I enjoyed this a certain amount. For such a long film though the story could have been better with development rather than sudden jumps in character interaction.
Also I now want more about the witchy woman. Best thing in it
This was not a good film but it was bad in a vaguely entertaining fashion.
Hammy and full of cliche
I think this is my favourite of the Coens' films..it's just great, that 'would that it were so simple scene ' is just hilarious
What a pointless pointless film, and so pleased with it's supposed cleverness. Boring and pointless.
I liked the look and atmosphere of this film, but the story/character wasn't developed enough. In the end felt as though it needed something more
It's amazing how well this holds up. Although still the danger that some viewers may stay impressed with the coolness of Tyler Durden and not really believe that he is NOT the hero
Well worth a watch, and the end doesn't pull any punches
So, I didn't really find the humour too funny in this film, I mean motherfuckers fucking shit up isn't that funny. But I guess for the time it was set it had the shock humour. But I did enjoy the film, and actually found it quite sweet in the end.
Omg that film was just so so poor. I was fighting to keep my eyes open during it. I don't think I've ever been so uninvolved in a film. And I've just seen Rambo last blood so it isn't like it was in comparison with a good film.
Terrible piss.
Just a bad bad film
One of my favourite films of all time, just fun with vampires.
This film is very much a product of its time. It has important things to say, but sometimes it just comes out and says them instead of making them part of the story. A bit too on the nose at times.
Ah look, it is very entertaining and as full of action and madness as you'd expect. I could have done with a little more character every now and then, but it did the job.
Car go fast. Nnnnwwwwwoooommmmm. And girls wear short short dresses. http://www.susanhatedliterature.net/2006/07/the-fast-and-the-furious-tokyo-drift/
A long time ago I read Rosemary Sutcliff’s The Eagle of the Ninth, the book this film is based on. It was a very long time ago, I’m pretty sure I checked it out from the children’s library way back in the day. But, here’s the thing, I remember it. And I actually remember details from it. Now my memory is bad, really bad for details like that. But I sometimes remember things that I liked. I certainly forget the unliked rubbish almost as soon as I’ve finished it, books and films. So I can deduce that the book was good.
I also remember really enjoying it.
I do remember hearing about this film when it came out in 2011, but the buzz was not good and I never got around to looking for it. But I spotted it on Netflix and thought it sounded like a decent enough Sunday evening film.
And you know what? It was.
Tatum plays the role of a Roman centurion whose father disappeared along with a legion and an Eagle years ago. He has risen in the ranks and requested a place in Britain so that he could regain his family’s honour. Bell plays the role of his slave, Esca, who becomes his guide north of Hadrian’s Wall.
I think that there are some viewer who may object to Marcus Aquila’s American accent, but he was Roman, he didn’t speak with an English accent either. So that didn’t bother me at all. I actually really enjoyed this film, it is low key in many ways, but has more than enough action and plot to keep you interested.
I do remember the book as being more about friendship and trust and betrayal, than about swashbuckling. The film does have aspects of that, but of course the book had that in more depth.
I also loved the look of the film, from the wilds north of the wall to the fantastic look of the Seal People, it all looks great.
All in all, a pretty good Sunday afternoon film.
Who knows what this is all about. I mean, I know the plot (such as it is) but really? what is this even!
What is the point in this film... I just don't get it.
the first half of this film almost madee turn it off, but it pulled it slightly together in the end. it showed heart, not enough to make up for the bad writing and lack of characterisation in the first half. but enough to save it from being a god awful film
it's amazing to read the comments about these 'unlikeable characters' as I didn't think anyone was unlikeable. I mean they all had flaws and acted badly, but isn't that part of living?
I really loved the way it asked so many questions, and the fact that it says right up there it doesn't matter what the truth is, just what people believe. I'm not sure I agree entirely with that, in some cases the truth is a fact, but it works for this film
urgh. so pedestrian and predictable.
the role of Michelle could have been played by a lamp for all that Basinger had to do
not sure why this one got so panned on relief. it was pretty much what you'd expect from the premise. not fantastic, but enjoyable enough tosh
I enjoyed this. it didn't work overall, some was a bit messy but it also had some very emotional scenes that really hit. overall a solid bit of entertainment
one of my all time favourite films. I've researched it many times, slow and measured. a simple story well told and with great chemistry between Duvall and Costner.
I don't know if this is any way accurate but as a film it is very powerful. it doesn't shy away from the horrendous acts committed but yet has a strangely sympathetic approach.
very well acted and well worth a watch, but not an easy viewing
Well that was just terrible. Terrible and God awful.
This starts out somewhat interesting, but then is seems to warp into two different films that just don't gel at all. Scenes are held for far too long in an attempt to be artistic maybe? I'm not really sure why.
The central premise is also a bit hmmmm, i mean if that's what you wanna explore then okay, but do we always have to center every film around American protagonists and make them be the good guys when obviously they are not.
Maybe of the film explored more of the can horrific deeds ever be forgiven, and the actual impact of those acts it would have had more meaning. As it is it's all just a bit what was the point.
This is a terrible film. Just terrible.
Interesting, plenty of dark humour, and we'll told.
Well that wasn't scary at all.
Enjoyed this one a lot more than i thought i might. Good solid entertainment, will certainly watch the next one
