Love the recurring statement that this wasn’t just to find romantic love, it was also to find a bunch of new queer friends:heart:
Outstanding and heartbreaking. I'm going to miss you old friend.
I was ok with it all, then the last 3 minutes I was balling damn this show, haha
By the way,
If I may say,
Today and everyday,
Happy Immortimas day.
I don't get all the hate for this episode... It was silly, absurd, over-the-top...which is something Doom Patrol has embraced since the very beginning. The completely insane stuff in this show and "singing" is where people draw the line? I thought the episode was a blast. I agree with what someone else said, one's enough...but the one was silly and fun, just like everything else in this silly show.
Brenden Fraiser's jerk-off song? I mean...LOL....
This episode will probably be real hit or miss for people. For me it was a hit. The songs were maybe a bit overdone, but I liked most of them. Tempting the Patrol to stay in the 'music dimension' and being rid of their 'dooms' was an interesting underlying story.
An enjoyable, fast paced and very entertaining romp. It's not meant to be taken seriously, so don't. I find it oddly amusing that this series contains demonic/spiritual possessions, black magic, otherworldly beings etc etc, but most of the criticisms are about it not being "believable" because it depicts people of colour in positions of power, in 18th century England. Bigoted much?
I was expecting more but it was nothing special.
Damn what the fuck did the lower class do to you Cord Jefferson? Keep being the very thing that you mock: a white liberal.
Yes I just said that.
I was pleasantly surprised when this got FIVE oscar nominations but now I've actually seen it I can see why the academy ate this up...
There's always at least one best picture nom that pisses me off lol.
This film has a weird hatred for black people and is targeted entirely for middle-class white folks so they can join in at laughing at an entire demographic. I've thought about this and I genuinely don't think I'm missing the point because when the film is self-aware about it or specifically commenting on this matter it's then just a masturbatory exercise of Cord Jefferson trying to justify his literal racism (through terrible writing btw).
I liked the ending (+ final shot) but mostly because the whole movie can be summed up in those final twenty minutes or so. The rest is dragged out identity-politics nonsense that pretends to be satire.
Mean-spirited movies are the fucking worst. Almost as bad as people who 'don't see race'.
How do you shoot your film partly in Sedlec Ossuary and make it look like a cheap set?
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Fear Street: 1666’:
For the first 20 minutes of this final entry, I honestly wasn’t sure I’d be happy with the direction they were taking everything. I eventually realized how stupid I was.
I haven’t been this excited about a horror franchise in a very long time. Literally can’t remember when the last time was. So excited for more!
I truly didn’t see the entire twist coming. And it wasn’t just a twist for twist sake. It was earned. It was thought out. And everything came together beautifully.
Bonus Thought: Great cast! Great characters! Great music!
I love the twist and the worldbuilding of this trilogy. Fear Street: 1666 was a satisfying ending to a surprisingly entertaining and solid trilogy. Goode was evil :))
I know Cate Blanchett and Michelle Yeoh are deservedly the frontrunners for this year's Oscars.
However, Danielle Deadwyler should win because this was an earth-shattering performance. There is a point in the film where I thought the real Mamie Till-Mobley took over Danielle Deadwyler's body. Incredible work.
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Fear Street Part One: 1994’:
Lemme tell you… I loved it! It was nostalgic. It was an homage to so much that has come before (that intro had ‘Scream’ written all over it). But it also had a hefty dose of originality. Great characters you cared about. It took risks. It surprised you. And it was a LOT more mature than I expected it to be. I loved the books way back when, and this made me wanna read them again. Bravo.
I LOVED the LGBT twist in the beginning! Did NOT expect that person to be Sam. Solid execution.
It had a bit of a Hocus Pocus vibe to me, which made the character deaths and the paths into “Rated R” territory that much more effective. It was a weird and welcomed mix.
Bonus Thought: I legit can’t wait for the next one. Super invested.
Surprisingly good! This one has aged rather well.
Sobering, harrowing, sharp; How To Have Sex pulls back the curtain on the much glamourised coming-of-age drinking holidays that permiate teenage British drinking culture, and reveals the cold, isolating and downright depressing reality that comes after the loud music and copious amounts of alcohol. The death of childhood and innocence, the split in friend groups as life paths are chosen and become more defined, the rush to grow up and complete milestones by societal predefined times, the unspoken trauma of our first sexual encounters that are brushed off due to intoxication and expectation; it's all shown so realistically and relatably that it's shocking we all have similar experiences yet nothing seems to change or improve. A modern tragedy, and a very important one at that.
Brings absolutely nothing new to the werewolf genre and it never really shows much in the way of werewolves. Only a few seconds of action and the transformation scene was a let down. I wanted more werewolf action beyond it being solely symbolic.
What really shines here is the queer romance, the drama and the themes of self-discovery. Very moody and depressing in some parts. Interesting characters, character dynamics and performances. Their circumstances and the family drama goes hand in hand with the romance and it creates something I was rooting for. I did however wish Amandla Stenberg's character had more development. Trippy neon lights visuals, love the score and it feels cold with the weather, ice skating rink and atmosphere. Unsatisfying climax.
I watched this movie against my better judgement, with a rice grain of hope, and in a state of suspicious dread considering the norm for mainstream made queer films. I regret the near two hours of anxiety, ambivalence and anguish. In plainspeak - Fuck this heartbreaking shit.
Now I'm going to watch some mindless series and try to purge away the well of sorrow that burrowed itself into me.
Please consider this review a mental health warning if you're also prone to depression, this one stings.
The movie that Israel doesn't want you to see.
The oppressed before has now become the oppressor.
The events from this film is only 0.01% of what is truly happening in Palestine. From 1948 up to the present.
A must-watch film to understand the conflict.
Everyone deserves a friend like Spoon.
so im just supposed to go on with my life after this?????????
HAROLD, THEY'RE LESBIANS!
A movie that works with butterfly effect better than The Butterfly Effect and with less than 15% of budget.
You add that with a good action, a good story and you will have Run Lola Run.
Seriously a fantastic film. Some of the best acting, direction, writing, and cinematography you’ll see all year. Kerry Condon better win an Oscar for this.
Top notch spin-off! Animation quality looks very nice too
From the beginning, the show marks its own style with an intelligent and acid sense of humor. These small stories that are carried out by the main characters, with their own entity, build a vision of race and tradition through a new generation that has been raised with white popular culture, as the reference to Tarantino shows. But above all it's full of unforgettable characters (Uncle Brownie, Big or Spirit).
This show is so fucking good. The writing is spectacular. The actors are so genuine and adorable. This show will have you laughing as it kicks you in the feels. It’s so refreshing. Truly a must watch, shit ass.
I love that there are a lot of people who were hoping to see a bunch of queer people be killed in a slasher movie, only to spend 2 hours finding out that the real horror is homophobia and conversion therapy itself.
