A dramatic and some what of a thrilling movie, romanticizing the idea of what it means to be a chef and what does mean to be someone or expect something in a world for more than what it is the real value. While the movie surrounds it's plot exploring that point of view, the message and the meaning is entangled in this humbled girl's life, were her expectations flourish making her realize what she had all the time was there everyday, all along.
This is one of those unique movies that has encapsulated every little detail of what you know about coming of age stories about love and friendships. Fill with a vivid youthful adventurous storyline that trough time, became a mature representation of the realities most true love stories end up being. Fantastic slice of life.
Topics such as this, are a great challenge to portrayed; more so when it explored two subjects as daring to come to terms with such a plot line. After seeing this movie I wondered and imagined how the director really struggled with these laborious themes in the way he handled them. This movie has a flawless and clear as day messages.
1) How raw events turned the protagonist so vengeful with a cold-hearted persona but, let's be honest, not all women that goes through this become their own "heroes" like that, if you can even think of them in that term, because the ones that end up committing heinous crimes as revenge, is not as novelists as the movie. Let alone the traumatic after effect in their lives.
2) More so in an environment that struggles to be fair and just in a world of hard conditioning. Where even the police work does come across to be that incompetent, one always wants to believe in just processes. It sure does have a clear statement that in the way most of the times the unfavorable accomplishments of law ends up being so detrimental.
The ending and what leads to it in moments before, was the greatest theatrical closing curtain to it all. Each character from the main lead, antagonist and supporting character were the clear cut and dry statements. Overall was a great experience to watch, and what experience; more so with performances that really were exceptional. Let alone with a movie that surely seemed to have a low budget and yet, manage to capture what was intended to say from start to finish with clearest intentions to the main theme. "어떤 살인" "What Kind of Murder".
A very emotional and self sacrifice plot for what matters most, a family. This movie is quite simple but a very touching story of this small family and their relationships hindered by a past standing as a foothold to what plot reveals. Great movie, with great story.
This movie is a debute by Yoon Dan Bi, also known as an actress with small roles in dramas like: "Life", "Criminal Minds" and the hit Kdrama "The World of the Married". Which was a quite the drama if I add.
This movie opens up in midst of a move out with a delicate and sour music by Shin Joong Hyun but sang by Lim Ah Young titled 미련 / "lingering regret" / "regret" which encapsulates the movie and their characters captivating the first minutes of the movie. And so by the end of the movie credits, the same song is sang by Kim Choo Ja as it gives the movie a different tone and feeling. Everything in this movie flows very methodical and slow, as it's intended with this type of written scripts. Which doesn't take away the importance of the movie more so for viwers that appreciate a movie such as this, particularly when a movie like this represents the normal life of a family that moves out of a place that once was called home.
If you are one of these potential viewers that in your life you've experience moving out a place to another while figuring how your life will turn out while growing up. This movie will make you feel relatable but nostalgic to the core. Feeling familiarities while watching how these ordinary family goes with their life while moving on and moving in has been portrayed, will make you think when you wheren in similar situation. Will feel personal. This movie opened up many memories when I was a kid, experiences and moments in my life while I was always moving from place to place and never settling into anywhere way after I've grown up.
The movie sure is an experience, that will be cherished more for those who have gone trough this somewhat similar process, in some personal way while watching this movie. Knowing that being in the early stages of life, not having a permanent place, creates character trough this typical process of life. This movie perhaps will not be for everyone, but atleast if you care to see it, give yourself a change to appreciate this simplistic and humbled work from what Yoon Dan Bi did here. Because is worth the mention and recommendation.
Great film with a beautiful soundtrack going hand in hand with a plot that while being simple, it captivates the narrative by how everything played out at the end.
Top notch entertainment from start to finish. A great fun comedic action film where everyone in the movie played a key role where their characteristics made them unique and excited to see. Very versatile characters on screen.
It has been a while since I saw a movie of this caliber of writing. When a movie exposed the main lead psychology dilemmas, into an trilling interwoven atmospheric plot, which even becomes part of the ground-base to her character structure and development throughout a deep rooted thrilling fill with atmospheric scenes to scenes. It gave an incredible fulfilling expectation with this mood into a fantastic unexpected turnaround of a twist that even though it feels well known, the way it was handled was a surprisingly excellent take of the genre. When the plot is accompanied by one of the most outstanding uses of soundtrack, retaining the raw essence of this deep murder/crime drama mystery.
