This episode just exist to spoiled you about The Sopranos, so with you never watched and want to watch Sopranos, be warned.
If Fez doesn't make it through this season I swear I'm gonna lose it
"I just feel like I'm not getting a clear direction for this role."
Two episodes in, and I still feel like this season is too busy juggling multiple subplots. Black Noir's line I quoted above seems apt to describe these first two episodes.
The few arcs they're developing do seem promising. We get a glimpse of A-Train wrestling with his conscience, Ryan struggling with his humanity amidst the narcissistic supe circles led by his dad, and The Deep trying to exert some power over his Vought overlords. The Frenchie romance drama is also heading somewhere, although it often feels like any storyline involving Frenchie veers off on its own tangent with no direct link to the main plot.
Pacing, however, is the more glaring issue. With so many subplots they're knitting there's no clear "hook" to indicate what's going to drive this season. It lacks both the intensity and mystery they had in Season 2 (exploding head menace and court drama against Vought) and Season 3 (Soldier Boy and the quest for ultimate weapon against Homelander).
It feels like sequences happen just to justify character development—for instance, the scene with Splinter (the body multiplier guy) feels forced, given that The Boys are held back by such a mid-level supe when they've taken down Translucent before. The whole Sister Sage escapade, attempting to portray her as the smarter character, relies on dumbing down the heroes. As Sage said, do The Boys really think she wouldn't figure out they're tapping their phone? So much for infiltration, MM.
It also feels like the last two episodes have been quite tacky. It's as if the show is self-aware that its audience unironically mirrors the people the show is mocking, so now they have to spend two episodes explicitly highlighting how ridiculous those people are—e.g., the lines between Frenchie and Kimiko mocking the Truthcon participants. It just feels very on the nose and lacks the cleverness that they had before. Even the whole theatrics on "rescuing people from the badguys" (saves) no longer has its cynical wittiness, despite the scene being one important plot point to drive Ryan's character forward.
Oh well. At least Black Noir is funny. And I share his sentiment. Let's hope we're getting some direction in Episode 3.
This is 'True Detective' in name only. Would have enjoyed it much more if they didn't use the name for blantly marketing purposes only.
I'm not saying production value is my favourite thing this season, but jesus the lighting, the fog and the smoke in this episode is so breathtaking
Willow: It's horrible! That's me as a vampire? I'm so evil and... skanky. And I think I'm kinda gay.
Buffy: Willow, just remember, a vampire's personality has nothing to do with the person it was.
Angel: Well, actually... That's a good point.
LOL
Thank god they announced a renewal yesterday. Living with that suspense until it was official would be sheer torture!!
when are we giving bill hader every single emmy out there jw
I totally understand that a lot of time, effort, and emotional energy would have been invested in the pregnancy reveal, but the reality is it didn't work. They should have cut it and found another way.
(To be more specific, the way it played out in a physical sense just didn't make any logical sense; as an actor she had to wait for the action—the movement and sound—to end before she could speak, or neither we nor the people she's speaking to hear her, but it makes no sense for her to do that IRL, of course, because once she realised everyone was looking at her she would not have revealed this information.)
Poor casting choice for the roles of Charles’ left and right ear.
I thought the social commentary was too... fluffy. Also, kind of ironic coming from Apple.
I enjoyed that more than the entirety of season 2. Having the main characters back together seems to be a key ingredient, and the focused nature of this episode helped too. I hope this bodes well for the rest of the season.
"How fucked up should the next kills be?"
"Yes"
Somebody please explain this entire season to me like I'm a five year old?
George doesn’t have anywhere close enough training to be taking out all these damn people. That’s ridiculous
Can’t believe this rookie is playing everyone like a fiddle.
“Who is this”? The man was just in your house lol
Again with the, George is somehow John fucking Wick now. Taking out Russian agents too :man_facepalming_tone3:
Well that ending really made it interesting again like a while new show from now on. He does know he can never be with Sarah now right? Unless shes going on the run with him
this is C̶i̶n̶e̶m̶a̶ T̶e̶l̶e̶v̶i̶s̶i̶o̶n̶ S̶t̶r̶e̶a̶m̶i̶n̶g̶ Art
I have to say that Koba really hurts the show for me. He's too much of an over the top character (a mix between Borat and the German DJ 'Scooter') and doesn't fit in. He's a bit of a comic villain in an otherwise grounded show. It's not easy to live to the quality of this show though. There are so many strong actors/characters in this show. Luan, Ed, Sean, Marian and Billy are all outstanding in my opinion. Still a fantastic episode.
Solid Roman Roy impression! Didn’t know they got HBO in Westeros?!
A pretty good episode in an average season. Almost lost me with the Jersey Devil stuff but worked out alright by the end. I'm over the young Colin Robinson character though.
I guess they think we were so dumb that we didn’t pay attention to the fact that the dogs stayed right by his side at all times. I guess we’re supposed to think that he forgot to call for his attack dogs while he was being mercilessly beaten. Every bit of rest of this was very good, but that he would not think to simply whistle and stop the attack, and avoid being restrained, and avoid being forced into custody – I just can’t abide.
Never noticed until this rewatch that Sara Bareilles was in the Kindey Now gang. Girls5eva collab foreshadowing :joy:
The kittens and the worm were a really nice touch. (Badumnts)
The time travel is easier to believe than how clueless everyone is about George.
How is George all of a sudden an expert of everything? Ann these experts are basically idiots. Did Sky hire writers from The CW?
14 year gap and she still has the same perfect hair
This is not good. I really enjoyed first two seasons. But this is ridiculous. I understand they building up to a Dory as a cult leader or something along the lines. But this is so poorly written unbelievable waste of time. I was selling this show to my friends but I’m would advise not to waste time with it. It’s cartoonish. Which might have been the goal. But there’s no substance to the cartoonish mess.
This show is amazing and so important.
It's really hard to make you feel shocked and good about a scene at the same time, and this show making it every episode. The fusion of the music or an absurd sentence in the peak of really amotional event is a little magic, every time.
