The language with which both men talked about their families as possessions really stuck out to me. It's what led to one being unable to grieve his dead family and the other being unable to connect to his living family. The ending showed how viewing women as mere set dressing for men's lives ultimately leads to tragedy for not just the disposable women but for the men living in misery and loneliness.
I'm always amazed that the anti woke people don't realise The Boys is making fun of them
“Just to know ! Does this season has woke stuff?? So i can skip like the other season”
Last season was about the AIDS epidemic. Gay people do not equal woke. I highly suggest you figure out the correct use of the term or stay far away from everyone.
Finally tatiana joins mcu :innocent::stuck_out_tongue:
If you were bored with this movie then you were not paying enough attention. The detail put into the story (pay attention to what is happening in the background), film making (unbelievable pre-Gravity and pre-Birdman long takes), and philosophical concepts/allegorical criticism of our present day(watch the bonus features and documentaries on the DVD/BR).
Pros:
+ Beautiful, heartwarming movie
+ I just watched a couple of minutes and had to cry just because this movie is so wonderful.
+ NOT ONE (!) CGI-ComputerAnimation-Szene. Or if so, you don't see it.
+ Wonderful messages (The ocean is our friend and if we respect it, we can live with it; Friendship is something great - and it's so unimportant 'where' your friend is from)
+ Gives you (and gave me) this special 'i-am-a-child-again'-Feeling
Critics:
- This Movie is made for kids and parents. So is the tone of the movie. I liked it, but not everyone does that so.
- German and english Translation. Not as heartwarming as the japanese version.
How to watch it:
+ Watch the movie in japanese. It's the only Version that has so much heart.
+ Don't shame if you cry. I did (male, 30 years old, no children -so far). And i don't regret that i watched this beautiful movie.
+ I watch some, but nor all Ghibli-Movies. But at this time: It's my favorite Ghibli-Movie.
Rating: My heart melted dozen times. I will show it every child i know
9/10
First episode rocked. I couldn't be happier about a season based on The Boyz.
Loved the characters and the kids playing them, it's a new generation of actors. Loving the story arch so far. Can't wait for the next episodes.
I'm enjoying it so far (3 episodes in), but I want to rate it higher just because it's upsetting so many people that don't like shows about empowered women
[1899] - Season One: 8/10 (Great)
“What we know is a drop. What we don’t know is an ocean”
While “1899” differs greatly from the show Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese had previously developed, it is nevertheless excellent science fiction. The show has stunning visuals, an atmospheric score, and a baffling mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s impossible to look away from an episode because of your immersion in its reality. The acting is decent, especially from Emily Beecham and Andreas Pietschmann. Fans of “Dark” or those who love a Sci-Fi mystery will definitely like this. Without giving too much away, I’d say it’s an amalgamation of some of the finest science fiction from the 21st century, yet it all comes together nicely. I can see how the first season’s ending would disappoint some, but anybody who has followed this pair for any length knows they are keeping their biggest surprise for the very end. All the pieces are in place for an epic season two; everyone who worked on this show deserves a big round of applause. I can’t wait for what season two brings!
I hope Kim's character gets brutally murdered this season. There, I said it.. and I know I'm not the only one :smiling_imp:
Allf the complaints about diversity are so typical of today's hateful conservative rhetoric.
I found the first two episodes to be epic scenes, great special effects, and a compelling storyline. by the end of the second episode I was disappointed that I couldn't watch the next one. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. a great start to a beloved set of books from my youth.
Not without it's faults; but resoundingly 'Star Trek' - great story, great acting, absolutely stunning visual effects - welcome back, Star Trek!
I see people complaining this show is too “woke.” I think it is great. I’m liking even more than The Boys.
Two episodes in and I find this compelling and better than the Chinese version (in terms of pacing). If you're a scifi fan looking for new ideas and concepts to expand your horizons then this is definitely right up your alley.
Why make a show about the most horrible character in another show? Something about the professor, Tokyo or Nairobi would yield more.
I'm gonna have to reiterate that this show should have never ended! love it so much. Every season got better and better, and just loved the character development and in jokes like Jacks car getting smashed all the time. Truly a great show.
Holy shit, I wanted so much to high five that religious lady. In the face. With a car. [2]
Although (I am sure) lots of things slipped my understanding firstly because I am white and secondly because I am European, I believe that shows like this one are extremely necessary for understanding others, changing ourselves and making society a better place.
Wait no second season? Why?
Toxic fragile masculinity is exhaling from most of these comments. Stop whining and just don't watch the show. Damn, you guys like being stupid.
“If you’re not into Batman, Green Arrow, Iron Man , etc, those who are heroes without powers, then this show is not for you. If you’re not into DC heroes, then again, this show isn’t for you. If you’re homophobic or sexist, then you won’t like this show. If you can’t stand good quality shows, then you won’t like this show. Still here? Then you should like this it." — (FangsMcWolf, 7 October 2019 user review on IMDb) (the part about good quality shows being more personal, tho)
I quite rarely post my opinion on TV show, but this one is a masterpiece! Abolutely stunning actining not only from the lead actors which are beyond amazing! I love the cinematographics I love the acting, I love the dynamic between all characters and I love the fact that all this is based on true story! I don't think that someone else have ever done a better job of recreating the life of a historical persona. The lead character played by Suranne Jones is so captivating - very smart, well educated and brave woman who has been born in time which do not match her unstopable and courageous spirit. If that doesn't make you watch it, I don't know what will
Absolutely hilarious people griping about "woke themes" - you know The Boys is also extremely woke, right??? It's a nonstop critique of fascism, U.S. imperialism, patriarchy, capitalism, and every other power structure that exists. So...yeah.
Anyway...Gen V fucking rocks and I am so excited to see what's next and where they go with everything. It's everything I would have wanted from a spin-off with a younger cast. I'm obsessed with this universe!
The US version doesn't compare to the original -- definitely wouldn't cause me to miss an entire night's sleep like the Danish version (hint: don't start watching in the evening unless you want to see sunrise). Love the way they morphed the ending of each episode to serve as a next-episode-preview-without-spoilers effect, always that same music with the characters having different revelations. I must've rewound a minute or so at least twice at the end of each episode just to admire the technique.
Scandi-Noir at its' best, I like how their actors look and act as someone in their scenarios might -- less emphasis on wardrobe, hair & makeup with a huge effort in writing and acting. This one, Broen | Bron, and Äkta Människor are among my favorites, all of which have English-speaking remakes that pale in comparison.
This was really good. Plenty questions throughout the 6 episodes that were answered in the last one.
It wasn't as predictable as others have said.
Solid 8/10
Why is every show voted on before it premieres?
Did all 3 voters get to see it beforehand? Otherwise: Stop voting!!!
That being said, I like Cush Jumbo, so I'll give it a shot.
An awesome mini series with top notch actors.
Loved it. If you like police mysteries don't miss this BBC mini series.
