I love this show, sadly and criminally there was only one series.
What a great way to introduce a decent idea... and then crap all over it, all in the same episode.
So... an alien ship, probe or whatever, lands on Earth... and we send ONE scientist with a music jukebox to try and communicate? Ugh... even Mars attacks! first contact was more realistic. No, scratch that... even Monsters vs aliens was more realistic!!
And the technology we have! Faster than light drives, faster than light communications (yeah, holo communication from 8 light years away, with no lag...), sentient AIs, "soma" sleep (like cryogenic, but without the need of defrosting, I guess)... but we still don't know how to properly shield a spaceship, or how to repair the damn antennas. We build hell of a windshields though! Back on Earth, if you look directly at the Sun during an eclipse, you may permanently damage your corneas. But if you're near Sirius A (so near you're eating the sunbursts), you can look directly to it, no problem, you don't even need sunglasses (or siriusglasses?).
Then there is the problem of the crew. Astronauts are supposed to be the very forking best of the best! Physically, intellectually and emotionally. And then they train to be even better. Here, we have a bunch of good looking people too young to have finished college, and then a guy who must weigh at least 150 kg (yes, I know, we're all the same, it doesn't matter skinny or fat... but in space travel, it does matter), another one who doesn't even know his companion names (he's that smart and well trained!)... and then a mutiny on day one. And a captain who will take a 7 months detour through unknown dark matter, because a 11% chance of failure on the alternate plan is too much of a risk!
I shouldn't criticize the captain, though. I mean... she can fly the spaceship manually, and do it way better than the useless AI!
Seriously. They couldn't have made a worse pilot episode, even if they wanted. And I'm being generous here, I've said nothing of the last 5 minutes, which are the worst.
So that's the best crew we have? Really? I'm disappointed so far. Will give it a try for another 1-2 episodes.
I really wanted this to be good.
But once you see a bunch of teenagers sent to save humanity, and their most important subject to talk about is blogging, you start wondering if it's a joke or you simply misunderstood something.
But then the final moment if the episode comes, and you understand - it's not a joke. It's simply SO BAD.
I really wanted this, but I can't have it. Sorry Katey, they made you wrong.
How have I not seen this movie?
How are people not talking about this movie?
Why have I never heard of this movie?
What a fun ride and a great capstone to the 80s!
Most movies hold your hand and spoon feed you the story; 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' steals your spoon, blindfolds you, and pushes you down some stairs. Greatly enjoyed its change of pace and approach. George Smiley is Batman.
It's 40 minutes well spent. If you love aviation, the Air Force and WW2 themes, you'd love this short film.
Quality film all round.
The story about the pilots trying to fly back from the war is something I never knew about.
Alien universe film order:
1. Prometheus (2012)
2. Alien: Covenant (2017)
3. Alien (1979)
4. Aliens (1986)
5. Alien 3 (1992)
6. Alien: Resurrection (1997)
Spin-off franchise:
- Alien vs. Predator (2004)
- Alien vs. Predator: Requiem (2007)
Fantastic and hilarious. Not QUITE as funny as the original, which was my second favorite sitcom ever, without Niles and Martin, but still very funny. Don’t care one bit about laugh track, just makes me feel more like watching the original. Really don’t understand some people.
I can't believe I haven't seen this. This is the first Terminator movie. This should so be remade today and updated.
This is the first movie (from many) that I've seen where the human kind (good guys) actually lose.
Stunned and intrigued if this is also the fact in other older movies.
Season 1 was a sheet of used toilet paper…
Season 2 was a whole roll of used toilet paper…
Season 3 a pure golden nugget, made for the true fans, filled with memories and fan service of the right kind…..
After reading the comments, was surprised to not see anyone speak up who had read the book. Clarke is one of just about 10 masters in science fiction literature, and this mini-series captured his tone and thoughtfulness pretty well I thought. It was a respectful adaptation from book to screenplay, which I appreciate hugely because it is risky in this day and age to do something for the art of it rather than just profit.
