10/10 a damn good film
Most other people will probably give it a 5/10 and that’s fine, this movie isn’t going to work for the majority of viewers….
It’s a love story told in a different way to how I’ve ever seen before and if you look into it very deeply you will see it loosely follows the normal format, man and woman meet, slowly fall in love, split up and then at the last minute come back together again.
The thing is this movie is very subtle about it, it’s more of a story about how we all have messed up and broken up with people that seemed to be just right, the mistakes we have made and how it scares us all.
There are two very sad moments were you will start to well-up, but it doesn’t linger on them for long and pulls you back to the story.
No over acting, just simple depictions.
Good storytelling, but simply done.
Subtle music, just there in the background.
Well timed, not drawn out or hastily done.
So yes 10/10 is maybe over the top, but I’m ready to watch this again very soon and would happily rewatch it many times in the future…..
Plus, I wouldn’t mind there being a follow up to it sometime, think there’s plenty to still be explored here…
4-10 poor
I watch every episode, hoping, praying, pleading that it would get better or maybe improve……
It just didn’t!!!!
Now I like slow moving thought provoking drama, but this takes slow moving to a whole new level, it basically sends you to sleep and just as your nodding off, a action scene pops up to wake you up.
Thing is the action is few and far in between and your heart rate doesn’t go up with it…..
Out of the all the episodes only one stands out and that’s the last one, there might be one more episode but I can’t say I can pick one of the top of my head.
Yes it focuses heavily on the relationship side of things, but the couple are boring and uninteresting, John might have been alright, but Jane was such a bitch and boring as hell that the character sucked all the life out of the relationship and the show itself….
Yes I did watch it all, every single episode, why???
Just pure hope and wanting it to work, hoping that the next episode it will finally kick off, but it didn’t…..
Some how the last few minutes of each episode came to life and gives you what the whole episode should have been like, but minutes at the end of each 50-60min show won’t save it…..
9/10 as it was…..
10/10 if they had aged them just a little bit!
14 episodes at 30mins long and I’ve binge watched it all in one day, couldn’t stop……
A love story told over 20yrs, each episode being the same day on each year…..
Nothing to much happens with each episode, other then daily life, the ups and downs that we go through in-between the years of each episode, takes you on this journey without overpowering you.
It’s all just the right amount to keep you watching and wanting to come back for more, going through the highs and lowers of their life’s over the 20yrs.
At episode 9, I began to realise where we were going and what the ending might be, at episode 11, it was sent in stone and just had to wait to find out how we would get to the ending.
At episode 13, the true story is released for you to see, even though you don’t really want to know it by then.
Episode 14, is wonderful, it pulls all the past episodes and storytelling together and breaks you in two….
P.s my only very small criticism is that no effort was really made to age them over the twenty yrs, you don’t need to go over the top, but small changes with haircuts and colour, facial hair, small laughter lines and other thing would have helped.
P.s.s well, now to watch the 2011 film of the same story….
10/10
As they say in the write up about the show “nothing is what it seems”
With this show that is precisely what you get, do not trust what you see and hear, because they will twist it, turn it on you and then laugh in your face.
They will scream at you “sucker” punch you in the stomach and then tell you that you can trust them and you will, only for them to pull the wool over your eyes once again!!!!
I’m a clever man and I can almost tell you what’s going to happen in most shows very very few can catch me out, this bloody show has caught me out time and time again and I’m loving it….
The one and only thing I could possibly quibble about is that the first two episodes hit all the buttons and are top notch, each episode that followed are missing that one little bit “ whatever that is?” To keep them up there with the rest.
I think if they had reduced the season by just one episode then there would have been enough in each episode to bring them up to that same level….
Don’t get me wrong this is still a 10/10 show, but it so easily could have been a 11/10
6/10 “FAIR”
Yes it’s a good show and I enjoyed watching it, but for some reason the concept has left me a bit cold and unsure about it.
Shows like the mole and the traitors I love, I enjoy the idea of having to fool someone and manipulating the situation.
But this show goes further and allows the contestants to go full on evil and to demonstrate pure selfishness.
I am glad that no one from team alpha won, it would have been an injustice if they had…..
At one point I just wanted them gone, but in the end I was glad to see the two evil Bitches go right to the end, only to lose…..
