Good little story with some deeper meaning. It can be very cruel and disturbing as it shows on the unnecessary suffering of Carrie.
A chilling classic horror/drama with the atmosphere of the 70's. An adaptation of a Stephen King's novel and directed by Brian De Palma that tells the story of Carrie a girl that is bullied in school and psychologicaly and physical abused by her christian fanatic mother.
I found some Hitchcock's elements in the film and I can see that De Palma was influenced by his works, particularly in some of the camera work and in the music score.
Another really interesting thing is the ending, now I understand where many others came up with that idea! This ending is one of the most used endings in horror/terror films! You'll understand when you see it.
Sissy Spacek is great as Carrie very creepy and believable. Piper Laurie is also amazing playing Carrie's fanatic mother.
This year will be released the remake of this film with Chloe Grace Moretz in the role of Carrie and Julianne Moore as her mother, I'm interested to know how it will be.
Carrie is an incredibly dated horror film, but it also remains an incredibly relevant story despite this. The shocks and attempts at surprise are largely jump scares that don't work as well anymore, yet the film has become a somewhat different kind of horror film as a result. Right from the beginning, the title character cuts an incredibly sympathetic figure and the cruelties and humiliations endured by her at school makes it easy to identify with her. But the underlying themes of bullying and cruelty and the repressed rage and anger that Carrie's abilities represent, together with the religious extremism that she suffers at home is equally a stark reminder of how society can create its own monsters that can explode into violence at any given moment and the filmmakers wisely don't hold back and attempt to lessen the impact of this nor do they attempt to justify Carrie's revenge - everyone and anyone is affected by Carrie's reaction, regardless of how they had behaved towards her. It doesn't take much to see the links with modern day real-life violence carried out by disturbed individuals and the film asks its audience to consider difficult questions as a result.
Normally I like all kind of animation movies but I watched Coco at plane, 12 hour-long flight and the death theme was really disturbing when you are 12.000 miles high lol
I'm simply IN LOVE with this movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't stop crying! Oh Pixar, you're GENIUS
Beatiful chant to the greatness of family and remembrance and respect of the elder people.
If you forget them, in your heart and your memory, they will die.
Very convenient for a cineforum.
Quite entertaining despite all the bad reviews. Critics are just tired of Jack Sparrow I think. They are not tired of Fast and Furious movies though ?
The movie is fun and better than the 4th one. Kaya Scodelario makes a good addition as Carina Smyth. Who gets either confused as a witch or...a whore because she's a horologist lol. There's plenty of humor like that throughout that makes this one of the better Pirates movies.
While Javier Bardem once again makes a great villain as Captain Salazar. Who from the trailers you probably figured out, is a spirit wants vengeance on Jack Sparrow.
Otherwise stuff, like the search for Poseidon's Trident is as silly as the search for the fountain of youth in the last film. Also don't expect too much Orlando Bloom but it's nice to see him back nevertheless.
If this is the last one I wouldn't complain since it's a fitting ending.
I went to the cinema expecting another dissapointing movie but was very suprised to notice I was laughing all the time and trying to find out the plot. Really enjoyable movie with great acting.
I'm a sucker for a good impromptu musical number, and there are a couple here. I like that it's a self-aware romantic comedy that doesn't subvert the rules of the rom-com but revels in them.
Ended up loving this way more than I did the original. Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel were fabulous, and most of the songs were easily, annoyingly stuck in my head-and I didn't mind it at all!
Very good remake of the Original classic from 94 and yes the story is exactly the same but that's not necessarily a bad thing. A new generation gets introduced to this amazing story and for those like me who grew up with the original it's nostalgia overkill! So everybody wins. Btw the animation is just gorgeous.
It started so good.... and then it got so clichéed and bad :( They could have done it a way too show them as sociopaths (because I suspect they were), and made them slowly have to deal with the consequences. Anyway, I was fine with dealing with the romance part (oh no! i have feelings!) and predictable love story... But was the car crash thing necessary? It seemed sooo contrived. Besides, I feel like he never got enough punishment... Yes he changed but he was still an asshole in the first part of the movie, so pushing the fault over to the sister in the end seemed really cheap! So I really LOVED the first part (manipulation, adressing double standards re. sexism and a lil of the racism that a lot of rich white people have) and then it sorta ended pftttttttttttttt.... They should've played up that "thriller" part, it had potential!
Fun movie. Just a nice rom-com about a tall girl (which, coming from Europe, really isn't THAT tall). Jodi is a very likable character, she and her best friend Dunkleman kind of carry this movie. Plotwise it's very predictable but in this genre I really don't mind.
I had a good sunday evening watching this.
Very cute movie. Not spetacular, but it delivers what it promises. The only thing I didn't like was the sourcerss... kinda far-fetched.
Pretty average plot, the main duo were cute enough to carry the film.
I for one am living for the Netflix Christmas Cinematic Universe
More of a thriller than horror but it's great. Elisabeth Moss is really good at playing an unstable woman. The action is awesome and shot well. The plot has a few shocking moments.
It starts of pretty well, but then it gets better and better. There are a few places where the logic is a bit thin (not saying it doesn’t make sense, but you have to give it some leeway), and there are a few too many comedic touches for my taste, but other than that, this is a terrific film, powered by an Oscar worthy Elizabeth Moss (who won’t get nominated of course, because it’s not that type of film) and a talented director who will have Hollywood producers begging at his door after making this for a mere 7 million.
8/10
