I'm only on the fourth episode so I'm still up in the air on this TexMex Motors. While I love almost every car show that's out there, I have my limits and so far, this one is a bit more irritating than it is "fun". For one thing, I'm not even sure if this "TexMex Motors" is a real thing or just a Netflix show conjured up to compete with the better, more realistic shows. The first thing that hit me - only minutes into the pilot episode - was how they managed to get a crew that was so oddly similar to the crew of Rust to Riches .... complete with the bumbling buffoon and the cleavage-showing "I know I'm a girl but I know more about overhauling an engine than any guy..." chick. The goofy outsider sales guy who can't get his hands dirty with anything but knows tons of people often sounds during the show as if he's reading directly from the subtitles (yes, I have them turned on), or maybe cue cards; it's just very mechanical, stiff, and not at all "flowing" like you would expect from someone who really knew their custom vehicles and was trying to pitch it successfully. Yada yada yada…I could keep going, but essentially it's just wayyyyyy too similar to the Rust to Riches show (and since that's one of my favorites, maybe that's why TexMex Motors bugs me so much.) I'll reserve my final judgement on this show but right now, although I'm enjoying the vehicle restoration, the show itself is way too over-the-top and just downright cheesy to really be enjoyable. If they dialed it back some - and if this TexMex Motors is an actual thing - this might be more interesting. Right now, I'm just glad there's only one season; not sure I would sit through any more.
