I'm done with this show. Great acting, great premise, and great setting but it unfolds like an onion too much seeking to ape Dark, yet it gives no underlying cause either in titillation or suggestion so that the characters can emerge properly as having empathy for us or worthy as engaging with emotionally. It amounts to family squabbles with a mystery/time as the threat. Time always eats away at us so this is not all that profound.
Short: You can't have two seasons with some metaphysical asshole in the ground as an antagonist/deus ex machina. I was hoping for some NA metaphysics but all I got me was a cats chasing in and out of a basket.
Started off a little slow then got better and better - fully hooked by end of episode 3. A lot of the dark humour also started coming in at the same time.
I really enjoyed this... until the final episode where they spend so much time throwing just about anything they could at it to lead up to a typical Hollywood ending.
The second half of the last episode was full of Hollywood cliche scenes and then after the big finale we're left with questions like: What happened the the cop(s)/Interpol people? What happened to Seamus and the baddies? How was everything resolved?
Never mind, we've thought up a smart-ass ending for one of the main characters.. that'll do... just like Hollywood.
Last episode 3/10
Big Hollywood finale 0/10
Overall I have to drop it from 8.5/10 to 6... lazy writing has consequences.
An interesting story as a Podcaster tries to unravel a 20 year old story.
Bodkin, the Town, has lot's of secrets and some very interesting surprises in store for the Podcast Team! :thumbsup_tone1: Well worth a watch, slow burn with most answer's coming in the last 3 episodes.
Didn't play the games, seemed boring to me. We'll see how this show is going to be.
This is literally so bad for so many reasons (none of which being "woke"). Walton Goggins is the only thing good about this entire series, and even his character has severe issues - especially when he is supposed to be a GHOUL, and he still looks kind of too "pretty" (as in, his face is too smooth for a ghoul. It was just weird) for that and being in the wasteland for over 200 years!! The make-up/FX for this show is often times so awful, it makes it extremely difficult. Especially when there are so many amazing and talented artists out there (they clearly wanted to cut costs). - and just about everything else is so disappointing as to make me never try another video game adaptation for the rest of my life.
They spent pretty much all of the show focused on the stories of the people, their histories (as a lazy plot device), and oh, worst of freaking ALL, ROMANCING TWO OF THE MAIN ONES, AND MAKING THEM KISSY KISSY GOOGOO EYES FOR IDK HOW LONG, but it's a gd waste of everyone's time and annoying as hell. Why is it they think the only way women will ever watch things like this is if we focus on relationships and romance? It's not necessary (and offensive).
Barely any of the most interesting things in the game even show up, or if they do, it's for such a short moment, you would think this show was about something else. Mostly it's about her, him & the brotherhood
The awesome and interesting towns, the buildings, the cults, some of the crazy DLC stories (which potentially would have been incredibly good plot line for this). The hacking, the lockpicking, the mutants, and the many many other interesting creatures. Or idk... How about any of the other really cool shit that could have been incorporated? Nah! We waste so much time on pointless stuff. (And really pathetic embarrassing brotherhood armor)
I think they also failed on how they didn't exactly make things look as gritty as they should have. Not half as much. Things looked too nice. I was honestly so excited to see something good and was let down - and ya know, so many series and films have excelled at the gritty dystopian wasteland look, it is weird they couldn't at least do that much.
I'll keep watching for Goggins most likely. He is a master class of character acting - and rad
It would have been cool to see the screen of the pip-boy more, felt like missed oppurtunity
The writing in this is the usual predictable crap from streaming services we keep getting. Hollywood, too. The "big budget" money makers.....
It just is getting old.
Edit: the humor in the game is also probably my favorite of any games other than the Portal games. Sadly i felt the entire show was so completely devoid of any of this that it became tedious to watch and quite disappointing. I have not been able to finish it at this point. I would rather watch other people play the game than watch this. :person_shrugging:♂
This show is boring and pointless and violent.
Unfortunately I’m not a computer gamer, and thought I’d try this anyway. Turns out after just one episode I can see why I’m not a fan of. Absolute garbage.
Here’s a one star for hiring racist, Zionists, idiot, genocide supporter, and excuse of a human being Michael Rapaport.
I'm glad I'm old and don't have too many year left.
horrible, complete garbage. barley able to watch first epsode.
Looks good, but that's it. I couldn't finish it. The most boring show I've come across in a while. It's such a drag and halfway through episode 3 I just turned it off and watched something good instead.
