I've had an amazing experience watching the movie premiere in Venice, I've been waiting for this movie for a long time and I was not disappointed in the slightest.
It's a gorgeous movie, it's disturbing but moving at the same time, violent at times, but also subtle. It's a different and fresh spin on the character and on the cinecomic genre as a whole and Phoenix delivers an amazing performance portraying a version of the Joker we've never seen before, he's not the villain of someone else's story, he is the hero and villain of HIS own story, and the audience can be orrified by him, but we can't help but feel for him at times.
Without giving anything away I would recommend to go and see the movie not expecting to go and see an action packed, but gritty cinecomic, I suggest going in and watch it pretending that it's not even about a famous comic villain, but simply a movie, I think that people will appreciate it more in that way, not comparing it to the cinecomics we've seen before, but thinking of it as a normal movie.
P.S.: People will of course compare Phoenix to Ledger, I don't think it's possible, they give a totally different percormance because they portray totally different versions of the character, and I think it's going to be hard to compare them, you either prefere Ledger's version or Phoenix's but only based on the character, the actor's performances cannot be judged by comparison, they're both great. Just enjoy the movie
What an experience! It was magnificent and really powerful. Brilliant lead actor.
Finally a movie that tells their real story, a movie that doesn't glorify Bonnie and Clyde but pictures them for what they were - criminals. I don’t know how they were glorified for what they done. Woody Harrelson and Kevin Costner were pretty good!
I really adore this movie. I don't really care if it's predictable or not. I laughed and I had a great time.
Most remakes don’t live up to the original. But certainly this one surpasses all the previous ones. Proof of it, it’s the fact that I have never been able to watch a musical without walking out until l watched this movie.
The movie shows how much Lady Gaga has grown as an artist, probably becoming the best and most versatile voices of the XXI yet. She is able to reinvent herself every other day in a way very few artists throughout history have been to do it.
I was not a “fan” of her. She made me curious when I heard her duets with Tony Bennett, but now after seeing her ”natural looks” and the way she is able to sing and act, she has finally won me over.
I would advise not passing on either the movie or original sound track.
Although the movie is predictable, like most romance comedies are, nevertheless it was sweet. It may not be the best romantic comedy I have seen but the movie still holds lots of charm.
Was this made by a film student? Checking on IMDB shows an estimated budget of $100,000 but that doesn't mean the story has to suck!
What this film gets right is completely negated by what it gets wrong: unanswered questions. The classic suspense build-ups are there: creaking doors, turn-around surprises, and questionable characters. I admit, I really liked the slow tension ascension - I couldn't tell if it was ghosts, or a maniac killer, or just in the mind of the main character(s). But then they pour on more slow walking to scary area gimmicks and you just want to get past it, thinking: Okay, okay....I get it!
Then, in the last 2 minutes of the movie, we find out nothing. This is one of the absolute worst things you can to your audience: leave 'em hanging with no hint of resolution. This is why they suggest in film school to tell your story orally over and over again to people. If someone told me this story the way it was reflected on screen, I would say, "You got quite a turd on your hands there, wtf happens?! Go back and think it over, there is potential there."
This movie will leave you frustrated and I wouldn't recommend it. Instead, watch The Others for a good mind-f*&$# ending!
taron gives an amazing performance as elton! the film creatively merges the biopic with the musical in such a fun, refreshing, and visually pleasing way. i love the well-crafted blend of the reality of elton's life with the more magical and spectacular musical performances
Make no mistake. This is not a great movie. But somehow I enjoyed it. Maybe it's a combination of Dolby Vision + good music. It's just beautiful to look at. I would definitely watch the sequel Ibiza 2: Tokyo!
A brash and exuberant musical; not unlike Elton himself, then! I enjoyed the film more than I expected - I'm more of an admirer of Elton's songs than the man himself - this is a well-made and creative piece that can be appreciated by fans and non-fans alike.
It's hard to believe that a movie with this cast based on a figure hated this deeply could somehow result in a miss, but this movie is an absolute mess. The movie struggles tremendously to pick a tone, often seesawing between parody, sarcasm, and deep drama. It comes across as a parody of itself. With a figure like Cheney it's amazing that you can mess it up.
On top of this, the film is more fiction than fact, and it actively works to create screen time of someone's fever dream rather than historical events. It is an insult to the audience.
Other than having a talented cast this film offends the senses, even for the larger of Cheney haters. A complete disaster of cinema.
Finely nuanced drama is both hopeful and despairing. In the end, we are reminded of a common truth. Not everybody is good and not everybody is bad. Then there are those who fall in between. A very good film, with much to recommend it.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE This movie, it's one of my all time favorites!
