Simple rating: 5.5/10 Just a little above average compared to 5/10 of the first film.
Explaination of rating: (It's long)
Once again, this film delivers nothing of real value. The only good thing about this movie is the acting and cinematography and even that is too much sometimes.. There's no reason to care for any faction, any character, or any history. They just tell you something and expect you to like it. Like the prophesy thing, how many times I hear "prophesy. it's the prophesy!" But why do I care about a prophesy I never even heard until Paul "fulfilled" it?
Okay, let me try to organize my thoughts more before continuing.
Story:
There's no real history with any character. It's like reading a history book, they tell you some history but they don't give you a reason to care about it. The messiah figure, the mom becoming the reverend mother with a talking baby, the romance, none of it gave you a reason to care. I'll list some examples. Chani and Paul had zero chemistry the entire film. Nothing about their relationship felt real.
The mom gets a baby to talk to but there's no reason to care about it. The baby is apparently hyper-intelligent even though fetuses don't have fully developed brains but why do we care if she can talk? Paul becomes aware of his mom being the daughter of Baron, but again, why do we care? He's a meaningless bad guy with no interesting qualities. Not to mention, he dies that same film along with Paul's cousins. And Paul's acceptance as a Fremen felt forced. Of course some believed he was a messiah but the ones that didn't just up and decided to befriend him because he helped them a few times. And Paul riding the worm had zero build-up to it. It was just like "you could die" then he does it immediately. Why do we care when it was just given to him? Oh! And why did they trust his mom to be the Reverend Mother anyway? She's an outsider who they knew was from a faction that manipulates people but they just said "sure!"?.. Also, when Paul takes the water and there's that fight with Chani and his mom. I literally laughed as Chani left because it was some serious moment and the repetitive operatic song just comes out blaring lol. And the fight scenes were just so underwhelming. The only interesting one was the fight between Paul and Austin's character but even then, there's no reason to care about Austin's character. I'm not even going to get into the worthless amount of dialogue...
Characters: There was no character that was actually interesting. Paul was generic, Chani was meaningless, Stilgar was the most interesting but overall just a zealot, Baron was a waste of a bad guy who just dies, the emperor was a meaningless character, Bautista's character was a joke of a character who just dies immediately in combat, Austin Butler's character was a random inclusion who, again, is just there to die in the end, I could go on.
Back to Paul, his sudden change from humilty to "leadership" was just weird. I get the water of "life" changed him up but it feels worthless to his character to have him immediately change his entire character traits like that.
And to speak of the villains again. Bautista was a literal joke, an embarrassment. Not his acting, but his character. He dies immediately in his fight with Gurney which gives Gurney's little scene zero emotion behind it.
Austin Butler's character is shown half-way in the film but again, he's just a generic psycho with no interesting detail. Who then dies just like the other's in the end. No history, nothing of value. He just randomly kills people (I guess cause he's supposed to "look menacing") and then gets killed.
Last thoughts:
Movie was too long, too lame, too uninteresting. Very average movie but a little better than the first.
Anything that could've been interesting was ruined by the lack of history, lack of development, and the lack of characters to care for. I literally paused the movie half way through and took a nap out of boredom.
Like I said with the first movie, they should've split this movie in half and gave us four films of higher quality storytelling. First film: giving us more actual history with the empire and the Houses. Giving Paul, his dad and mom, the mentor and best friend, and the bald white guys actual character history and to show us why we should like/hate them. Then the ending being the destruction of the House of Atreides. Second film: Goes through Paul and his mom going through the desert and learning more about the Fremen then eventually allying with them. Third film: Showing how the war rages and shows how Paul befriends the Fremen and becomes one of them. While also giving more depth to how his mom becomes the Reverend Mother. And giving Bautista a better role as a bigger threat who can eventually be casted aside as a failure by Baron. Fourth film: Shows the Empire's reaction to this crisis and how Paul slowly changes from his humility to the "leader" we see in the end of Dune 2. While giving Austin Butler's character an actual character and not some one episode villain. That would've been the best way to handle this series but nope, cram everything together in two films and call it a day.