It's not a show for the mass-mobs of mouth breathing corn syrup drinkers. It confronts our deepest dilemmas, and comes up with some terrifying and heart breaking conclusions. If you've got an introspective side, coupled with some moral courage, then this mini-series will reward you.
Another great episode following "Number Crunch". I still enjoy the banter between Reese and Finch with Reese pressing Finch's comfort zones, even after multiple repeat viewings.
You're not tailing her to work!?
I'm getting pretty good at this thing, Finch.
Yes I'm sure the CIA will be deeply impressed when they shoot you.
Just feeling a little restless here, Finch.
...use...the...cushion!
Reese head tilt
The numbers never stop coming in, Finch. What are we gonna do if another one comes in while I'm sidelined?
I'm sure I'll think of something...
And I know you won't carry a gun. But if I'm sending you back in the field you're getting some basic self defence.
No, I really don't think...
Now, listen up. Trask comes at you, put your fingers straight out like this and strike at his eyes.
Poke him in the eyes, that's your technique?
No, that's your technique. And if that doesn't work you can always take your thumb, jam it in his eye socket and twist till you hit his brain.
Please stop.
Without a doubt the greatest chick flick ever made.
The adventures of my favorite fictional Angus was a staple of the 80s and early 90s. Holds up exceptionally well. Can't speak for the remake as I've never seen an episode of it
the theme music was lit too
Not the best, but a watchable Sci-Fi to say the least.
how could a film that bases an entire storyline around a Ratatouille joke not be absolutely fantastic?
Inject this into my veins. This is the most Star Trek, Star Trek we've ever got.
It's a great series but has anyone else noticed that a lot of the footage of the Original Star Wars films (I am not talking the behind the scenes footage) appears not the remastered Lucas endorsed editions but actual original old footage, some shots look real sharp like they arent taken from archive footage freely available. What source did the Kasdan tap into? Any other documentaries or behind the scenes, especially made by Disney or Lucasfilm, you'll find that the movie footage they use is the Lucas approved special editions even if they are talking about the original making of, with the history being washed over, so this is actually a big deal that Kasdan managed to showcase the original OT footage so freely here.
Coming back from cinema and all i have to say is that is one of the best sequels i have ever watched. It was a unique experience watching this in cinema because everything worked in a perfect way from great directing to a well made script. It will probably make you feel emotional during it's time and you are going for sure to feel the nostalgy.Sorry for my bad English i am not in a perfect level but don't miss this one it's a little bit of a masterpiece.
8.7/10
"It's a mistake to push a man to violence, if violence is what he has dedicated his life to perfecting."
Well, it was just a question of time when McMahon is going to leave the show after everyone of the LaCroix family has already left. It was well done, quite out of the blue. Now we'll have to get over the mandatory "we are all so sad"-episode and then he'll never be mentionned again... Now, who's going to take over?
The case itself? Heartbreaking - and resourceful with it's alarm-system.
The only 2 interesting characters are gone. What remains is average, dull and uninteresting. Not promising
Lacroix was not playing with that kid. I love seeing him in this role. His character is very level headed, but we also see when he doesn't take any crap. Not to mention I live for the opening scene when he's just being a dad.
Pedro Pascal and Nicolas Cage is a friendship I didn’t know I needed in my life. :sparkles:
Such a fun movie, with lots of comedy and laugh out loud moments.
Having been around for the 1st top gun I was afraid about this one. But it did not disappoint I heard people say it's better than the original... Well it definitely is!! The casting of Rooster is amazing. Also seeing Val Kilmer again brought a tear to my eye. What a movie and the music of Hans Zimmer is epic as always!!
What a great movie! What movies should be like. This needs to be viewed in theaters! Highly recommend.
The lady who plays the third sister, is an awful actress. Disney needs to stop catering to kids when it comes to marvel and star wars, too many scenes/stories are so childish.
