Very atmospheric. Overly atmospheric. So atmospheric you could choke a giraffe with all the bloody atmosphere. Sadly, atmosphere is the only thing this film has, and that's barely enough to carry it for 30 minutes, let alone the well over two hours this film subjects us to.
Like a cool car driving the speed limit, it doesn't push any barriers but looks good and performs well and that's OK.
A separated couple look for their missing son in this well shot thriller. It stays in its lane but the cinematography is gorgeous and James McAvoy is one of the most underrated actors working today so it doesn't go very far but at least it gets you there in style.
(PS It's a remake of the 2017 French film Mon Garçon, which I also gave a 7.)

I didn't read the book, but i doubt it that the book is a mess, as this movie was.
The script is really confusing, making the story confusing aswell. The actors...ohh my god. What were they thinking?
The movie is a mess, with actors making 'question mark' faces all the time.
Ps: Worst leading lady EVER. Even worst than Kirsten Stewart.
Wow. What a fantastically overlooked piece of cinema. It had me on the edge for about 3/4 of the movie. Way way better than the shallows including the acting. This was short of Jaws but better than most other shark films.
Just when you think you know what is going on, there goes the rug....