I was expecting a little more action and a bigger shootout but I’ll let it of by it basing it on true events. I thought kevin & woody made a good team. It was over all a decent film and worth a watch but did drag a little.
My favourite movie. I have watched it countless times.
The Proposal is a good comedy but like with most rom coms it goes downhill once it crosses the midway point and gets serious when the protagonists begin to fall in love. The bickering and the fighting in the beginning that's where the movie's real strength lies. Bullock and Reynolds have great chemistry and the way they go back and forth made me laugh a couple of times. Still no regrets. Sandra Bullock is one of the very very few actresses in Hollywood who can pull off a comedy as well as a drama.
Carey Mulligan is the reason this film caught my attention. This is a savage tale of war, hate, brutal racism, hope and love. Great acting. Riveting storytelling if uncomfortable content. This film also employs an interesting narrative style I've not seen before, where the various characters, in turn, narrate their points of view - it was very effective, especially the two voices that conclude the story arch. I give this film a 7.5 (poignant) out of 10. [Historical Drama]
Tasteful duration, which allowed pretty intense and detailed firefight scenes. I felt this was a really great action movie, but it didn't quite feel like a 'war' movie. An excellent performance from Chris Hemsworth, especially for a role he's not typically in (military).
Masterful for its time, and still timeless today.
Some excellent performances, in a movie that smartly makes light of the whole situation. It's interesting to see all sides of the story, and it helps build a better understanding of what actually happened and what kind of people these are. I was entertained.
Netflix has been great at original tv shows for a while but they are really stepping up their game with their original movies recently. Mudbound is fantastic. It's a little longer but never drags. It hooks you and you really start to care for the characters. Really great performances by Jason Mitchell and Garrett Hedlund. Hopefully Netflix keeps this up this quality with their original movies.
Good solid thriller. I like Jennifer Lawrence. I think she is a chameleon and this role proves it. Great cast, superb twists and turns, with a few fake outs (in what I thought were the culminating scenes of the film, something went sideways, and I thought, "Shoot! They just crashed the logic of the whole plot!. But I was fooled. I was wrong in what I thought had happened, and the final twist was entirely unexpected, leaving me rather impressed with the writing). I give this a 7 (good) out of 10. Nudity and sexuality. [Espionage Thriller]
I disagree with the previous comment. I think the story is unique (I did not read the book) and beautifully told. I was extremely invested throughout.

Based On A Real Life Incident
Although there are several films that I would rank in the top ten best of all time, this is probably my favorite, and is a good past time to watch that never lets me down. As many times as I've seen this film (and it's a lot), it never fails me; with tears, laughter and excellent acting and reality. Julia Roberts, as I recall was nominated for her portrayal as a young woman with diabetes, and in my opinion, should have won for this and not for "Erin Brockovich". But, the real gem and overlooked one in the movie is Sally Field. This is by far and away, her best role and performance she ever snagged, and nailed, and I rank her performance in this as one of my top five best performances in motion picture history of all time.
All the characters and performances in this are excellent, including one such, by Daryl Hannah, who I don't care for, but love in this movie. In fact, her character Anell, is the only role I've ever liked her in, and applaud her work in it.
Among the cast there are very few men, but my favorite is Tom Skerrit, who plays Sally Field's husband, and father to Julia Robert. Shirley MaClain, Olympia Dukakis, and Dolly Parton are the other three co-stars, that follow behind the three previous, and all make their characters unique.
The basis of the film, is a beauty parlor, and although it might sound hokey, it's really not. Some might call it a chick flick, but I have to say that I know men have even gotten teary-eyed from this film. It's wonderfully directed, only in that, it makes you feel apart of the never ending friendship that's between this group of women. The experiences that they have and the trials and tribulations they go through. Although not the whole movie is set in the hair salon, a good portion of the film is, but it is done in just the right amount, and is written very well.
I recommend it for girls of all ages, and men who want to impress their girlfriends with a great flick for a Friday night. It is one of the best films of all time, and if for no other reason, you should watch this merely to see the performance Sally Field gives, because it is amazing.
I believe this is my third time watching this movie, and I still love it! Easily my favorite Cinderella movie ever. It always leaves me with warm, happy feelings. Definitely a movie to watch time and time again. Honestly, fairytale love stories never get old
Cuuuuuute movie! Love Minnie Driver...
It move me the scene where Lee lost his family and since that moment he couldn't keep forward.
I was pretty ambivalent about this film through the first half but then it pulled me in towards the end.

I was really excited for this. Although it did not disappoint, it did not match the expectations either
