I watched the more recent remake when it first came out and it was tolerable.I wanted to check this out thinking that the original would have had to be at least as, if not more entertaining. 10 minutes in and I cannot bear to listen to this man cackle one more time. I get that the drunken laughing is supposed to be annoying but it's too much. It gave the movie more of an over the top stage performance of what someone who has never been drunk would assume an obnoxious drunk person behaves like. I don't think I can make it to the end of this trainwreck.
Clearly a personal project for writer/director/star Chris Rock, Top Five isn't quite a comedy and isn't quite a drama. It nestles snugly, firmly into the in-between, dispensing funny little slices of life alongside serious, self-searching notes about midlife insecurity and the desire to make something more of yourself.
Rock basically plays himself, a longtime comedy superstar who worries that his silly wide-appeal earlier works have trapped him in a vicious cycle of self-loathing and alcoholism. His character is grounded and real, afraid to play anything for big laughs because the pressure to meet earlier comedy heights is so crippling. For the most part, it's the story of his swift rapport and burgeoning relationship with a tailing New York Times reporter (Rosario Dawson), which clicks on all cylinders. The two work so well together, it can be enjoyable just watching them interact over the inconsequential, and that's the real draw.
Don't go in expecting riotous laughs; it's funny, but also sweet, and an effective stepping stone to broader subjects.
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. As a huge Disney fan, I have noticed that some recent live-action adaptations were leaning towards a more commercial direction that didn't resonate with me. However, this one exceeded all my expectations, particularly with Halle's portrayal of Ariel. Her voice is TRULY remarkable, paying a beautiful tribute to Jodi Benson, and her acting is pure, sweet, and perfectly suited for Ariel! She embodies the essence of the Little Mermaid, and the movie itself is a captivating, well-directed tribute to the beloved 1989 original. Without a doubt, it has secured a place as one of my favorite Disney live-actions!
'The Little Mermaid' perfectly hits that sweet spot between reinvention and nostalgia. Halle Bailey is easily the standout. Her rendition of Part of Your World is magical. This is one of Disney’s best live-action reimaginings to date.
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘The Little Mermaid’:
Halle Bailey IS Ariel. She was absolute perfection. From voice to vibe, she captured her essence impeccably. I believe a star has officially been born.
Melissa McCarthy had veryyy gargantuan tentacles to fill. And I think Pat Carroll would’ve been incredibly pleased with what she did with her sea witch.
I thought they built upon the original film’s story in all the right ways. Fleshing it out to make a little more sense. Providing more substance. While not everything was picture perfect, it worked and gave fresh magic to a beloved story.
Bonus Thought: I thought it was a fantastic movie to look at, especially under the sea. Gorgeous colors and visuals. Eye candy all around. And that includes Jonah Hauer-King. :pound_symbol:snack
The whole cast was really well chosen, but Malek...Oh, Malek did just a phenomenal job here! He really shows his caliber as an actor, absolutely worth seeing!
I don't get the hype. I honestly haven't been so bored by a horror in a long time.
It feels like it's been a hot minute since Hollywood released a romcom. I just saw it yesterday in the theater with my sister and we loved it. Lots of fun and laughing out loud!
Enjoyed this loads. made me laugh lots! pretty predictable but enjoyable. Great cast.
Lame that so many negative reviews act like Invisible Man is over the top woke. Just because it’s about a woman learning to take control of her life. After being in a controlling relationship. Also because she has a black bestfriend she lives with ?
An invisible stalker was a clever idea and fresh. The movie pulls that off extremely well.
It starts of pretty well, but then it gets better and better. There are a few places where the logic is a bit thin (not saying it doesn’t make sense, but you have to give it some leeway), and there are a few too many comedic touches for my taste, but other than that, this is a terrific film, powered by an Oscar worthy Elizabeth Moss (who won’t get nominated of course, because it’s not that type of film) and a talented director who will have Hollywood producers begging at his door after making this for a mere 7 million.
8/10
More of a thriller than horror but it's great. Elisabeth Moss is really good at playing an unstable woman. The action is awesome and shot well. The plot has a few shocking moments.
The opening scene was tense, heartbreaking, confusing, and shows the evil and disdain that humans can treat one another with which is scary in itself. The movie is all downhill from there. Perhaps if you watch this ironically, you might see the humour behind the horribly crafted creatures that show up later in the film, I did. However, it will remain one of the worst "horror" movies I have ever had the displeasure of sitting through.
that was a strange movie about evil leprechaun with some funny moments.
doubt I'll ever watch it again to be honest
This year started with $hitty movie
one straight hour of listening to a baby cry. This was so bad.