Rating: 5/10.
Explaination for rating here:
This series throws you into a universe with no knowledge of it and expects you to care for it and love the characters. Even the history it does give you is just dialogue galore. The factions, this "messiah", the freman, None of them have any sense of interesting history. They give you nothing to care for the characters, the dad just lives and dies, Paul is just there.. the villain is just a generic alien thing, etc. Nothing about this story is interesting. And the only actual development any characters make is at the end of the film, and it's barely there. It's like I watched an entire movie for 2 scenes, The kingdom being destroyed and Paul meeting and allying with the Fremen. Nothing else was actually relevant to the story in terms of actual progression and interest.
The movie feels like a Zack Snyder film with how much slow-mo and hyper focus on useless things it has. "Look at this big ship, it looks cool, right?!" "Look at this room, it looks interesting, right?!" No.
Don't get me started on the unnecessary length of the film either.. One of the few movies that I actually felt like going to sleep to.
I will give props to casting thought they feel meaningless as the characters are non-existent.
Maybe, MAYBE, if they split this film in half. Gave ACTUAL history with the characters and universe, giving them a proper time for you to know them, ended the first film on the destruction of the kingdom. Then started the second with Paul and his mom in the desert doing their thing until they meet with the Fremen. I could then possibly give this film a 6 or higher but based on what we have. It's an average film pretending to be a masterpiece. 5/10.
The movie overall is pretty average, 6/10. There's nothing special or really interesting about the film except the quality of the animation.
The artstyle is great except for the characters. The most normal looking one's are Leo, April, Donatello, and Superfly. Other characters range from adnormal to pretty ugly and uncanny (mostly the humans ironically).
The plotline is very basic and straightforward. Turtles want to be liked, they meet an April that doesn't fear them, they become heroes to become liked, fail at beating main villain, look like bad guys, beat villain, now liked. Very generic line.
The villains feel generic. For corporation it's "make mutant weapons" and for the mutants it's "kill humans cause they don't like us". And their reasoning blows too. "Some humans hated us so we'll kill all of them". Most of the villains didn't have interesting characteristics either.
The MC's were very generic as well. All 5 of them had the same exact goal, no differentiating personalities, and had the exact same humor. Raph's rage was non-existent (they speak of rage but it's just word alone, nothing shows rage), Donatello's intellect was barely there, Mikey barely feels like the chill brother like he usually is, and Leo doesn't show the maturity he usually does. Not to mention, the glasses on Donny, why do people make nerds wear glasses? Especially when they're Mutant ninja?
And Mondo Gecko feels more like Mikey than Mikey does. And like lack of actually being Ninja annoyed me, I get you wanted them to be more teenagery but you tossed Ninja away.
And speaking of teenagery. They felt more like children than teenagers. They're jokes and reactions felt like Tiktok children.
As for humor, it's not really great. Very few jokes made me chuckle, some made no sense in the moment (Like Donny saying they didn't know the BTS song when Leo was singing every word.), and other's are just, like I said before, Tiktok humor. "No rizz", the twerking, and stuff were all just trying to appeal to Tiktok humor and failing. And I noticed all of the humor was just the turtles talking in unison as well. It happened so many times that it felt so repetitive.
My review for Fallout Season 1. Obvious spoilers.
Will have the summary, then pros list, then cons list.
Summary (p.s. it's long.) This show may be a 10/10 for me honestly. I'm not trying to be bias or a Fallout fanboy but when I tell you that I never got bored of this show or never felt something didn't belong, it's true. I tried desperately to write a con that would drop the rating but I honestly couldn't find anything.