An epic tale brought back to life. When it comes to anticipation towards a finally, no other movie that I have seen, with same themes, has come close to something as in depth like what this movie just developed. A true dramatic infusion of complexity thrilling storytelling that concluded all of what it accomplished, by being if I might add, a masterful work of all that it set out to interpret.
This movie showcased one of the most hardening subjects regarding this heartbreaking disease in the most raw vivid and honest way possible. I think with one of the most outstanding acting by how Seo Hyun-Jin portrayed someone with this type of health condition, very heavy as melancholic, with an atmospheric build up being represented with such pure hopelessness and sorrow. The movie truly is a gut punch, with a gasp of emotive emotions deliberately representing a view of support and care when families become the compass for those who goes trough this. Very nice delivery compensated with its own title. Very elegant and carefully crafted story full of this unavoidable void and lamentable wholesome sentimentalism.
Double the fun, double the action and double the trouble with one more detective making it more dynamic. With your regular funny family squabbles to laugh at times, taking down the bad guys with a very similar theme as the first movie, but with a more straight forward plot than the first one, making the previous feel more grounded and matured in comparison since neither the previous writer and director worked on this one.
A very solemnly thorough movie, with a somber heavy begging and a breath of fresh air at the end. With a respectful and delicate tell about how being alone could be a benefactor aspect of life, or this silent distressing conflict. When oneself is trapped by this lonesome psychological horror which life and its circumstances become more that should. Likewise how one can take the advantage of it by winning that battle.
A great scripted plot starting up in the middle of everything or rather say, at the begging of it all giving how confusing on purpose the plot placed us viewers at current events. And so it goes this mystery action puzzle connection to understand how this character end up where he start at. It was a great watch no doubt about it, because it used a brand new concept that was the “head scratch” a captivated factor trough his process to understand how is that possible with the director’s written plot design.
Wow I really liked this one a lot. Well made heist movie with a great plot, I really liked that it does have a depth to it. With an ensemble of characters with unique personalities and aspirations and what holds it together, is this intriguing complex story which is the surprise of it all and how everyone play their part towards that end.
Enjoyable movie indeed. Above all, I liked the plot and the clear message about the special thing that is having family and taking care of them while they last. Beautiful, indeed beautiful movie.
This movie hit my feelings strongly and unexpectedly. While the movie take its time, exploring and revealing each characters motivations and life status with their own issues and environments to deal with as movie progresses from one another. That particular development was the movies plot strong trump card from what came next.
That was a great motivator for why and what things are the way they are, with each sister, and how end up the way each of them did understanding their behavior at the right moment.
Which worked as intended, going trough the movie's own motions that are basic structure but unexpectedly understanding everything at the right moment in a sequence least expected because the way everything was revealed, exposed and confronted. Slow, methodical and great movie.
Wow a movie which was very mature love story, really grounded in real life consequences and events that where a great catalyst for how closest it can be to a real life event. A really down to earth love and comforless story.
As simple a movie it is, that is what I love from it. A clear metaphor with wholesome message. Doing your best and giving it all to understand that even the smallest events in life are the ones that leads you to understand that life itself is not all about the prize, but the effort of living a life fulfilled with what matters most.
And that is what these kids in the movie represent, a whole faculty and system that even though push kids to do their best, which is not bad at all, but to what end, to what end it favors those who really have the will to exposed themselves without hindering them in process, being corporal or mentally. Great movie.
Dearest is one of the movies, which are as gut wrenching and emotionally as realistically driven as it was about a true story. Even though the material is as sensitive of a topic as it can get. So it shows, the work put into this material ensues all over the screen with real raw care, performances and not only of those true events, but with actors and actresses that embodied the real life persona of the ones that did get involved. Equally how the direction and the script also exposed dilemmas of politics, economy and policies which were told greatly intertwine with the plot not taking from it, but rather, adding to a well exposure to the big dilemma China encounters himself and those around it.
