninvested. Unoriginal.
A very slow and predictable plot. Uninspiring turn from Tommy Lee Jones, who phones in his performance with all the class of a 1980s Motorola cell phone! I couldn't have cared less about whether this father/son relationship had any development. Why? Because Brad Pitt's character is also boring. He's a machine - we get that spelled out to us several times.
Now... Brad Pitt acts well. The visuals are good - but in a world of Interstellar and Gravity, they're underwhelming.
I liked the view of Moon travel. That's the only positive.
For a 2 hour film though, it felt like 3. That's a bad sign for any film. I'll be avoiding this one when I see it advertised on TV.
I'm settling on 5/10 because of Brad Pitt's performance and some of the visuals (particularly the Moon). But I could have gone as low as 3/10 or 4/10 based on my mood leaving the cinema!
Like a meal at 5 Guys: Good but forgettable.
A bit of a nothing burger, it doesn’t really get interesting until the final 20-30 minutes.
There are a few entertaining bits inbetween (e.g. there’s a fun scene with Paul Rudd in a Wallmart), but there’s not nearly enough going on.
It’s just mostly bland: some decent acting and directing, but there’s not a lot of action, mystery, charm, clever comedy, drama or characters to get invested into (besides McKenna Grace).
For example, Finn Wolfhard gets as much development as the older brother from Jurassic World, he’s a teen and he wants to get laid. That’s all you get, and it’s not that interesting.
There are, of course, a lot of ‘member berries, which add nothing besides empty nostalgia.
The original Ghostbusters leave the biggest impression with just 5 minutes of screentime, and they clearly didn’t even give a shit about being there.
It’s not the worst thing ever, but this falls short of the benchmark for this kind of movie.
Just watch the original, or anything directed by Spielberg and Cameron in the 80s/90s.
5/10
I don’t understand why this had to be made...

The movie started nice but it turned to a garbage towards the end. Hot Kate Beckinsale is the reason you would watch without blinking an eye. That's it.
Mia Goth playing Maxine and Pearl is just absolute insanity, and I am here for it.
A time travel movie where there’s no time travel until the last 20 minutes. It’s a bad movie for other reasons too, but that really seals it.
So Dennis Miller at some point utters the line ...........I feel like I'm in a bad episode of Tales From The Crypt!
I wanted to like this movie but fuck man, there were scenes I was into and stories I wanted to see resolved that never went anywhere or just abruptly ended. I'm someone who when I watch movies a lot of times I also have to do other things as well, so I really tend to dislike movies that are "English" but half the movie is also in another language. This movie jumps from english to french to russian on the fly, and the russian parts feel like they dominated the whole third act. By the end of the movie I didn't know what the hell even happened in this story.
This was a genuinely charming film. The children are the star of the show. They have great comedic timing and deliver their lines like pros. Connelly is great as ever. He's basically just playing himself dying.
Whoever else said this felt like a TV show, I agree. Felt like a really long episode of series about family centered drama with funny moments, like this is us. Or party of five.

Movie about a white kid that looks like Jack Harlow lite, fitting in with black people, and being accused as a snitch. Would have been better if the kid could act. I heard about this because of what a great performer this new kid was. He sucks.

This was one of the better WWE cartoons. Had some funny moments. But I fast forwarded through a good half of it.

Surprisingly good genre flick. It's nothing new or novel but I expected a lot less. Cast was good except the best friend character. He was too over the top. The actor didn't feel like a genuine character.
Reminds me of Attack The Block meets Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

This should have been average horror reboot faire. It became a good bad movie when it kept getting so over the top and super non sensical writing. A waste of Brian Tyree Henry’s talent.

Decent romcom. I'm an Illiza fan, so I'm a little bias. I will say tho, the moral part of the story was a little shallow. It came across as "don't judge pretty people as vapid and disposable, they're actually human underneath, but if you meet a weirdo, they're probably a weirdo". Being that it's a movie about her life, the weirdo part is fine because it's part of her real story. But the schlocky scene where the two pretty blondes stop being fake to each other felt shoehorned in and counter to the main theme of the film.

I love broad city and I love when actors make unexpected movie choices. So I threw this on immediately. It's definitely watchable and some interesting writing options but it's ultimately an average genre flick. The acting was ok but Iliana felt out of place. It was hard separating her from her comedy personality but if this were played more for laughs, it would have worked better. If she keeps acting she can improve, but I'd prefer to see her in comedies.

Probably the stupidest movie I've ever seen.
There are some really funny parts in between the mess. It's totally watchable though. I would just bring some edibles beforehand.

Finally getting around to see this. While it is a good movie, for me it suffers by being about "The Joker".
If it was an origin story where he was going to join the DCU then I'd be all for it. But as a stand alone film, it didn't need to be about that character. It could have stood on it's own.

If you’re a huge fan of the comic book, like I am, you will be severely disappointed if you had hopes this was good.
It’s not just the movie itself. The characters are nothing like the book.