Any one that know those two witches in real life, should never trust them ever again!
Yes I realise the game almost called for it and yes in a real world survival situation, most of us would do the same if it meant you got to live!
But this is a game and to do that to someone for money is pure greed and evil….
Yes I would watch another season of it, but if the format remained the same I think I would make it my last one.
Add more challenges/rewards, even have it that the losers of them forfeit items to make it harder,
Have them pile up the personal items at risk so that the production team blow them up when they lose, that way it’s the game doing it, not the contestants…..
well, i thought id wait until we got to the end of the season to right a review.
the first episode was a good start and looked like it could go somewhere, gave you just what you needed to keep coming back for more. sadly the following 4 episodes became boring and you were left with the feeling that you where treading water, but then it was as if the writers had noticed their mistakes and turned the show totally on its head. i loved the turn around and the alternate world story line, to see the complete change in the characters from the two different worlds was so enjoyable....
the last 3 episodes, especially the final one, seemed rushed as if they just wanted to get to the enterprise cliffhanger as soon as possible.
for me personal id rather, season 1 had gone to the alternate world by episode 4 and had stayed there until the final episode, leaving us with the cliffhanger of them returning back to their world but at a slightly different time, season 2 would then be taking up with the story of where they have ended up and the bring about of peace and giving us the enterprise as the season 2 cliffhanger...
so this all said, i enjoyed the new show, its a nice little twist on the original and other spin off shows. but i do agree with some other people that it could have almost have been a totally new syfi show in its self and has maybe just used the STAR TREK brand to just give it a boost!
I WILL BE BACK FOR MORE...
7/10 good
The pilot started of good and gave the show some promise!
Around episode 5 you start to wonder if it’s just going to be an average, sit down and enjoy, nothing to taxing kind of show.
Then from episode 8 it starts to pick up and truly go somewhere, with each following episode it steps up a gear and pulls you in a little more, the writers find their feet and begin to understand who the characters should be and what the audience might like!!!!
Episodes 11,12,13 are top notch and the best of the season and have you wanting the next episode as soon as possible, with these episodes the show goes totally in a direction that you didn’t see coming or even expect…..
To be honest, I don’t even think the writers knew quite where it was going to go or at least to what Extent……
But someone got it right, and knew how to rip those heartstrings to pieces, can I stop crying now!!!!!!!
Will there be Oscar’s?
NO
Will there be any awards?
NO
Will this ever be a 100% solid gold show?
NO
Will you remember it and look forward to a new season, with a better budget and over all approach to the show??????
HELL YES!!!!!!
P.s and the next season just might get a 8/10 which I think is the best it will ever be able to get.
6/10 fair
Think I’ve over marked this movie????
I know nothing about the short story that this is based on, but I believe it’s meant to be a bit of a feminist movie.
I also believe that we are meant to see Robert as a creep and as the baddie in the film, instead for me it’s totally the opposite and it’s the female that I end up hating….
Yes Robert as a character is a bit of a loner and definitely has Communication problems coming from being a movie nerd. Confusing what he sees on the big screen with real life and all it’s complexity.
But by the end of the movie, it’s the female I ended up hating and almost came across as the predator in the movie.
Yes Robert lost it at the end of the movie and definitely overreacted to the situation, but it was totally understandable when you look at how he’s mind sees the world and how it plays out, via movies…..
Is he right in he’s actions?
NO
But some how it’s understandable and I ended up feeling sorry for him and somehow understanding he’s actions.
We’re as with the female, I could see her making all the same mistakes, over and over again in the future and almost bringing it all onto herself…..
100/10 masterpiece
I have no knowledge of the anime/manga history of this storyline and from what I have read by those that do, this has done a good job and kept the true core of the story alive in this show….
The first 10 minutes it was what the hell is this crazy, off the wall, madness that I’m watching????
Then at minute 11 it clicked in to place….
It’s something that is totally different, never seen before, it doesn’t make 100% sense and it doesn’t have too….
The young lead cast do exceptional well in their performances and our very well supported by the mature supporting cast members, keeping it well balanced and bringing the much needed balance and depth that would have been missing otherwise…..
With the lite touch of comic inspired scenery and actions, followed up with the one good fight scene per episode, you just smile and learn to enjoy this well crafted gem of a show….