The character of Elsbeth is fantastic but the legal maneuvering in the Good Wife was much more interesting and well written than this Monk wanna be. Carrie Preston is great but the show needs more sophisticated writers. I wish they would go back to the legal intrigue because the suspension of disbelief that Elsbeth would be the detective is too much. I hope it gets better because this character is wonderful.
I liked her character a lot in The Good Wife, but having a whole show with her is just too much. I found the episodes got very annoying quickly, so I gave up after 3 shows.
Wasted potential once again. Kate Winslet is immense. Matthias is immense. The acting was phenomenal, full stop. The dialogue and dramatisation was insanly hypnotising, I couldn't take my eyes and ears off any monologue. The comedy isn't necessarily funny but outrageous enough to make your whole face blink. The story was strongly driven by real-life political and personal issues, and I loved it. The plot became really rushed, unfortunately. The juice was definitely there, but the juicing wasn't. I know we shouldn't get every answer, but we shouldn't be left with 99 questions. I just wish they had given us more.
Absolutely nothing to do with Two-Tone whatsoever, apart from a couple of soundtrack plays, no mention of Two Tone, Specials, or Ska! The soldier brother is the best character, and the IRA connection is the main interest, while the main character is unrealistic, uninteresting and doesn't grab your attention. The music is bad, the band is frankly ridiculous. The cartoon character of the dodgy club owner is unbelievably bad. Like the equally terrible "This is England", another show written by someone who has no idea of the youth movements and music of the time, but somehow think they do. Probably because they were a wannabe on the periphery and wished they could be one of the "In Crowd" but were rejected... If you were a Mod or Skin, and think it might be worth a watch, forget it!
might be okay if you've played the games, but this was really boring.
watch silo instead(or wait for season 2 and then watch silo)
This ain't The Last of Us. If you haven't played the game, keep out. It is awfully boring and pointless.
Started off well but went downhill like a rollercoaster. Gave it an hour and it made no sense at all. Done.
0/10
Watched 1st episode. It was just so boring. Poor acting plot didn’t make sense. Nothing really exciting to keep watchin. Literally felt asleep. Tv series these days aay dumb as!
I have just seen the first episode, and that is enough. This was awful. The acting, the story, the scenery. It also feels nothing like the games in it's "atmosphere", even with all its forced references.
But probably worst of all: it was boring.
One of the worst pilots I've ever seen. Steer clear of this one if you have any standard, even if you don't care about the games.
Masterpiece.
That's all anyone needs to know when trying to figure out if watching Shōgun is worth the time and energy.
This miniseries should be required viewing for anyone in the entertainment industry to comprehend what good story telling and construction of a series is.
This should be the bar, the gold standard in quality in every respect that shows should endeavour to achieve. Not just in historical drama but every genre!
We have had a constant diet of empty, lifeless garbage flood our screens (for the most part), expecting easy money making profits while dishing out crap.
We don't expect the lavish expense that has gone into Shōgun as the norm, but do expect decent story writing without today's continual political agenda bashing the audience. We watch shows to get lost in the world and the story being told to us.
We refuse the incessant garbage. We demand stories written by people, not a room full of monkeys, or AI and we want those writers to be passionate and well versed in the story 'world' they are writing about. No more compromise, no more 'calling it in'.
Audiences deserve better, and Shōgun piqued our desire for exceptional story telling and crafting for the screen. The vast library of modern entertainment is a waste of money and time.
It’s a shame that such a beautiful and well done show is littered with such stupid comments about language. Seriously it’s not that big of a deal.
The best show on TV right now!!!! Season 2 has to be in the works
Oh look another show that has its natural flow interrupted by the same ol' industry standards plaguing everything else in the last few years. Hire hack writers who don't care about the source, hire every checkbox in the book, and then blame it on the fans for not liking it. Next.
Lowered my rating as I was so bored on S2E1 I turned it off.
It's really boring, plot moves at a glacial pace with a lot of filler in every single episode. I watched 5 episodes, and don't really care who did it at this point.
Tries to be overly complicated. Which makes it a MEH.
entertaining for the first four episodes but fell off the cliff in the final two. the final episode is particularly poor.
Take my word this show is utter crap... Almost no time for Godzilla or any other monster and a story that seems to be written by a high school drop out... I love Kurt but even he can't save this junk show...