All of the storylines blended perfectly, all of the characters were interesting, the directors respected the lore (Massive plus, especially coming from a Halo fanboy... We know what happened with our show..), and the ending just brought it all together beautifully. I found myself on the edge of my seat with the mystery of Vault 31-33, I was saddened by the Ghouls past, interested in how Maximus would end up with his confliction between the BoS and Lucy, and invested to see how Lucy reacts to the harsh reality of the wasteland. Not to mention, the overwhelming brutality and realism of the wasteland. Amazing stuff. Anything less than a 8/10 is a crime imo.
Pros:
First episode was (hopefully not bias) pretty much perfect. Perfectly matches the vibe of the games, the characters set-up are interesting, Brotherhood of Steel storyline starting off great, and the raiders sequence was pretty much perfect.
The biggest plot twist is the Paladin in Power Armor just flipping out when a bear attacks him. Absolutely hilarious.
Once again, amazing action sequences.
The little bit of backstory for The Ghoul is a great parellel for who he is now. He wanted to be a hero who didn't break but became a bounty hunter who kills without mercy.
Just gotta say, Maximus stands on business..
Wow, this show really shows no mercy so far. Annabel losing her eye, Wilzig losing his leg, then life, Maximus losing a tooth for caps, and now the Ghoul lost his finger and instantly cut Lucy's finger off in revenge. Really well done showing how much you can lose in the Wasteland.
I am loving Norm's storyline with the vaults. Especially after the Overseer gave 32 a "make over". The aura around that scene is amazing.
Once again, another Vault, more interesting stories. But that's how vaults always been.
NV references is always a win.
I love the parallel of Thaddeus hoping for the death of Ghouls in the beginning to inevitably becoming one. It's honestly a hilarious bit of karma there.
I adore how Maximus' character is going. He's stuck between to sides, the Brotherhood and the side that's right (Lucy for the most part). His actions depend on who he favors at the time and who would give him the home he desires. But ultimately, he decides to be by Lucy's side. That's the person he wants to be.
I feel for the Ghoul in the past. Discovering his wife is in on the end of the world.. Total destruction of the heart.
Wow, just wow. Way to bring the Lucy and the vaults story to a close in the end. The mystery of the Vault 31-33, how Lucy's mom died, and the truth of Lucy's dad. Amazing conclusion.
After learning how Lucy's mom died, I understand how connected Lucy and Norm are to her. Lucy may be Naive but she has a heart of gold like her mom. And Norm may be the black sheep and uninspired but his intellect led to discovering the vault secrets like his mom. A massive pro in this department.
To add to the previous part, Lucy being naive progressively begins to realize the reality of the world, which shows when she kills her ghoul mom. Something she didn't understand when The Ghoul killed his friend. And then Norm, despite being uninspired, becomes invested in uncovering the truth of vaults 31-33. They really strengthen their weaknesses throughout the season.
Man, after all Maximus did to get to Lucy and leave the BoS, he now has to play the role of knight again. Without the desire he previously had, but with confliction and the passion to be with Lucy.
NEW VEGAS AT THE END! Is Lucy and The Ghoul going to go against The House now? I guess we'll find the canon ending of NV next season as well.
Cons:
I really can't understand why so many people are hating on this movie. I understand if you think it's not a great movie but it certainly isn't horrible. I question your joy for movies if you say you can't even have fun watching it. 6/10 for me.
I thought the action was great, the callbacks to the og were really nice and subtle (not like those obvious ones that throw the movie off), and it was just a fun movie to watch.
Here's my pros (Excluding above for the most part)
1. I loved what they changed from the original and how they did it. Ex-UFC fighter, book store family, etc. I felt it worked well with the story.
The characters felt like they were real individuals. They all felt like their own. Even each biker felt like even though they were the baddies, they had their own thoughts. Especially the funny nice guy. Sorry to say, unlike the og. The bad guys mostly felt generic with a few solid ones and the barmembers were mostly there to fill slots besides a few.
I loved how Dalton was teaching the other's how to handle their clients. In the original, it was more of "just be nice until things get rough" but this one was slowly teaching them how to be rough when needed.
And even though Connor's acting isn't great.. He was a blast to watch. Absolutely hilarious.