Assuming that this is intentionally meant to be camp is doing it a service it doesn’t deserve, I think.
Yes, there’s goofy and trashy stuff in it, but they play it mostly straight with the presentation, i.e. most of this feels like it’s trying to be an actual movie. It’s not as over the top and entertaining as it needed to be, like it’s certainly no Malignant or Drag me to Hell.
Instead, it’s one of the dullest experiences I’ve had in a long time.
All of the actors are instant razzie frontrunners (especially Allison Williams, holy shit what a trainwreck of a performance) and the writing constantly veers between human dialogue as interpreted by aliens (or M Night Shyamalan), and unintentionally (yes, unintentionally) funny garbage. I know it’s unintentional, because the intentional jokes that are worked into the script aren’t funny at all.
The story is of course laughable and completely predictable. So many unnecessary, boring scenes, as well as quick bits that are clearly aimed to just be memes on TikTok. Even the crazy stuff felt fairly restrained to me, it’s not nearly bonkers enough to become entertaining. For example, don’t go into this expecting more of the dance sequence, because all of the best bits are in the trailer.
Finally, the filmmaking and visual style are instantly forgettable. Not a single interesting shot or artistic choice in the whole thing.
In short, nothing fun or clever about it, just very typical January horror kitsch that was probably only greenlit as a tax write-off for Jason Blum.
1.5/10
Great end to that story, but definitely should have just been combined with the first part to call it a "movie". That aside, every single beat of this episode was on point and the different stories worked together quite well.
They totally nailed the Go Pi! With Pipi+ voice part where it gets really enthusiastic at the end of "plus". I'm also very happy with the direction they took Randy in this episode. I'm betting we're going to see a lot of cool things come from him soon now that he's doing geology again.
For Cartman, there was just the right balance between resolving his breast implants story and leaving it open for some resolution between him and his mom in future episodes. And, it was great to see him, Tolkien, and Butters doing things. His story was way more fun this time and I enjoyed how it played a part in the ending.
Not much of Kyle, Kenny, and Stan in this episode, but Stan (and his whole family) really liked seeing Randy smiling at the table doing geology stuff. That was insanely wholesome, and I couldn't help but smile with them.
This is great South Park, and they did a fantastic job! I'm real excited for what's next for South Park!
From the comments it seems I am the only one that thought this was terrible. I couldn't even finish it. It hops from one nonsensical scene to the next and doesn't actually tell the story well...which is a pretty silly detail to mess up when the movie is actually a narration. I'd give it a zero but both Cruise and Pitt looked delicious in this so I had to be a little bit generous. All in all my advice to anyone thinking of watching it is, your time is better spent building a time machine to go back in time and rip the screenplay to shreds before anyone makes this atrocity of a movie.
nothing special about this.weak story line
One of the worst "horror" movies I have ever suffered through.
How is it possible that they managed to make this movie worse than 11/11/11? It's not even possible to watch it ironically. Just like the first installation, it is full of terrible acting and foolishness in the script and storyline. But where this one takes the cake is in the writers thinking that it was a good idea to have a woman endure sexual abuse from her dead husband , and even more disturbingly have a scene where the baby is performing filacio on its mother . Even if the baby is supposed to be the spawn of Satan or Satan himself , that is just sick and depraved. Terrible film all around.
Don’t, dont’, don’t. This is the worst movie I have EVER saw. It’s so bad and disgusting. And I though American Poltergeist was the worst. How wrong I was.
I enjoyed this much more than I was expecting. Sudekis is up there with my favourite SNL cast members and he didn't disappoint.
Jen was... just... wipes drool. She's great with comedy and I really enjoyed seeing her working with Jason (previously in Horrible Bosses together).
Easy and enjoyable to watch. Throw it on next time you're in the mood to laugh mindlessly.
ps - watch the outtakes... certainly worth it.
Really funny movie. A bit crude, but still funny. Plus Jennifer Aniston... you know what I'm sayin'?
I wish i could understand the hype and praise around this movie but i felt myself just wanting it to end. I wasn't impressed by the gore, camerawork or editing like others have. The plot sure wasn't nothing to rave about and differentiate itself from just about any other slasher film.
Jesus this bad… Like, WW84 bad…. Like, Cats bad… Like, Jack & Jill bad…. Like, Paul Blart bad…
50 minutes in and I'm bored to tears. I get that it's supposed to be all artsy but seriously I don't get how this is a horror.
What a load of utter garbage, whoever made this is sick in the head.
:heart:x4
Bottom line - don't waste your time. The story itself was mediocre at best. The pacing, however, was horrible. The whole thing moved in slow-motion.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
