WHYYYYY why why why why did they have to bring Archie and Veronica back together. Most bland, chemistry-devoid, toxic relationship on this show. Archie's relationship with Betty felt so much more natural. Archie and Veronica could both date outside the friend group, could they not? Can Veronica not have a spicy relationship with a new character? Someone she has actual chemistry with? Can Archie and Betty find people outside their circle? Can the writers not let Betty and Archie's exciting romance last because they're too uncreative to write Archie with anyone but Veronica? Why does everything always have to be between these four? And why does it always have to return to Archie and Veronica? Why can't they let the old boring relationships die? Shoot me. These writers suck
Anyway besides that, Jughead going crazy is a hilariously bad storyline. Kevin and Fangs' relationship has no stakes in it, because they barely get any screen time, so anything dramatic that happens between them isn't really impactful or affecting. Cheryl continues to be awful and vindictive and entitled and manipulative and she reeks of "peaked in high school and can't get over it". And she's so weird man. The party shit was so contrived and so strange and so obviously driven by some ulterior motive and everyone was just okay with it?
Really didn't enjoy this one.
better than the first episode, but not by much, it's still incredibly boring with characters you care nothing about. there is a scene right at the beginning of the episode where Iris struggles to kill 1 walker (i refuse to call them emptys) and rather than accept help from her 3 friends, continues to struggle till they both fall into a large ditch.
the walker impales itself on something, and when Iris attempts to finish it off, she throws up instead. deciding this is some kind of achievement, she turns to Hope and says "yeah, that's what you get" so annoying and arrogant. they next encounter another walker which they run away from because they are totally inept at killing walkers, only for the same walker to follow them and find them again despite the fact they are now up inside a treehouse
another attempt to kill it, this time by dropping a bowling bowl on its head also fails, so Hope later distracts it with a childs doll she sets on fire so she can go down and finish it off. want to know how that turns out? yes, you guessed it, she fails and has to settle for luring it into an empty swimming pool instead. and she can't even get that right either because it almost drags her down with it
at this point, our clueless heroes should have cottoned on to the fact that they absolutely suck at killing walkers, and when faced with making their way through hundreds of them, decide to turn back. NAH, Iris is like "we got this"
the walkers have been attracted by hundreds of burning tires and even though they make it safely through the first section, they realise there is much more ahead of them. they then settle down to sleep, surrounded by smoke from the burning tires when they should be coughing their lungs up
oh yeah, before i forget, we get some backstory on Nico and it turns out that he is gay and his parents were homophobic and kicked him out of the house, because it wouldn't be 2020 without labeling somebody in a tv show as homophobic right?
9.2/10 Another strong ep, I wont go on too long but I pretty much enjoyed all the scenes. The strongest parts for me being the Clarke and Octavia scenes when Octavia is willing to help and continue to go with Clarke to save Madi. One of the strongest scenes they had was in the cell where Octavia mourns bellamy a bit more and tries to remember the bellamy before the brainwashing, The bellamy she will remembers, I thought that was nice. Jordan scenes were also particularly interesting when they brought up the vison that he had in s6 , that he mentioned to Russell ( now Sheidheda) in 7x1 believing that this as his calling, another reason why I think Jordan will type in the code for the last war. I hope it is not bill that takes the last war. The madi MCap scenes were good, however i was honestly hoping to finally see what Becca saw when she typed in the code. Maybe in the finale we will finally see what she saw, and it unfortunately lead to the almost death of Madi, and that is really unfortunate cause i really wanted a happy ending for the surviving members of the Griffin family. The scenes where Clarke is crying over madi, the acting in that scene all round was truly great. I am excited to see how it ends, I really don't want a transcendence ending, where they become the light I want it to be more routed in science cause seemingly all the things they have done and experienced has been rooted in a scientific explanation. There is not a lot of time next ep, but I am hoping they will at least explain it a bit, what Becca saw, if Allie 1.0 created the stones. Allie did say she exists all time and space, but we shall see. I feel really bad for Clarke she has lost so much throughout the series. Madi is not fully dead but suffering from locked in syndrome. Oh, silly, naive, delusional DeLuca. You really thought you were at Derek's level? HA!
Still all these years later, and I'm as heartbroken about Derek's death as on day one. I even got a bit emotional during the flashbacks to that horrible, horrible episode. I've watched doctor's reactions on YouTube to Grey's pilot episode and I got a pang of sadness every time I heard "It's a beautiful night/day to save lives". I will forever miss him, even with all his faults and crappy things he did.
But the way Meredith went off on the arrogant, negligent idiot who cost Derek his life? So deeply satisfying (I'mma be watching that on repeat). Also, Amelia's admission of wanting to stab a scalpel into his brain? Unethical, but so understandable. I shared her glee during that "[he's dead and] I didn't kill him" bit.
Surprisingly, I don't blame Schimidt for almost costing Mer her license. He didn't rat her out out of malice or ill intent. Unlike Bailey, that petty, resentful, selfish witch. You still suck, Bailey and I don't see myself forgiving your nasty ass anytime soon. And as much as I dislike Schmidt I feel bad for him. Life is gonna suck for him at Grey-Sloan.
OK, this is a pilot and they already judged sororities and men in general.
The lesbian one checks all the preconceptions there are about lesbians (for example: they hate men). Well, at least thats my take on her character.
Who goes around telling everyone what consent is and that it can be revoked at any time.