Even though the ending was very Hollywood action film, it was still way less corny than the og ending.
Now for cons:
1. The storyline isn't fantastic, nothing to really complain about though.
Sadly, acting wasn't phenomenal across the board (except Jake ofc)
Even though Dalton killing that dude was sick and clearly his anger showed, I wish there was a more wild scene with him going nuts till he controlled himself. Like he did in the Octagon but actually stops himself. He was a beast during the fights but that rage wasn't quite there to bring the story home.
This season finally had the cheating wife card right..
In S1, the guy is constantly presented as this horrible dude. The wife cheats on him, he gets slapped and ridiculed. Then later on, The wife cheats on him again and leaves him for dead for another woman. He gets blamed for calling her out and he has to apologize. Even after apologizing, she said that he has to do better to keep her. Like she didn't cheat on him twice and leave him for dead...
This season finally does it beautifully. A slow burn for the information leading to the reveal she cheated on him. The tension doesn't blame it on the guy but has realistic dialogue and consequences for the show. And I love how the side guy is the one revealed to be the purger just to be with the girl. Beautifully executed.
This episode took a deep dive when they made the husband the villain. The wife is actively cheating on him, left him to die for some girl they slept with a few times, then gets angry at him when he calls her out on her stuff? Every moment the guy is completely justified, they make him the bad guy for this crappy love triangle. I hope the guy gets some justification eventually because it's just annoying how they're justifying the girl's terrible actions.
"Then stop climbing or you will" as this girl continously cheats on him and let him die with no remorse...
Started off strong and ended like a cheap action film... 5/10.
Spoilers down below.
Pros:
The premise started strong with the start of the Purge experiment and how the world was reacting to it.
I adored how they portrayed the Church as a refuge for those in need as well.
The protags were great as well.
Cons:
It started off with subtlety and natural flow but somewhere in the mix, they pretty much made a race war. I didn't notice this off the bat but slowly realized. Every good guy was a minority. Every bad guy (besides Skeletor who was just psychotic) were white. Not only this, when you look at the mercenaries, it's the whitest dudes you can get, and many wear KKK masks and Nazi-like appearances.
The action was so unbelievably over-the-top. It's hard to be in suspense when the gang leader is apparently Jason Statham.
Skeletor was shown as a main antagonist but somewhere in the mix, he just disappeared. Only for him to reappear, conveniently, in the "final battle", just to be killed off.
The ending was something like a cheesy action film where the "heroes" battle the terrible government.
And the film portrays the civilians has unwilling to Purge yet everytime it shows a civilian purging, they just hide in some abandoned area, do some "where is he?!" yelling and then disappear somewhere.
Overall entertaining and mostly faithfully adapted but there are heavy flaws you can't ignore.
The dialogue is terrible, you can basically watch them reading their scripts. I don't know if it's the actors fault, the writers, or both but it is absolutely awful.
The pacing is insanely off as well. Most scenes go by so fast I can barely even process the previous scene. It just jumps from one thing to another like its trying to cram the story into a box. I mean, I can't even feel the tone of the scene because it goes so fast something else just jumps in without warning.
The cgi is mostly good but some points look terrible as well.
Aang flying contradicts the lore of Avatar as well. Flying was so rare that everyone thought it was a myth but Aang casually flying around with no problems. Except when he's fighting Zuko apparently.
Spoilers for the film in advance. It's story is simple and straightforward but entertaining. At times, it feels like it drags on and repeats plotpoints but overall a good movie. 6/10.
The Voice acting is pretty solid, nothing too spectacular, the art style matches the tone which is nice, and the comedy is solid but sometimes corny.
For some of my cons of the movie.
The first half of the movie and second half feel the exact same. Someone is framed, mistrust, conflict, they get the evidence, save the day. It's like they wanted a longer film but didn't know how to do it so they just decided to reframe someone.
