The combination of extreme realism and violent digital cinematography makes this an otherworldly unsettling experience unlike anything else. I am amazed and disturbed.
The final scene here is everything. After being adamently rejected by Melfi, Tony wants to reach out to Carmela for support, but doesn't even know where to start. As he is standing idly, Carm assumes her usual kitchen role and Tony, in response, takes his place at the table. The two are so close yet so far away from each other. Conditioned to do and to say what gets them through each day, but emotionally neutered by that very same conditioning. They're trapped in their prison palace, and as Tony asks Carm to sit with him at the table, no conversation is struck; she simply rifles through their mail.
