Really impressed at the level of detail and how little artistic license they took with Weird Al's story. You'd think they might try to spice it up a little, throw in some gratuitous sex and violence and drug use, but the producers really managed to avoid all that.
Got the opportunity to watch the preview screening and it was a roller coaster ride! One moment I'd be laughing and the next tearing up. I loved the relationships were portrayed in this film and the locations that the film was shot in were gorgeous.
I have to say that the best part for me personally was the very rare portrayal of America through the distrustful eyes of a foreigner who vehemently did not want to be there. The film also successfully pointed out the many assumptions and stereotypical perspectives that the average American has of Mexicans in a comical but thought-provoking way. Renato's journey was as much about accepting the role America had in his life (represented physically by his half-brother, Asher) as it was about getting closure with his father.
I had a fun time watching this film and would definitely was it together with my family when it releases.
Eh... For the first hour and a half, I'd say, the movie struggled to find footing. Adding the clueless old men and their drama, and leaving out Bethany for most of the adventure was a wrong move. Dwayne Johnson did horribly trying to impersonate Danny DeVito, but the slack was promptly picked up by Awkwafina, who did superbly as a grumpy grandpa. Kevin Hart as Danny Glover was okay - I actually chuckled a few times, - but not as funny as in the first film. I missed Jack Black as a ditsy cheerleader because his other character is completely forgettable. Karen Gillan, unlike in the Welcome to the Jungle, has little to work with. Her sole purpose here is to be hot and kick ass. I liked the action sequences (especially the monkey bridge one), but the rest was just meh. I really wish the writers found a better explanation for the characters ending up in the game again.
More of the same.
I have to spoil to comment unfortunately.
I didn't think the swaps worked. The slow talking Danny Glover and the Jersey boy Danny De Vito impressions by Kev and The Rock didn't work. Jack Black is usually hilarious but isn't here.
It's okay and entertaining enough but it's nothing spectacular or praiseworthy.
And I thought Danny De Vito was off his game here. Hammy and loud.
Some good CG, but a bit of a one-trick wonder. They'll need to step up the plot line for the inevitable 3rd instalment.
6.5/10
I didn't like this episode very much. They definitely took things too far and I think this was a very bad first episode because it doesn't at all represent the rest of the show. Thankfully I had heard very good things about it so I kept watching and the rest is a million times better.
as if the government would negotiate with terrorists.
The request from the terrorist- That the PM should fuck a pig is just unbelievable stupid. This episode is by far the worst shit I've seen on television at all.
PS: I want my wasted 45 minutes back