The scene where Goldenloin was claiming Nimona manipulated Boldheart could've easily been fixed by Boldheart saying "I was there when she admitted to killing the Queen.". Like, he witnessed the entirety of her admitting she framed Boldheart and killed the queen but he just didn't say anything.
I also didn't care for how the first solution was just to find the guy who gave knights swords. They had the proof just from finding this dude. Then later the only evidence they had was shot because they decided it was best to go out in public to show his ex.
The scene where Nimona was a kid and the past queen betrayed her was pretty dumb too. They hung out all of the time then Nimona has to defend herself against people trying to murder her so the queen gets scared of her? Really? Thought that was pretty lame.
Massive spoilers from beginning to end!!!
I really wanted to like this show more. I heard the trash thrown at it and believed it could've been amazing. But after watching the end, it lacks so much... It has it's pros but it's just alright. 6/10..
Honestly, if they got rid of the past storylines and changed it to Echo's past with Kingpin. Then, got rid of her powers and kept her grounded. And keep her story involved with the crime world more. This show would've been way better. Then in a second season or movie, they could've gave her powers like she eventually gets in the comics and built on that without shoving it a 5 episode show along with 2 other plotlines.
Pros:
- Acting is great. They didn't fail with that.
Any moment with Kingpin was amazing. Kingpin never fails to make the best scenes.
The family dynamic was great.
Cons:
- The stories of the past made the story at hand feel weak with no importance. They were out of place, barely any depth, and just used for the "I'm stronger than you now" scene.
There was barely any scenes that actually involved the crime life. Mainly scenes from the past, a few criminals every so often then Kingpin in the end.
Adding on to the previous complaints. Majority of the show just referred to Native things. I love the representation and providing (as far as I know) realistic lives of Natives for the most part but it felt like almost every scene was trying to prove they were Natives. It didn't feel like I was watching a show about the crime world, it felt like I was watching a Native drama. Look at Ms. Marvel for example. They show the Muslim life so well. It's everywhere yet it doesn't interfere with the story. The only issue they had were the power changes and the whole past timeline with the bracelets (Same issue this show had)
Another ending where it's "family vs bad guys". I hated it in Blue Beetle and I hate it now. It's corny, just let the capable fighters be the capable fighters. No need for "magical family fights".
Finally, Kingpin shows up just to be no threat at all. It's like he's this big bad guy as he's supposed to be presented then Echo just uses her powers and beats them with no issue at all. The entirety of the show was supposed to lead to this moment then it's over in what felt like seconds...
Season 2 Review: I made a S1 review full of everything I felt about the season and show (Spoiler: Not great...) Now, I'll do the same for this one. The review will be edited as I watch new episodes and form new opinions. I'll make a pros list and cons list and those will update as the season continues. (Finished S2 now) Obvious spoilers coming up.
S1 ended with heavy disappointment. Master Chief was nothing like the character we know and love. He was rageful, sloppy, hateful (towards Cortana too when they've never hated each other) and idiotic. They completely misrepresented the character and none of what they portray him as is accurate. I'll stop to not rant as much, sorry lol. S1 review goes on. Overall, S1 was poorly written with the exclusion of a few points.
Now on to S2.
Where do I start.. First things first, like S1, this isn't Halo. Spartans aren't Spartans, Arbiter isn't Arbiter, plenty of beloved storylines were butchered and minimized to fit into the season. But if the show wasn't Halo, I'd give it a 6.5/10. As a Halo show, 6/10.
There's some episodes that are great, some that are boring, and some that are just filled too much with different storylines. But overall, this season was more enjoyable than the last season. They improved on certain things but continue to fail other things.
Hope my pros and cons list serve as reasonable and objective in both enjoyment and quality.
Pros:
- Once again, solid action. It doesn't fail to entertain.
Once again, the acting is the saving grace of this show. No matter how bad the plot is, the actors keep me in.
Strong first episode. Still repeating many failures of s1 but overall improvement.
They got Marvin 'Krondon' Jones III! That's always a win! He's amazing! Even if he's a side character sadly.
