As of February 2020, the director of the original film, Vincenzo Natali, is rumored to be directing this film, touted as a reboot. I have to agree with the other commenter, however. This film might not be, at least certainly not any time soon, given current events.
In other news, a Japanese remake of the original movie has been filmed and will be released around October of this year.

@otamajakushi Just watched the Japanese remake. It's not great.

If you plan to watch this because everyone keeps saying how this film is "different" from MCU films, stop right here.
That's a false advertisement. It's not a "black and white monster film from the '40s". Werewolf by Night is an MCU film through and through. There's nothing "different". Let me list:
- Kind-hearted protagonist with hidden powers
- A reluctant badass jerk secondary character with a heart of gold
- Enemies die easily after such a menacing buildup ("Your kill count is 57!? Amazing!" then proceeds to die in one hit in the next scene)
- Quips
- Clumsy character doing clumsy physical jokes
- Scary creatures having average American name (Eldritch horror named Ted? Ha ha so funny 420/10 will laugh again - yeah I know it's Ted Sallis, but they could've went with something less in your face if they wanted to actually wanted to nail the horror theme, like, I don't know, Dr. Sallis? Theodore?)
- Characters somehow bonded in very short span of time
- Convenient solution to every problem as the plot requires it ("oh look a key in a tomb!" "oh monster can kill enemies in one hit!")
And those are just from the top off my head. Sure you can find more if you're observant.
Well, sure Werewolf by Night is dressed in black and white but that's about it. It's a gimmick. It's not even trying to capture the essence of classic black and white films The Artist (2011) did it or build the atmosphere like Sin City (2005) did it. People saying this film is "different" from MCU needs to get their eyes checked and watch more films.
If you just wanted to watch an MCU, sure you get what you asked. But if you expected more, then whatever you heard about this film is a big fat hoax.

@xaliber Very cynical look at this film. I think that, just because that is the takeaway from a large group of viewers, it doesn't necessarily mean that was the intent of the filmmakers.
I look at it more as a mash-up. Taking two genre's and making a marriage between two styles. We all know what Marvel movies try to be, but they're really NOT that much different from what's done in the comics.
I mean, opinion on effects notwithstanding, people complain about the She-Hulk show, and yet, I don't feel the tone and storylines are much different from the 90's comic.
For this, they took a concept from the old Marvel days and brought it to the screen with modern effects.
Sometimes it's ok to enjoy something and not look for the bad in it. Especially when you know the formula already. I check my expectations at the door for anything MCU related because it's NEVER going to live up to the hype for some people.
Temper expectations and you will enjoy these things much more.
I hope the Marvel movie and TV era lives on for a long time. Especially when we get these niche side projects that my young comic loving eyes could never dream of seeing them.

A time travel movie where there’s no time travel until the last 20 minutes. It’s a bad movie for other reasons too, but that really seals it.

@caitlincl I'm half way through and preparing the rope to hang myself...
This was an extremely interesting movie. I don't know that I'd categorize it as a comedy, although there were certainly some funny things said/done. It's more of a window into the realities of life and how people handle them. I'm not sure if there's a genre that encompasses movies like that.
I enjoyed a) that it was set in the UK, b) really great acting, especially from the kids...they were very natural, and c) a completely fresh and innovative story (there are so many remakes out there because apparently everyone's out of ideas). The behavior of the adults, and strength and matter-of-factness of the children in the movie caused me several moments of reflection. I actually found add downloaded this app only because I wanted a way to remember this movie long-term.

@misawamandi I think the category this would fall under is "dramedy" or dark comedy.

VIP3wow. I have been a long life fan of Nia Long. This movie is making me rethink my life choices. It was poorly written and the acting was so transparent. Even though I've never seen the movie before I was seeing lines before they did. Terrible. I only gave it to one because there wasn't an option. I guess that's what happens when you need money in Hollywood. Nia you can do better than that girl!

This was not well done. I watched this because I listed to the podcast The Dropout. If you really want an in depth dive into this story, skip the movie and do the podcast.

VIP12I really thought this movie did a great job at telling the story that is Motley Crue. I remember when the car wreck happened, I remember when Nikki died and I remember how controversial they were. The 80's were a crazy time and this movie did a great job at representing those excesses. I would highly recommend it.

Sorry folks but this one didn't go well for Marvel. I don't even know where to start. Acting was average, more like below average. Screenplay was as much ordinary as it could be. No surprise here. CGI was OK but it's somehow expected from Marvel. But I totally didn't like the idea of Wakanda. Hidden city in the center of Africa with tons of technology and advanced weapons and systems and so on. But how the hell did they build all of that? No explanation. It just happened. Yes, they have Vibranium, but they don't sell it. In fact they never did and for whole world they are just a bunch of shepherds and farmers. So where did they take all that money to build empire like this? I don't like movies without explanations and this is one of them. Almost nothing has been told about Vibranium whatsoever. Oh yeah, it's some super thing from the universe capable of anything. That's all the explanation you get. There are too many clichés we have already seen too many times. And we have to see them again. One example: I challenge someone for a fight because I want to kill him. And when I have the chance to kill him, what would I do? Kill him or throw him down from the cliff to the water where he can survive? But enough. If you hesitate if to watch this, I can recommend not to waste your time. Wait for the Avangers where you can also see the Black Panther. You won't miss anything if you miss out this movie.

@hlava If you're a Marvel fan, you have to watch it, but I did feel like I was let down by the way that the film was over sold when it came out. I would have liked this more before all the hype, but because I saw it late, the hype blew it for me and it couldn't possibly live up to the expectations.
