after 30min: what the heck i am watching here ?
after 60min: ok, i got the story. So what now ?
after 90min: what?! Are you serious. That makes no sense. What a s****y movie.
after 120min: wow! just, wow!
after 147min: what a totally great movie. Typical Lynch, but it make much MUCH more sense than "Lost Highway".
Totally liked it. Rating: 8/10
the film starts well but ends awkwardly. who knows if Netflix will understand that the decline in subscribers is mainly due to the fact that it continues to produce crap like this.
This film is a masterpiece. Every few years I look to see if there is any new Anime out there of equal scope and quality, and am completely disappointed.
To the haters who watch Akira and didn't "get" it, you shouldn't mistake your own lack of comprehension for a lack of meaning. One needs to watch Akira a few times to really piece together what is happening.
This is not a Hollywood film. It will not spoon feed you a convenient plot with happy endings. But if you put a little effort into it, this movie will deliver.
Pro-tip: Don't watch the English overdub, do subtitles. The Japanese voice actors deliver powerful performances. Also the subtitles make a lot more sense than the English overdub, as by necessity, the writers must hack on a script quite a bit to make the voice over fit into the pace and rhythm of the film. This is why overdubs almost always lose meaning, in addition to making the lips look silly.
Stupid anime glorifying the ugly business of whaling, hiding in the guise of dragon hunting. I started watching in spite of the whale killing theme because I was hoping there would be a major plot progression wherein they’ll start saving whales -errr- dragons instead of unnecessarily killing them. I’m in the 6th episode and they’re still killing gentle giants. The only time whales -errr- dragons are actually seen attacking anyone/anything is when they are provoked. This anime is so single-minded in its agenda to promote whaling -errr- draking. There are moments when it seems like the characters are about to redeem themselves but it just ends in yet another major facepalm. In one episode, a whale -errr- dragon leads them out of the storm. They didn’t kill the whale -errr- dragon but the episode ended with a shot of one character eating bread with whale -errr- dragon meat. The characters are annoying and uninteresting. There’s this one character, Mika whose only bent on hunting, butchering and eating whales -errr- dragons. There’s also this girl, Takita acting naive and actually enjoying all the slaughter of innocent gentle giants. I find myself rooting for the dragons in every episode, hoping everyone would get killed by the whales -errr- dragons.
In the 11th episode, just when I thought Takita was starting to develop compassion for the whales -errr- dragons because she befriended a baby whale -errr- dragon, she actually eats the MOTHER WHALE-ERRR- DRAGON RIGHT IN FRONT OF ITS BABY. AFTER, SHE EVEN ASKED FOR A SECOND SERVING!!! THEN, SHE FEEDS THE BABY DRAGON ITS OWN MOTHER. They were supposed to show a warm, lighthearted moment but it just came out as sick and disgusting.
THIS ANIME IS HOPELESS.
This was quite disappointing for an original show that was supposed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Bones.