Episode "Reach" was a near perfect episode. The action, the cost of life in war, all of it was great.
Season Finale time: This is the first time this season that the Spartans felt like spartans. In armor at that!
At first, I thought they were going basic zombie look for the Flood but they're actually giving them the tentacles and stuff. Hopefully this continues.
The actual Master Chief is here! He's been gone the whole season but he's finally back! Why couldn't they do this from the beginning!!
Not really a pro but they went heavy on Infinite for the Halo ring. A direct copy view of Infinite's teaser and using the grapple-shot against "The Arbiter". Interesting route to take.
Cons:
- Once again, Master Chief is NOTHING like Master Chief. They should've just made him another spartan.
Once again, they treat Spartan II emotion like they're children. No depth, just pure childish behavior.
So, they say John dies in S1 due to Cortana controlling him (which was still a useless scene as he could've hesitated an extra 3 minutes and had backup.) But then he immediately gets saved in the first second of S2? Talk about meaningless plot device. Bringing in something critical then just saying "Changed our minds"..
They're still trying with the horrible love interest from S1? Didn't they learn that it was the worst decision they made on the show?
That is NOT Cortana. Why'd they change actors? It was great in s1. Okay, it's not a horrible change but it leaves a bad taste so it's a con.
Great... The terrible spy storyline is continuing.
Apparently they're making Chief appear to be an old, delusional guy? Like why? What's with the show trying to make Chief look idiotic?
Episode "Reach", though it was a great episode, they once again got rid of the spartan's armor. And their reasoning was just "Oh, Ackerson took it." Like, really? Lazy writing there.
So, apparently Spartan III program are being trained now. Why are they being trained at the same time as Reach? I get they are making their own storyline but the III were a thing 21 years before Reach was attacked. It completely removed beloved characters we know from this show's canon. Carter, Kat, Noble 6, Emile, Jun, etc. They don't exist anymore and the III are now some newbie recruits with no experience.
Personal gripe but WHERE'S KURT! They replaced him for Kai, just for drama sake? It's lame we can't have a single infamous spartan show up outside of Chief.
It's real convenient that every characters plot line ends up at the same location. Chief, the S-III, Soren, and Kwan. All of them apparently needed the same planet. Lazy writing there.
Why is Kai so easily influenced by Ackerson? Ackerson comes up with some random "Chief is a traitor" and Kai just stops trusting Chief? And why do they have her brutalize him when he doesn't even fight back? She's like "I don't want this" but slams him repeatedly into equipment. Stupid.
Makee's story is so useless in s2. She's barely there the entire season then when she finally talks to Chief, it's just terribly justifying genocide and wanting to own the ring herself. Like that'll happen. I figured when they introduced a human Covenant member, this would happen but it just doesn't get any better.
After two episodes past "Reach", I just fully realized "Reach" was supposed to be the Fall of Reach.. Even though the episode was good, I am so heavily disappointed.. I thought they were gonna go back for more but apparently that tiny battle was all they had to offer for Reach. It feels so insignificant compared to the mass destruction of the canon lore. Losing Reach was supposed to be a devastating blow to humanity and a massive war against the Covenant but it just got chalked up to "We escaped before the battle cause we knew we'd lose".. So disappointing..
Season finale cons: Lackluster finale. Cool scenes but very anticlimactic for an ending of a season. Left many storylines far to open-ended too. Flood, Halo, Halsey, etc.
Forgot to say this previously but this is NOT the Arbiter. Many times in the season, I didn't even know he was there until someone called him out specifically. Even on Reach, they told Master Chief something like "You know him?" And I'm just like "Which one?". And his character is meaningless. He shows up as this large threat, becomes Makee's guard dog, then gets killed by Chief. No storyline, no development, nothing.. Just a basic Elite with the false identity of the Arbiter.
Season 1 Review: If this show wasn't based on Halo, or even just didn't have Master Chief, Halsey, and the other notable iconic characters, I could like this show more. 5/10 overall. 6/10 if the show wasn't based on Halo. (5 is average. 6 is good) This is a long review of pros and cons (mass majority cons). The list will have spoilers from every episode.