As the director himself, Peter Ho Sun Chan intended and succeeded. Creating an atmosphere all throughout. When it comes to the script, It goes to show how prepared this material was. More so in the second half for how things might end. It sure was an experience, all due to how the movie's atmospheric tone shifted to go hand in hand with the first half and second half of the movie giving two perspectives of this awful and agonizing event. The ending was so raw, that the whole take away from watching the movie in conclusion made it have that firm posture of what life is for many people and these events and their final outcomes.
What a great experience and memorable story that felt as secluded as personal, with performances that encapsulated an engaging sentimentalism about such topic as delicated as it can get, when it circles around family.
Great and pretty fascinating movie with your typical political plot. Satisfactory driven engaging scripted and dramatic themes, with strong and well grounded characters, everything felt very compelling.
What a super movie.
I would never though I would end up liking so much this movie and thinking would end up being so unique, fun, thrilling and beyond heartwarming story surrounding a well made written plot that was as intriguing and personal with a great showcase of sacrifices, deceit, bad decision with an outstanding antagonist that was not only the catalyst of what happen to the main protagonist but the arching story of both where so phenomenal. Truly a movie that was thought out in its smallest details to convey the great experience it offered.
Time flies and memories are the ones who stay with us while we grow. In this movie, the theme of what was portrayed in a decade where China was phasing a social cultural change while in the middle of a war, in a world where a group of young friends share more than memories together, sharing live itself which was the link to a incredible bond stronger and purest than ever imagine.
A beautiful movie indeed, because, here is where the two hours allow us to explore such decade emphasizing a particular emotional trait, nostalgic familiarity. With an incredible and real group of characters that as time pass by you get to experience an emotional dilemma that this young group of artist went trough. More so, when the final scenes explored with us what this whole meant for them as the movie came to a close.
This movie says much than words could ever, with a story as simple as it comes, but with a gut punch feeling on how the structure of the movie developed the core meaning of relationships and friendships that are entangled together. Even though time past by, and changes, but those who share such stories and connections stay the same.
When a group of kids involved themselves into the greatest heist in their lives, taking them into an unforgettable moment understanding what is worth the most despite their current live situation. This film was a blast and a great time spend with this charming kids and a story of family and what always matters most.
This film takes a well know genre and delivers the plot of “what if where real” in a believable realistic scenario, far from what has been know in other films that plays the thrilling fiction about time, past and present. That is one of the things holds the movie by being continuously engrossing with a cast that showcase truthful reactions of the every day person in this thrilling action fictional film.
A movie that took us trough a melancholy journey of imaginations and desires from a relashionship of these two characters but one never understood how to be open and let love change, culminating in a deep regret and hearts broken. Interesting way this movie handled the reveals it offered and more so accompanied by a gorgeous delicate cinematography as the story itself.
This film felt like a project to showcase the actors and actress skills in conversational interaction practices. It does reminded me some what of "The Table" where these characters meet and talk about subjects which the take-away of that movie was how the actors and actresses perform the scenes and their body language and facial expressions is essential part and main focus.
Slow and methodical film with a simple plot. There was an actress in this movie which did call my attention again, actress that I dint knew was in it to be honest, which is Lee Joo Young. This is the second movie I see that she partakes with a complete overhaul of her persona. The other movie being "Believer" where she does a mute character whose performance was great.
This movie was quite surprisingly a good 123 minutes of an action crime drama involving a detective in chase of a case regarding the biggest drug ring in South Korea. I could add it has his small bits of comedy, but the movie doesn't rely on it. The movie start in the middle of things that where in motion way before the knowledge of the viewer, meaning that as soon as the movie starts things are already in motion and happening while at the same time you get to catch up on what is really going regarding previous acurances. The plot move fast and to the point.
This movie has an big ensemble. But there is this one actress that call my attention, is an actress that has a somewhat of a semi minor role in this movie, the fact that if you do not know her from previous work/movies you wouldn't recognize her at all. Is Lee Joo Young. I saw her on the first Korean drama I watched called "Live" and a movie called "Miss Beak". Reminded me of these two actresses that I seen so far that have change not only the way they look but the way they carry themselves, actresses like Kim Hye Soo, in "Coin Locker Girl" and Son Ye Jin, in "The Truth Beneath".
Fantastic plot involving these two fresh out of police academy/school guys that out of nowhere are engaged into a radical altering live event witnessing a kidnapping, situation that will test both of their abilities in this exciting action, comedy and serious undertone movie.