Also, everyone is treated equally, no forced woke pc bullshit here, just good honest fun and attitude on display.
With everyone playing a part in what is the best show of its type I’ve seen…..
Bring on season 2 please and here’s to what’s going to be a great career for the lead actor, full of charm, charisma, talent and a face you just want to pinch and go “cocci goo”
7/10 GOOD
I can totally understand other people not getting this show and scoring it low, it’s a very unique show, it’s historical but with a hint of modern vernacular….
The dialogue is long and slow at times with loads of pauses and made up on the hoof, giving it a realistic honest at times.
The dialogue also very modern but with just the smallest amount of historical wording used, which is fine and for me made it more realistic and relevant, you could easy lift these characters and storyline and place them all in a housing estate backdrop and it would easily work, with little to no changes…..
The costumes and settings Are as accurate as they can be just without the stuffy perceived behaviour of the time.
My only complaint is the three episodes was to short, should have been 4 at minimum, 6 at max.
We could have had one episode of he’s story before returning home, they could easily have stretched the story we got over an extra episode as well and then given us one more showing us the good results from their actions….
P.S I do have one other gripe, the BBC’s insistence on having their woke pc quotas.
1) a coloured family that just wouldn’t have been so prominent at that time or as accepted as they were in this show.
2)people with learning difficulties again given such prominence, once again they would have probably been hidden away or sent to work houses and that’s if they would have been allowed to have a life.
7/10 good
Downton abbey it isn’t
Jane Austin faithful it isn’t
But it does manage to give us a good period piece to watch……
Yes some modern day standards and believes have been shoehorned in, but they managed to do it without being overly blatant about.
Yes you can sit there and pick away at the accuracy of storylines, costumes and many other things, but the writers have managed to weave it all together and just about fit.
Season one, was a good start and had the unfinished book to work from…
Season two, needed to deal with the lose of one of its main characters and did lose its way a little…
Season three, was a great improvement and very very heartwarming and did manage to find its feet again. Sadly it did start to lay on the pc/woke a little heavy handily, but each time it was briefly done and moved on!!!
It’s a shame it’s came to an end, I think it could have gone 1 or 2 more seasons from where it was left….
P.s the very fine scene was not needed, it was put in to please the pc/woke/feminists out there….
For me it took away from the splendid slow motion scene prior, which was the true ending….
7/10 GOOD
Just found the show and quickly catching up!
The acting is generally ok-good, can’t say there’s a bad interpretation of any of the characters.
I can see why some would find it slow, but for me it’s nicely paced and slowly reviles the storyline.
Effects are generally good and I found myself invested in all the characters, both the goodies and the baddies!
I’m on episode 7 of the 1st season and hopefully will enjoy the one yet to come, who knows the score might even manage to creep up to a 8/10….
I haven’t read any of the books it’s based on so have nothing to compare it to for adaptation, but if I was to criticise it in any way, it would have to be that there’s a pinch of woke pc nonsense in it but it tends to be short and sweet, each time it happens.
The only other thing is they definitely wanted to cram in as many nationalities as possible, which is fine and not a problem, but the are all mixed up and from the same places.
When world building it helps to give areas/zones/nations their very own identity, rather then one big melting pot….
Let me start off by saying if you’ve watched all your other shows and you have nothing else to watch then give this show a go!
I personally got about a quarter of the way through and wanted to give up but I’ve managed to stay with it until the end.
The story has been told so many times before and in so many better ways, The colour theme two episode has been done before and been done better, The non-chronological order format has been done before and has been done a lot lot better.
There’s just two little changes but needed to be made to make this from a average show to a okay show.
1) put the episode in chronological order
2) cut out the scenes of what the daughter did during the heist “white episode” and place them at the end of what would now be the last episode “the pink episode”.
Have the father call he’s daughter at the end like he did with her asking him to visit and him agreeing to go, at the end of the call cut to the daughter and add a new scene “her talking to her partner” they talk about the heist and we then have the extra scenes of what they did and how they got the deeds/certificates, go back to them talking to each other and have the camera pan round to the heist cases still stacked up behind them….
Now cut to the Father packing his suitcase to go and see the daughter followed by the tunnel and shooting scene…..
This will leave 90% of the audience scratching their head over who shot him and wanting to know the answers, only the eagle eyed viewers knowing the answer……