Pros: Main plot with the artifacts is good, nothing special though.
The acting is the best thing about this show. Though, I disagree with the way the story handled these characters, the acting never failed.
For the most part, the action (when it's there) is really good. Not the best CGI but nothing that ruins the action.
Cons:
It takes Master Chief and changes him so much that he becomes unrecognizable as the hero we know and love.
Pre-rebellion phase: he has no mind of his own, heartless, and emotionless. Then all of the sudden he decides not to be this and save Kwan. After this, apparently there was a device that mutes spartan emotions which contradicts his previous emotional decision to help her. Post-rebellion phase: He acts like an emotional child. He's anxious, emotionally driven, overly passionate, and angry non-stop. Absolutely nothing like the Chief we know. And Master Chief never hated or was disrespectful towards Cortana. Especially when they first met, and this was before taking out the device that mutes emotions. He doesn't even act like the soldier he was trained to be. And he keeps taking his helmet off! Are we watching Master Chief or John Guy? The whole point of Master Chief is that he's a faceless hero to the audience. Teasing his face but never revealing it to us. But the show ignores that completely and just says "you like his helmet? Well, you'll barely see it". Might as well make him a marine as you see his face as much as theirs.
And it portrays Child John as this nice kid who helps the kid from falling off the tree bridge. But Child John was actually somewhat a bully. When halsey finds him, he's throwing kids off a hill to win king of the hill. He was never a leader-like character until a while after spartan training. And he never hated Halsey for kidnapping him like the show portrays. He actually was glad and felt important. He loved that they disciplined him from his previous bullying days.
Chief also has "intimacy" with the spy of the Covenant. That's not the only issue, Chief talked to this girl for maybe a day total, and that's generous, but he just decides to "intimacy" with her? Not to mention, Cortana is watching every second of it! Like what? Just weird..
The spy is for the Covenant the entire story, has "intimacy" with Chief and decides "Eh, forget the Covenant".. Stupid..
It's very convenient that Miranda discovers who recorded the voice channel the second Chief lets the spy escape. Also, wasn't that one spartan supposed to help her? They just decided to ignore that part?
Kwan's story starts well then just gets massively sidetracked and forgotten.
The main human antagonist working with Covenant is just a boring character. Also, the Covenant genocides humans, they'd never work with them even if it's pretend.
Kai's reactions after taking her mute emotions device acts like a child and completely forgets who she is. A Spartan. She becomes annoying.
Halsey also never lied to the II's about being kidnapped in main canon. It just added the unnecessary "I remember things" plot which is just boring and out of character.
Halsey claiming humans are the issue to a literal spy for the Covenant (She thought she was a survivor of the Covenant) is just stupid. "Yeah, these aliens are committing universal genocide but we humans are the problem. We're terrible while we're being hunted down and murdered."
Riz and Vannak knocking out their Spartan ally is crazy, so ridiculous.
Cortana didn't even need to control him. It was like 3 minutes then back up arrived. Completely pointless.
Guess Master Chief is just dead now? Just like that?
So.. yeah.. If you forget this is Halo or pretend Master Chief is another spartan, this is a decent watch. Otherwise, this show fails miserably at interpreting the characters we know and love.
Solid film with an interesting plot. The only issue is that it doesn't flesh out certain things like some characters. It expects you to know the characters as they show up, which isn't a bad thing but can be an issue for less knowledgeable watchers. The ending was a bit corny as well. I would love for this to be a show instead. More time to flesh the history out and get to the smallest details.
For a retelling of the story. It's alright. It's decently accurate but misses so many key moments in the history of Christ's birth. Not saying it has to be a perfect retelling but at least hit the key narratives of Christ's birth. Acting is good, nothing spectacular. Nothing really stands out in this film as higher than a 6/10. Oh, the birth of Jesus was great though. The ending is definitely worth the watch. God bless everyone!