And then using the phrase while advertising for pilates?
using one or the other would have been kind of cool.
Using both in the same scene is just desperate.
Besides the SJW-Stuff: The speech about winning prices for deciphering magic scientifically was way too much.
Also: "Baking-Powder works too"? It exists for quite some time now, if witches are powerful and intelligent women you should think someone would have thought of it already or at least it would have happened by accident...
Also: Way too extreme special effects.
The Original Charmed worked as a mirror for boys/men who watched it (Can't speak to what it did for girls...), while still being fun.
This Pilot felt more like being judged for things you haven't even done.
edit:
To make it clear: Consent can be revoked at any time. I just have a problem with people, who feel the need to tell it to everyone every chance they get and kill the mood for people who are clearly both consenting.
And I also hate it, when people assume that a man won't respect a no. The ones that don't are an absolute minority.
Scenes like this strengthen that preconception...
And I thought this show couldn't get any worse before this episode. This one is the straw...
You know all those great shows where you don't know a characters' true intentions because the writers have woven a complex web of motivations and character traits. Well this show has that, but without any discernible reason due to character or motivation.
You know all those great shows where favorite characters are put in precarious situations and the intensity comes from wondering how they'll escape, well this show has that except it happens off screen and in this case totally stupid stuff happens off-screen (again), because it is patently unjustifiable in the context of the story, an experienced ZA survivor gets bitten in the stomach of all places, and is now doomed.
You know all those great shows where you're rooting for the villain to get his comeuppance but he always just escapes because of ingenuity, smarts or just that bit of luck, well this show has that except the villain escapes because the heroes are dumbasses. Freakin' Negan escapes death again, when all Rick has to do is hit him hard with the bat, instead of that love-tap, or just jump up and shoot him through the window instead of running away.
You know all those great shows where the action is intense and yet still easy to follow because of amazing direction, well this show has that, except the exact opposite (hard to follow and no intensity because of convoluted story-telling).
You know all those great shows...yeah, I'm just going to watch those...instead.
I'm done with you TWD.
Oh deer...very, ver interesting episode. Richonne was amazing. And all those zombie killings, hell's yeah.
I had so many flashbacks: Rick's version of "hiding under the dumpster", the deer, the roof falling, the walker killings through the fence in the prison.
I love the bonding between Rick and Michonne and that Rick's fake death scene was perfect. Of course we're not worried about him dying, not in a random episode, but the scene felt so powerful. That "death" was for Michonne. Her emotions and she realizing that she's nothing without Rick helped to develop her character.
And Rick making good negotiations with the garbage people. "10. 5. 10. 6. 10. 9. 10. 9 and you keep the cat. 20 I keep the cat, we get you guns and we fight together. Say yes". Such a badass. I haven't figured out yet why they speaking so fucking weird: More guns, fight your fight, need cat back. What happens, do you need to speak weirdly to save effort? Does it take too much to make a whole sentence? Does speaking weirdly have any effect on your fighting skills?
I guess they spent all their CGI budget in Shiva so they made that deer with Paint. What a funding horrendous animal. I have no idea how those walkers dare to eat it. Deers are a bad omen in TWD.
And Rick talking about Glenn in the van broke my heart. What a heartbreaking scene: "He saved me. I couldn't save him". I'll never get over it. The feelings.
I'll be extremely surprised if by the end of this season Rosita is still alive. She's almost as suicidal as Andrea, but she hasn't slept with Negan yet. I guess that suicidal mission will end up with Sasha getting killed and Rosita bearing that burden again. I really loved the scene with Father Gabriel. Such a real character. "You can certainly blame me for the fact that you have a life, but after that what are you going to do with it?" Father Gabriel totally microphoned Rosita.
It'll be interesting to see Ricks's reaction to Oceanside. Btw, Judith is a godamn good therapist.
Great episode. Several plot lines mixed up with one another and with all the main characters involved. Oh my, and I thought Spencer had no guts...I've never been so embarrassed in my whole life. And what about Negan and his Masterchef audiction? He really can cook. Even though he's an asshole 100% of the time, he's hilarious. I love his sense of humour. I hate him, and I love him. I hate loving him and love hating him. I've never had a feeling as disgusting as this. "I brought him home, safe and sound, and I fed him spaghetti" has to be my favourite line this episode. So now it's spaghetti Sunday, I guess. I loved seeing him at the table like an upset housewife because he's just fed up with Rick being late and Olivia and Carl trying to hold up by looking into the distance. and that line "your people are making me lose my voice doing all this yelling", I bet it was improvised by JDM.
Jeffrey "Lean" Morgan is killing it as Negan. This episode had a serious lack of leaning, though. I love Eugene's development as a character. He's really growing on me. And so is Father Gabriel, who has raised from the most hated character to a lovely one. I loved the symbolism in his scene with Rosita, the way he left her and closed the door, protecting her inside while he fights outside. Negan was pretty scary when Rosita shot him. I guess that's the closest he's even been to really being dead. It was then when he showed his true self, and not that front.
But what I loved the most was the uplifting ending. After everything that has happened, that reunion brought me hope. I loved the shots of each one's faces, a nice contrast to the premiere when they were all lined up. From the emptiness at the beginning to the hope they have now. it was really awesome.
And who's that person with the boots? The boat dude? one of the women from Oceanside? that was one weird-ass note he left. Perhaps the food's poisoned?
And Maggie with the cap was really touching. Glenn will always be present.
