At Eternity's Gate

Independent director and painter himself, Julian Schnabel, took a lot of creative risks with At Eternity’s Gate. I think in his own way, Schnabel’s artistic choices in this film are misunderstood, just as Vincent van Gogh was. People criticize the film without realizing that it is told exactly in the style Van Gogh would have experienced. It strays away from the normalities in Hollywood, and showcases its own original techniques in order to properly embody the world through Vincent van Gogh’s eyes.

Manifest: 4x20 Final Boarding

Despite a horrible, horrible season, the show concluded on a perfect note. The well deserved ending to the show.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Like a lot of people I’ve been skeptical about seeing the latest Marvel movies, but this, THIS, is cinema. See it on the biggest screen you can. The animation is so incredibly beautiful and unique, and the use of different universes and characters is so creative! Hardly ever do I give a movie a 10/10, but this is well deserving of a perfect score. Cannot wait for the next part!

Nice vfx and landscapes, but the plot is pointless. Nothing important happens, and no reasons or explanations are given afterwards. Events occur just because they do, not because they matter.

(500) Days of Summer

Not your average rom-com. A very unique style of storytelling, and the soundtrack is an amazing addition. A rollercoaster of emotions of happiness, sadness, anger, but ultimately the realization of reality. That last scene put such a big smile on my face, perfectly concluding the struggle of how relationships go in the real world.

Triangle of Sadness

This film exceeded my expectations exponentially. I went into it blind and didn’t really know what to expect. The beginning wasn’t really my cup of tea, but once the story started I got into it. The acting was good and the dialogue was enough to keep me entertained. “Triangle of Sadness” is funny but also very dramatic at times. Many will criticize the end because of the cliffhanger, but I think that there is a deeper meaning of “returning to society & back to the rich life” but the audience gets to choose what happens.

In Bruges

Perfect mix of drama, comedy, action, and emotion with exceptional performances from Colin Farrell & Brendan Gleeson.

See How They Run

Simple, fun, and entertaining. Nothing to special but I liked the original ending and the tie-in from the beginning of the movie. One of the better whodunits of recent times.

2001: A Space Odyssey

A mind blowing masterpiece that was way ahead of its time. Watch it when you are old enough to understand and appreciate the art of it, even if it seems slow. The underlying themes of life and evolution play out over the movie, and the use of dramatic music added with the stunning visuals make the movie of a lifetime.

Underrated masterpiece with a beautiful soundtrack and stunning cinematography.

Yes the pacing is off. Yes Ana de Armas’ accent is a bit off. Yes the movie is long. Does this make it terrible? No. Coming from a perspective of not knowing much of anything about Marilyn Monroe, I found this film decent. I’m not sure where the line divides fact and fiction, but I can see why people love it or hate it. It has a very artistic style that can be hard to follow, but give it a try despite the reviews.

The Bourne Ultimatum

These films could have way more potential if the camera work wasn’t done by 4 year old on a caffeine rush.

I think a lot of people are missing the point which is the relationship between man and creature. Creatures should not be tamed to act for or with humans (whether that be horses, chimps, or the alien). The movie was not perfect in any means, but I think the parallel with Gordy was good.

Jurassic World Dominion

Such a disappointing conclusion to a legendary saga.

Its way longer than it needs to be and it feel like 2 different movies are playing at once. The first hour is nonsensical boring action with characters that are introduced then soon abandoned who serve no purpose to the movie. The actual classic Jurassic Park story doesn’t come into play until the last 45 minutes (out of 2.5 hrs). The send off didn’t have much emotion, except for a nice looking final shot.

Shimmer Lake

Interesting idea that wasn’t quite executed correctly. In the end everything made sense and had an interesting twist, but it was too sudden trying to remember the event that happened in the end (which is the beginning) given that this movie has reverse chronology.

I don't understand why this film gets so much hate. It is conceptually brilliant and challenging, and the effects were well done.

10 Cloverfield Lane

The majority of the movie was exciting, intense, and mysterious. The ending was slightly cheesy and cliche, but overall, a worthwhile watch.

Really promising idea, then the ending is just so incredibly dumb, and strays from the storyline.