Now, time for the list of things wrong/ignored from Scripture. Ignore if you want but I hope you'd like to have a small learning sesh.
Nothing suggests Joseph would flirt with girls while he was betrothed to Mary. It really just makes Joseph look unnecessarily bad when he was always loyal to Mary. Matthew 1:19
[19] Joseph her husband was a righteous man. Because he didn’t want to humiliate her, he decided to call off their engagement quietly.
It ignores Mary's openess to becoming a mother for more drama. Luke 1:38
[38] Then Mary said, “I am the Lord’s servant. Let it be with me just as you have said.” Then the angel left her.
Joseph never told anyone of Mary's pregnancy when he believed she cheated on him. No one knew. Matthew 1:19
[19] Joseph her husband was a righteous man. Because he didn’t want to humiliate her, he decided to call off their engagement quietly.
It ignores when John the Baptist jumped in the womb upon Mary's arrival causing Elizabeth to be filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaiming that Mary is blessed among women. Luke 1:42-45
[42] “God has blessed you above all women, and he has blessed the child you carry. [43] Why do I have this honor, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? [44] As soon as I heard your greeting, the baby in my womb jumped for joy. [45] Happy is she who believed that the Lord would fulfill the promises he made to her.”
And it ignores Mary praising God for her immaculate conception again. Luke 1:46-49
[46] Mary said, “With all my heart I glorify the Lord! [47] In the depths of who I am I rejoice in God my savior. [48] He has looked with favor on the low status of his servant. Look! From now on, everyone will consider me highly favored [49] because the mighty one has done great things for me. Holy is his name. "
No soldiers went to Elizabeth's house. And Joseph was never at Elizabeth's house. It's unnecessary drama.
They certainly never got married at Elizabeth's house. But the song they sang was pretty good.
Herod didn't search for Jesus till after His birth. He waited for the Magi to send a message back but realized he was fooled and that they weren't going to. Joseph was told in a dream to head to Egypt with Mary and Jesus till King Herod died. When they left, King Herod sent to kill every 2 year old or less in Bethlehem and surrounding areas. Which fulfilled the prophesy in Jeremiah 31:15
[15] The LORD proclaims: A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and wailing. It’s Rachel crying for her children; she refuses to be consoled, because her children are no more."
King Herod's son has no history in the story (a very significantly small part after Herod's death) but his change to Christ is really good despite the inaccuracy. Also, Herod's son never turned to Christ in the Gospels. Joseph feared his ruling when they returned from Egypt.
Like I said on 8 and 9, Joseph only knew of Herod's future murders because he was foretold in a dream the night Jesus was born. They escaped to Egypt before the searches and killings. They had no safe passage by Herod's son or his troops.
I want to reiterate 8 and 9 because it was so important. King Herod killed as many children as possible to find Jesus, it wasn't a completely happy and Holy birth of Christ, there were terrible events that occured. They were in Egypt till King Herod died. Herod's son took his place as king. When Joseph and his family returned from Egypt, he feared Herod's son, having been warned in a dream, so they went to Nazareth. Which fulfilled the prophesy that Jesus would be called a Nazarene.
Matthew 2:22-23
[22] But when he heard that Archelaus ruled over Judea in place of his father Herod, Joseph was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he went to the area of Galilee. [23] He settled in a city called Nazareth so that what was spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled: He will be called a Nazarene.
This movie honestly felt like a comic book. The plot feels ripped out of the pages. It's fun, entertaining, and a really good film. Kamala was the highlight, of course. But Monica and Carol were great. I loved how the villain was connected to Captain Marvels past. Her decision to destroy the Supreme Intelligence gave realistic consequences.
My only cons for this film would be, 1. a more fleshed out villain. She was good but never got to feel the pain as we should. 2. The emotional scenes should've been even more emotional. They were sad and stuff but they were one and done scenes. 3. The final fight sequence was too fast-paced. Other than that, great film.
